Characters: The Bookends (
anything_it_takes &
duelkatana)
Date: Late Sinbrilee, apx. 9/1-9/2
Location: Shoreline
Situation: Leo found a shiny that can best be appreciated by his double.
Warnings/Rating: Possible runaway egos?
Leo can't stop looking at it. The slim katana is perfectly-shaped, sporting an elegant curve from pommel to tip, handle laced with black over shimmering ray-skin. But it's the guard, the tsuba, that proclaims this weapon's identity. Simple, black, two open ovals pressed together around the flawless blade. Miyamoto designed that part himself. Some legends have it that he even forged the piece...
The weapon is old to the point of ancient; it's taken some oiling to repair the corrosion that was starting in at the collar, but the blade is okay now. Leo wonders if it was the decay that had prompted the ghost to lead him to this treasure, to save it from the ravages of time. And also, maybe... Because he deserves it.
After all, Leo is damn good and he knows it. He's only known a scant handful of people who could best him at his specialty, one of whom he's meeting now for one of their regular kenjutsu practice sessions. By mutual unspoken consent, they've chosen a
familiar spot by the shoreline, with enough loose sand to soften the ground, and enough crumbling outcroppings of compressed gravel to provide the basis for some terrain work.
Leo's kept this discovery close to his carapace so far, but now that it's in fighting condition he's absolutely got to share, not to mention going on a test drive. And it was never any contest as to who his primary candidate for both would be. Taking one last private look, the slides the katana back into its sheath, tucks it into the space between his home-made twin katana and listens to the ocean-muffled night for Leonardo's approach.
