OOC INFORMATIONCITY OF KEELIAIINSIDE THE BOTTLETHE WORLD EATER

For nearly two days the brave quest takers have been sequestered at the sullied Temple and its grounds, the thick jungle and swamp preventing them from leaving. There are faint tremors that run through the ground and in the middle of the third night, the ground gives a great heave, jostling everyone from their rested states. In one of the Temple rooms, a sinkhole has appeared to reveal not spongy ground beneath, but a dark tunnel leading down into the earth. It doesn't take much to widen the entrance and follow the gentle downward slope that leads out to the north, and a walk of about two hours (which surely would feel like longer to those who don't enjoy being trapped in low, dank places) leads them under the swamp itself. By the time the tunnel slopes upward, the muddy ground has turned hard and packed with small chips of rock and sand; the terrain above is changing and as they emerge upward through a fissure in the ground...

OOC NOTE: The Aftermath comment will be unfrozen and its direction posted on February 23rd, based on the outcome of the other threads.

When Sabriel had stumbled, exhausted from the battlefield, trying to find a place to sleep for an hour or so to regain her strength. What she hadn't expected to find was a pool full of fresh water- or two talking dogs, who let her pass after glancing at the pendant she'd taken from the pool and spoke to her of a way to cleanse the corruption. To Sabriel, whose general distaste for bloodshed had only been heightened by the vision of the monster she might have become, the idea of cleansing the corruption without the death of the dragon seemed ideal. Thus, after resting as much as she dared, she filled one of the silver pitchers and set out.

Finding her way back to the fighting was not hard, but Sabriel stopped every so often- just long enough leave behind a charter light on the ground to mark her path.

When she finally reached the dragon, she threw the water on the first pustule she could reach- and gasped at what she saw underneath the corruption.

Turning back the way she came, she grabbed the wrist of the first person she could find.

"Come with me- I think there's another way to do this!"

"Miss Sabriel?"

It wouldn't be surprising if she did not recognize him at first-- Armin was covered head-to-toe in muck and mud; even his blonde hair looked dingy and brown from the dirt. But he began to approach her as he noticed her carrying an odd jug, looking at an unusually colorful and clean patch of ground in front of her.

What was that? As soon as he realized that the ground they walked on was one giant, living being, he was doing his best to make sure it died. Those monsters that erupted from the boils he cut open were attacking them, after all. Nothing good could possibly come from letting it live... Right?

"What's going on? What are you doing?"

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-18 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Armin!" Sabriel recognized the voice at least, "Come with me- I think there's another way to cleanse the corruption without killing the dragon!"

Without a warning, Sabriel grabbed his wrist, dragging him in the direction she'd come, trying to explain further as she went.

"I think there's still some traces of what this place was, before it was corrupted- there's a pool some distance from here, with water that can cleanse whatever's wrong with this place!"
strategisch: (worst bandage job ever Reiner)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-18 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait-- you want to save the dragon?" Armin voices skeptically, although he does not protest as she takes his wrist and drags him where-ever she will. He trusts her enough to know she's not leading him headlong into danger, "is that a good idea? Isn't it trying to kill us all?"
bindsthedead: (art-explaining)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-18 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it's in its right mind," Sabriel explained, "It's just being affected by the corruption- like the rest of this realm- and if it's a part of it- do we know what consequences there will be to killing it?"
strategisch: (fashionable headgear)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-18 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can see that could be possible," he thinks out loud, "Although it still seems rather dangerous. If we cure it, and it grows stronger, we would have even less of a chance to kill it before it causes even more havoc."

Armin grows quiet for a moment to sort of his thoughts, then speaks up again.

"Are you willing to take responsibility for what might happen?"
bindsthedead: (art-pensive)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-18 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I am,," Sabriel said, "Besides, I think it's the corruption that's making it so hostile." At least, she hoped it was.
strategisch: (why I fight)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-18 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Alright. Then I'll help you."

Armin's trust does not come lightly, but he decides to put it in Sabriel. She's proven her wise nature to him before.

"So I'm guessing we have to collect water from this special pool you found, and pour it on the boils to clean the dragon?"
bindsthedead: (art-cause for concern)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-19 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. It also has the added advantage of not creating those monsters whenever one of the boils is lanced," Which also made it ideal for anyone who didn't have combat training- not that any of them belonged here. Sabriel gestured as she walked, pointing out the lights she'd left on the ground. They weren't closely spaced, but if you looked around you could see the trail they made, leading towards the fountain.
strategisch: (fuck they're learning)

we do not wash our pits in the pool of sacred tears :|

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-19 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Then it's a job anyone could do," he adds, catching on to her line of thought, following the magic marks on the ground. Soon enough they came to the copse where the water was held-- The Fu dogs size him up, and then step aside, recognizing the coin from the fountain that he had traded for a juulan he was keeping in his pocket.

The spring is the one clean thing he had seen in days, and while he's very tempted to wash his hands and face in it, he feels that it would be disrespectful somehow.

"Must we use the jugs, or can we work out some other way of moving the water?"

They'd need a lot of people working together to make this an efficient process. Alone, it could take days to clean the corruption.
bindsthedead: (Art-Notice; Almost a smile)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-19 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"If they can get the water onto the boils. The dragon isn't holding still- and I don't think it's painless for it," Sabriel nodded towards the dogs.

"According to them, the jugs are the only way to preserve the water's cleansing properties long enough to get it to the dragon," With that, Sabriel dipped her jug into the water, filling it as much as she dared. "Come on- we don't have an unlimited amount of time."

He'd started out fighting the dragon, but after being knocked to the ground for the third time, Tony was getting frustrated. He drew back, pausing before his next rush, and came to a conclusion that stopped it completely.

"You know, I don't think this is working."

And that was what pulled him away from the fight. There had to be some other way, some resource they were lacking, because as far as he could tell, the giant monster wasn't all that impressed by their efforts. Or maybe that's just what dragons with the title "World Eater" did when they got a papercut. Either way, he was taking a better look around. Maybe, like the whole hero attempt, they hadn't been the first ones to do this. He moves back, away from the battle, over the open plains. Why did that area seem better off?
cmdreffingshepard: (what's that you say?)

Using her biotics for extended periods of time always left her exhausted. And this thing clearly wasn't going down just yet. Frankly, Shepard was getting to a point where she was running on fumes, and more than willing to entertain other ideas about how to fix this.

She needed calories, and rest, and this needed to be finished, ASAP.

"Agreed," she muttered to Tony as she crouched down to catch her breath. "Got any suggestions?"
definingfuture: (T - I'm still awake.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-03-01 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Stop, drop, and roll?" Tony's response is the very first thought that his mind comes up with, and he immediately shakes that off. It's replaced by something else. A more honest opinion. "Not really. I was hoping there'd be a clue around here."

He knows he's supposed to be the one with all of the plans, but people seriously seem to overestimate him sometimes. Then again, maybe there is an idea forming. He hasn't quite got it yet, but-

"You think it's weird how we can get further away from the corruption? I mean, it's spread out, but it seems like it's clearer this direction."

Dodging white-hot corruption goo and angry dragons hadn't been going any better for Jaime than it had for Tony; it's hardly any wonder that he's got the same idea, as badly as he feels about leaving the others to face it all more directly.

But it doesn't make sense, he tells himself. The logic's a small comfort, but a comfort nonetheless. If we could've beat this dragon normally, wouldn't we have managed it already with all of these people? And he's exhausted, confused, not doing a hell of a lot to help, in the end: there's got to be some answer that they've overlooked, and like hell he's going back unless he's found it.

Which is when he flies a little too close to Iron Man in his inattentive state.

"Sorry!" he calls out, slowing to a hover, "I'm guessing you're trying for a Plan B too?"
definingfuture: (T - So. Trolls.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-03-01 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Everything has a key. A certain pattern or core value that could be found and solved. That was Tony's logic. He drew back because he was convinced that they just weren't approaching the problem from the right angle. And he couldn't think clearly through all of the chaos and fighting and whatever that slime was that kept flying out at them. Whatever it was, his sensors were telling him it was bad news.

The approaching figure snaps him out of his thoughts. It's a good thing, too--they had probably been heading toward a collision. At least Jaime had the sense to alert him.

"We're not getting anywhere like this. We can keep pounding on him all we want, but it's just making him angrier. And we're only helping it spread that substance it's using."

That is his assessment. Maybe not entirely helpful, but he's tired of getting no results from fighting.

"We need a better idea. Let's pull back for now. See what we're missing."

Jaime can only nod in agreement. The cracks and the spots charred to black on his armor do all the speaking and all the reasoning for him: brute force alone almost never cuts it, and it especially isn't doing so here.

"I can't get a reading on it," he calls back, worried, "but whatever that stuff is isn't anything good. It's really not helpful at best and worsening whatever's happening at worst."

With one last glance back in the direction of the dragon, he turns his eyes forward.

"Yeah. Uh, and you are..." The Red Robot? The Metallic Marvel?
definingfuture: (IM - And I shall call it This Land.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-03-14 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I think the oozing pustule look kind of gave the 'not good' part away," Tony remarks. It's almost casual, even if the speakers of the armor make his voice a little flatter. When bad becomes worse, Tony is still making jokes. He moves toward the blue armored figure that happens to be his new unfortunate companion.

"There's some tragic irony in you having to ask me my name," he says. "You can call me Iron Man, though. And I call you what? Bug Eyes? Nice outfit, by the way. I like it."

He could make more effort not to sound facetious, but really everything Tony says comes off absently while he looks around for some sign of energy nearby. His sensors are reading a lot of things, but none of them seem particularly helpful for their cause. Still, maybe it's what he's not reading that should be important.

Always the type to cut the Gordian Knot for good or for ill, and knowing he's not really a damage output guy anyway, Kurt went ahead and skipped the actual combat in search of a better option. If he hadn't found anything he'd have eventually returned to run interference and possibly do evacuations, but the pool was a much better idea. And having Fu dogs let him walk by because he had a pebble in his pocket and give him the instructions was just about the coolest thing ever. He'd always thought those things were great, even when they were just plaster statues outside old fashioned Chinese restaurants as far as he knew.

It wasn't hard to keep track of where the fight with the continent-sized dragon was going on. He went ahead and teleported back in a few jumps and hopped right onto the dragon's back to test out his find. Awesome.

Well, that worked. He'd better get at least a few passengers in on this. "Anybody want a ride to where you get the I-don't-wanna-fight-something-the-size-of-Iceland-that's-probably-mind-controlled-anyway juice?" Kurt had been attacked by psychically manipulated gods, space whales, and super-powered cowboys. He just kind of assumed at this point.

[Passing the mountain, Korra continues on through Kithika and is keeping pace with Mako. Ever since they got through the temple, past that memory, the change in him is plain as day. Seeing him like this is a first and she’s not sure how to handle it.

He’s always been her pillar of support. And her memories of a world where he died is in the back of her mind, trying to infect her thoughts.]

Come on, let’s get some water. [The pool off in the distance catches her eye and she waves for him to follow, but she stops a bit short to gauge the Fu dogs that are guarding it.] Spirits?

[It’s only her only guess since they aren’t malicious looking.]

Yeah. [he barely answers, barely glances at her. Right then, all he wants to be is out of that bottle, and back in Republic City, not even in Keeliai. He just wanted to go home where there wasn't anything that could bring up the past in such a vivid way.

He'd practically shrugged into his Dad's scarf. It's when she slows down and asks the question that he looks up, staring at the dogs blocking the way to the water.

Slowly, gears started to turn.

They were guarding it. So, clearly it was important.]

I don't know. Not anymore than anything else here.

[After watching him, Korra let out a silent exhale and walks up to them. If she’s going to get them to share some of that water, then asking is the simplest route there. Something her mirrorverse self probably wouldn’t even think to try.]

I’m Avatar Korra. [Putting her hand in her fist, she bows respectfully.] May use your water?

[Expecting something to go wrong, like it has most of the way, Korra’s surprise is visible when they let her pass. Taking a few steps without being attacked, she waves Mako to follow.]

She used to help water the garden when she was little, but it was nothing like this.

"Try getting in close to a spot so we can splash it on?" Cora isn't really sure how aware this dragon is, will it notice them even if people are fighting on the other boils?
