OOC INFORMATIONCITY OF KEELIAIINSIDE THE BOTTLETHE WORLD EATER

For nearly two days the brave quest takers have been sequestered at the sullied Temple and its grounds, the thick jungle and swamp preventing them from leaving. There are faint tremors that run through the ground and in the middle of the third night, the ground gives a great heave, jostling everyone from their rested states. In one of the Temple rooms, a sinkhole has appeared to reveal not spongy ground beneath, but a dark tunnel leading down into the earth. It doesn't take much to widen the entrance and follow the gentle downward slope that leads out to the north, and a walk of about two hours (which surely would feel like longer to those who don't enjoy being trapped in low, dank places) leads them under the swamp itself. By the time the tunnel slopes upward, the muddy ground has turned hard and packed with small chips of rock and sand; the terrain above is changing and as they emerge upward through a fissure in the ground...

OOC NOTE: The Aftermath comment will be unfrozen and its direction posted on February 23rd, based on the outcome of the other threads.

When Sabriel had stumbled, exhausted from the battlefield, trying to find a place to sleep for an hour or so to regain her strength. What she hadn't expected to find was a pool full of fresh water- or two talking dogs, who let her pass after glancing at the pendant she'd taken from the pool and spoke to her of a way to cleanse the corruption. To Sabriel, whose general distaste for bloodshed had only been heightened by the vision of the monster she might have become, the idea of cleansing the corruption without the death of the dragon seemed ideal. Thus, after resting as much as she dared, she filled one of the silver pitchers and set out.

Finding her way back to the fighting was not hard, but Sabriel stopped every so often- just long enough leave behind a charter light on the ground to mark her path.

When she finally reached the dragon, she threw the water on the first pustule she could reach- and gasped at what she saw underneath the corruption.

Turning back the way she came, she grabbed the wrist of the first person she could find.

"Come with me- I think there's another way to do this!"

"Miss Sabriel?"

It wouldn't be surprising if she did not recognize him at first-- Armin was covered head-to-toe in muck and mud; even his blonde hair looked dingy and brown from the dirt. But he began to approach her as he noticed her carrying an odd jug, looking at an unusually colorful and clean patch of ground in front of her.

What was that? As soon as he realized that the ground they walked on was one giant, living being, he was doing his best to make sure it died. Those monsters that erupted from the boils he cut open were attacking them, after all. Nothing good could possibly come from letting it live... Right?

"What's going on? What are you doing?"

"Armin!" Sabriel recognized the voice at least, "Come with me- I think there's another way to cleanse the corruption without killing the dragon!"

Without a warning, Sabriel grabbed his wrist, dragging him in the direction she'd come, trying to explain further as she went.

"I think there's still some traces of what this place was, before it was corrupted- there's a pool some distance from here, with water that can cleanse whatever's wrong with this place!"

"Wait-- you want to save the dragon?" Armin voices skeptically, although he does not protest as she takes his wrist and drags him where-ever she will. He trusts her enough to know she's not leading him headlong into danger, "is that a good idea? Isn't it trying to kill us all?"
bindsthedead: (art-explaining)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-18 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it's in its right mind," Sabriel explained, "It's just being affected by the corruption- like the rest of this realm- and if it's a part of it- do we know what consequences there will be to killing it?"
strategisch: (fashionable headgear)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-18 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can see that could be possible," he thinks out loud, "Although it still seems rather dangerous. If we cure it, and it grows stronger, we would have even less of a chance to kill it before it causes even more havoc."

Armin grows quiet for a moment to sort of his thoughts, then speaks up again.

"Are you willing to take responsibility for what might happen?"
bindsthedead: (art-pensive)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-18 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I am,," Sabriel said, "Besides, I think it's the corruption that's making it so hostile." At least, she hoped it was.
strategisch: (why I fight)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-18 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Alright. Then I'll help you."

Armin's trust does not come lightly, but he decides to put it in Sabriel. She's proven her wise nature to him before.

"So I'm guessing we have to collect water from this special pool you found, and pour it on the boils to clean the dragon?"
bindsthedead: (art-cause for concern)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-19 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. It also has the added advantage of not creating those monsters whenever one of the boils is lanced," Which also made it ideal for anyone who didn't have combat training- not that any of them belonged here. Sabriel gestured as she walked, pointing out the lights she'd left on the ground. They weren't closely spaced, but if you looked around you could see the trail they made, leading towards the fountain.
strategisch: (fuck they're learning)

"Then it's a job anyone could do," he adds, catching on to her line of thought, following the magic marks on the ground. Soon enough they came to the copse where the water was held-- The Fu dogs size him up, and then step aside, recognizing the coin from the fountain that he had traded for a juulan he was keeping in his pocket.

The spring is the one clean thing he had seen in days, and while he's very tempted to wash his hands and face in it, he feels that it would be disrespectful somehow.

"Must we use the jugs, or can we work out some other way of moving the water?"

They'd need a lot of people working together to make this an efficient process. Alone, it could take days to clean the corruption.

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-19 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"If they can get the water onto the boils. The dragon isn't holding still- and I don't think it's painless for it," Sabriel nodded towards the dogs.

"According to them, the jugs are the only way to preserve the water's cleansing properties long enough to get it to the dragon," With that, Sabriel dipped her jug into the water, filling it as much as she dared. "Come on- we don't have an unlimited amount of time."
strategisch: (maximum cosplay)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-19 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Armin follows suit, and tags after her in a hurried jog.

"Should we try and get the word out to others?" He asks between breaths, pausing momentarily to pull his foot out of a sink of mud, "This can't be a job for just two people. Do you know any sort of... I don't know, communication magic?"
bindsthedead: (art-cause for concern)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2014-02-19 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
"We need to tell as many people as we can- but it will have to be by speaking to them. I don't know any spells for that sort of thing yet beyond making someone's voice much louder."
strategisch: (we must become monsters)

[personal profile] strategisch 2014-02-19 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I see," that was a shame. Armin ruefully looks at his 3DMG, useless in this environment. If he has the right sort of elevation, he could move quickly and track down people with ease... What a waste.

The first pustule he gets a chance to use the water on he stops to examine more closely. Just as it had with Sabriel, the blackness melts away to reveal a shimmering, colorful skin covered in what looks like feathers. It's warm and wriggling to the touch.

"How massive is this dragon?" he murmurs mostly to himself. It easily dwarfs a Colossal Titan; the sheer size of it baffles Armin.

"Beyond my comprehension," Sabriel muttered as the feathers were covered by the same greyness that covered the rest of the dragon's body, though the pustule didn't reappear.

"Hurry- we'll need to cure as many of those boils as we can, as quickly as possible."
strategisch: (this is my calculating face)

"Each time we go back-- could you keep making those glowing marks on the ground? Surely more people will notice them and follow them back to the spring."
