Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

Korra, you're not being a wallflower, are you? Well, wallflowers find each other, and here comes a dedicated one (family-only, post-world-saving celebratory parties excluded). Lurking on the edges of this ghost festival, he's really quite tempted to ninja some of those snacks, even though the tables really are hubs of activity…

And there sits Korra, in an absolutely stunning dress. Somehow, she looks even better in that shimmering fabric than she did naked in the wrestling arena. And that memory makes him blush yet again. But it's been a long time and he can't sneak away without saying hello, and besides, she really deserves to be told for amazing she looks. Something like that.

"Psst - Korra! Over here!" Peeking out from behind the deep shadows thrown up by a marble column, Leo waves and gestures with a grin.

The giant clump of white fur that was curled around the end of the couch moved and a polar bear dog’s head looked over at the whisper and gave a slow, low-pitched bark that made its lips flap. Korra turned her head after just barely hearing her name.

“Leo?” she whispered, surprised to see the turtle there. They always avoided being seen by others, Mike being the exception, and this party was the last place she thought she’d Leo. “Naga, stay.”

With that command, the white polar bear dog lowered its head onto the floor and its eyes never left Korra as she stood up and made her way over to the column. She was getting better at walking in heels, but that didn’t mean they didn’t hurt. Her low cut, backless dress was touching the ground, but thankfully not enough to trip her up.

“Didn’t think I’d see you here.” Had he not called her, she never would have been able to pick him out from the shadows. “How was your guys’ off the grid thing?”
anything_it_takes: she's really cool (met a girl)

Wow, that is a big dog-like thing. But hey, as long as it's not trying to bite off a limb or pound him into the pavement, that's cool.

"It's been – really good, actually." Training hard, commiserating with his double and getting to know Mike properly, comparing their histories over remote campfires – which revealed some truly startling differences. Awkward sometimes, because he's somewhat conflicted about his new status as the baby of the group. Both Leonardo and Mike know what it's like to kill somebody, and although Leo has absolutely no inclination to join that club, it was still a bit of a shock. Then again, he's the only one of them whose Splinter IS Hamato Yoshi. That's pretty special, although distressing to hear that he had been killed by the Shredder in not merely one but two worlds.

Intense and revealing as this get-away has been, it's been weeks now, and even though the team has a lopsided skill set they're starting to work pretty well together. Histories aside, they really are family now. It's just a shame they couldn't manage this earlier. And now that they have cohesion, they can face the world together.

"But I've been thinking we should drop back in soon." As if they have a visible presence in the first place. "I have an egg to look after, and… It's about time. We can't afford to be in the dark the next time an emergency happens." He's got a responsibility, and needs to be appraised if any threat appears. Not that Charles or Sabriel weren't keeping tabs themselves, but… Look, he just likes to be in control, okay?

He also likes that dress. Blue really is Korra's color.

"Anyway, you look… Really amazing." He's far more shy than he is smooth, although he's also got honesty on his side. "But, you probably knew that already." Because she's so confident and awesome. She's probably getting a lot of attention from guys who are actually the same species. And closer to her age.

The word Egg raised Korra’s eyebrows. “You found one too?” Having been pretty much absent from the network lately, Korra had no idea that others have found large eggs while in Sinbrilee.

She gave a half smirk and gave a small shrug of her shoulders. “Thanks, it was a custom order.” Compliments had always been hard for Korra to take, and her usual tactic to give one back, but Leonardo wasn’t dressed for the event. So she felt slightly stranded.

“Why are you hiding out here though? They have some great food and drinks floating around. Literally. Ghosts are carrying them around on plates.”

This was a great opportunity for them to eat some really quality food and not just the usual dishes. Pizza being the exception of course.

A soft whine caused Korra to turn around, her backless dress sparkled when she brought her finger to her lips to hush Naga, and the polar bear dog exhaled loudly through its nose and curled some more around the end of the couch.

“Glad you guys are coming back.” Sure that Naga was not going to do anything else, Korra turned back to Leo. “There was something that happened right after the pizza party, but we can talk about that later.” After all, the Bacchanal was in full swing and everything had been fun so far, no reason to ruin it with serious talk.

"I guess that means you found one as well. Congratulations - they're a big responsibility." Personally, Leo is thrilled to find himself in the position of turtle dad, and for some reason it makes him happy that Korra's apparently a turtle mom. Later he'll daydream about what it might have been like to get drawn to the same egg.

Why is he hiding back here? Good question, considering an appearance here as a one-off would be incredibly unlikely to jeopardize them in any way. He has reasons, but not all of them hold up to cross-examination and deep down he knows it. Too many people, too much scrutiny, old habits die hard… Quick, dodge the point of the question.

"Just – y'know. Finding the best spot to grab some. They don't spend much time hanging around the edge here, do they." It's pretty clear from the curious, almost envious way he glances past her to the party that he feels drawn to it, but he's conflicted, and caution rules the day. It's the food that has tempted him even this close.

If Raph were here, he would smack Leo on the back of the head and march out there to do whatever he pleased. And if Mikey were here, he would be ruling the dance floor already. But without the influence of either pragmatism or playfulness to force him out of his comfort zone, paranoia, long training and habit dictate Leo's approach.

That sparkling dress does frame Korra's back very nicely, and the curvature of her shoulder blade and muscular spine is outlined by torchlight as she turns to admonish her pet. The view is very distracting, particularly as it reminds him that he's glimpsed a great deal of the rest of it. At the same time, this is an opening to arrange an official date (so to speak) so he does his best to appear suave and unaffected by her charms.

"Well, how about I swing by, sometime, and we can back up - er! I mean, catch up! We should catch up." Man, he's doing a great Donnie impression right now. So much for suave.

The fact that Leo was also in charge of an egg and was a turtle on top of it was enough get a giggle out of her.

"Responsibility’s your thing, I’m sure you’ll do great. Let me know if you ever need help moving it around. Earthbending does the trick quite nicely." There was no doubt about that, Leo always had a way with handling important things and taking them seriously.

"Well at least have Mike bring some food with you, the ghosts aren’t stingy with the food. Practically force fed Naga when I got here." To which the polar bear dog didn’t bark a whiffle of complaint at. She had seen Mike earlier while she was people watching, so she’d be sure to tell him to bring some for his brother.

Yes, she is still thinking of them as brothers.

The low-cut, backless dress isn’t something she’d think of as part of her charm. Rather it took her a while to get comfortable to walk around in it. Let alone adjust to the heels hidden behind the hem of her dress.

"Sure! A lot’s been going on and things really started picking up after you guys went off the grid. Any time you have the chance, just swing by." As fun as the party was, it wasn’t the right time to recount all that’s been going on back on Tu Vishan.
anything_it_takes: never liked him much anyway (no more mr nice turtle)

"I will, count on it." Watch him pass up a chance to spend time around Korra. Not likely.

As old as turtle jokes get when you hear the same one long enough, the situation with the egg remains enough of a novel twist for Leonardo to still find it amusing. Although at some point, this whole turtles-on-a-turtle business makes him feel like he's staring into a pair of opposing mirrors that generate endless reflections. Disorienting.

"Earthbending, huh? That would do the trick all right. I think Sabriel and Xavier have it covered, but I'll let you know if we need anything. Who's on your team?" Just in case something happens, they should each know who the other is working with.

"Oh yeah. If there's one thing we all specialize in, it's bringing home extra food. But I don't need Mike's leftovers." Leo flashes her a confident smirk with a hint of mischief. Just because he insists on adhering to stealth measures doesn't mean he has to depend on his cousin – or, brother-by-another-ooze, as it were – for handouts. "Watch this." Smugly, he adjusts his belt, then jumps up a nearby wall to bounce and gain some height on the column, and then he's beyond torchlight range, skimming the tops of marble structures.

Although he directed her to watch, there isn't the slightest hint of furtive movement on the party floor. Several minutes later, he hits the ground beside her with a Whump, a plate of some of the best-looking pickings easily balanced on one hand.

"See anything?" Except he knows very well she didn't, mostly because he didn't filch any of it directly from the tables. He just found a good lurking spot by a waiter corridor and nicked pieces as the platters wafted by. Not that it was outside his skill set to dart under some of the tables and make off with a good taking, but this strategy had been easier, less risky and more fruitful. And Leo loves his strategy.

The mystique of ninjutsu is all about misdirection, and he's playing that to the hilt right now. Leonardo might admit to the tactic if questioned close enough, for he is rather proud of himself for the creative solution, but at the moment he's occupied with being a showoff.

Man, he loves being a ninja.

The mention of Sabriel was familiar and even got Korra to raise her eyebrows considering the mage’s close association with Amon. Considering what Marius said at the Yard Sale a while back.

Xavier’s name just got her to tilt her head curiously; it didn’t ring any bells at all.

"Temeraire and Victoria were drawn to the egg too, so we’re helping moving it around for Victoria." While Temeraire was a friend of Amon’s, Korra considered him a friend too and tried to overlook the dragon’s interest in the masked terrorist. As for Victoria, well, Korra’s smile was a fond one when she mentioned the little girl.

Folding her arms over her chest and giving a grin, Korra kept an eye on Leo for as long as she could. Which was up until he was until he was atop the column, from there he could have gone in any direction now that was outside the lighting provided for the party.

After a while of scanning the party, she got the idea to look at Naga, but since she gave no command for her to find Leo; the polar bear dog laid in silence as instructed.

Then the sound of Leo’s landing caused her turn to him.

"Not a thing." She answered, impressed that he managed to get food and stay out of sight. Knicking off a deviled egg from the plate, she ate in one bite the way sushi was normally eaten. That was her compensation for making her wonder just where he went, but still, she was glad he did get some food after all.

"Don’t forget: come visit me, okay?"
