Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

[Ricardo has no idea how this conversation came to be. He thinks he was just asking what sort of festivities were there and commenting on the architecture around the city because for it being a completely different world they're definitely Greco-Roman and that's interesting. And it's nice, it's quite pretty to see them in the ocean like that.

So he casually comments on the architecture of the Woods Sector and his appreciation for how the architecture is melded into the nature of the area and how his friend will appreciate that a lot too. And compliment it a lot. It's a nice change from the other industrialized sectors as well as the urban city he grew up in.]

[Pro-nature? No. Dorian hesitates to turn a child towards the path of decadence because, even with his view on boundaries and comforts, he knows that some things really should just not be done. So.]

The contrast has its appeal, I suppose. Did you not have much chance to visit the country, back home?
passively: (unemotionally (take the flower).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-08-28 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I'm afraid not. I grew up on the outskirts of Chicago and my parents and grandfather never had the time off to go on vacations. [Or the interest.]

I believe the countryside would have a much different feel from the city with its tall buildings and dirty air. I think it would be nice to live there.

Ah, of course. [He wonders if it's the Chicago of wood or the one made of metal. Either way—] The countryside does have its beauty, an an abundance of space for solitude. It is, I admit, why I've never grown to care for it.
passively: (calmly (drink some tea).)

There's plenty of opportunities for socializing, I'm sure, but each person definitely has his own preference. Are you from the city as well, then, sir?
depicted: (I would go out tonight)

I spend most of my time in London these days, but there was a time when I used to go down to the country at least once a year. [The reference to the social seasons of the kingdom's aristocrats is usually lost on contemporary audiences where such things have all but vanished, and Dorian waves it away.] But a visit to see the grass on the other side is always worthwhile—if only to see what grass is in person.
passively: (boredly (look away).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-08-31 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a vacation.

It's true. You don't get to see a whole lot of grass unless you go to the countryside...

[He pauses. He's not particularly social, but he'll have to be if he wants to gather information about here. He can't rely on Sham anymore.] Are all the sectors of the city like the Woods, or would I be right to assume that each sector follows a theme close to its name?

[Well it's a better topic change than trying not to insult nature too badly because he doesn't want to influence a ten year old.] More or less. Water has canals, metal is industrial—fire has a few flame lanterns, very pretty, and Earth is more by way of statues.
passively: (unconcernedly (talk about umbrellas).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-09-02 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rude. He's twelve.]

Flame lanterns.. I see.

Which one do you reside at, if you don't mind me asking?

And fountains. It's really quite pretty. [He likes the shiny.]

I'm in Fire Sector, as it happens.

[Ricardo is glad that he hasn't run into Graham Specter yet and that it means he wouldn't. At least not for now because the man likely isn't here. God knows what would happen to those pretty fountains if that man caught sight of them. He'd want to take them apart.]

I can imagine that they would be.

... Well, thank you, sir...

I'm sorry, I never introduced myself. My name is Ricardo Russo.

Dorian Gray. [This child is odd, though. There's definitely something not-childish about him, and it . . . surprises Dorian. It catches him off-guard.] I hope you enjoy the aesthetics of the city. There is more wilderness beyond its outskirts, but it isn't exactly the scenic English countryside.
passively: (listlessly (get hugged with rail).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-09-09 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gives a short, not exactly hearty but definitely not unpolite laugh.]

That's something I'd like to see one day, too. It'll all be different for me. Are there any places you'd recommend I go to?
depicted: (I've a hunger for the deviant)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-09-10 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
For nature, I've done very little exploring. Not my circuit, as I said. [He tries to think of places he would go to that he also wouldn't feel like a monster to recommend to a kid.] There is an odd little playground in the Fire Sector, though, where the flames come together with the natural trees to give the impression of a certain invulnerability.
passively: (indifferently (read a book).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-09-12 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Aah, I suppose I should've expected that sort of suggestion.

[sigh]

It's all right. How about libraries or book stores? I'd like to do some reading in my free time.

[personal profile] depicted 2013-09-14 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Welp.]

There are a number, though the content is... fairly consistently poetry, and often in the kedan language. I could make a list of a few that have texts in—English?
passively: (listlessly (get hugged with rail).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-09-15 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I could probably use some of those to familiarize myself with the language here, but yes. [he nods.]

I can read English the best.
depicted: (you got that medicine I need)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-09-17 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
It is a difficult language to learn. But to start, you may try Daowei's shop in the Fire Sector. [Directions go here.] They have a reasonable selection of texts in both language.
passively: (uninterestly (get carried again).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-09-20 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Daowei's shop. [He hums, thoughtfully, repeating the directions in his head.]

That sounds useful. It'll definitely be somewhere I drop by within the next few days.

... Now, about this festival. What, exactly, is it for?
depicted: (cigarettes and chocolate milk)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-09-21 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't the faintest idea. Harvests, maybe?
passively: (indifferently (read a book).)

[personal profile] passively 2013-09-23 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I suppose the season is autumn. Do people actually farm around here?
