OOC Post | Approved Items | Special Gifts
Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

closed; cecil
So, he got through customs in every area (handing out some super sweet gifts as he did so, since they asked oh so nicely) and was just walking around the area when he happened upon yet another auction and-
That box was floating. Apparently, it was labelled 'CAT.'
It took 0.5 seconds for Gabriel to port to the front row, waving his hands around. "Me! I want the satanic cat box!"
After a couple of rounds with a rather older looking woman, Gabriel won the box and handed over actual juulan rather than the fake crap he had been throwing around. Just in case.
With his new box, he teleported away from the auction to open it on up. The lid came off and he half expected something to wrap around his head... but it didn't... "Well, aren't we a nice and creepy looking kitty. Hello, there."
no subject
Upon returning, he was pleased to find Gabriel apart from the throng, with a big box that he was opening...
"Oh! Hey, Gabe! What did you find there?"
His eyes flicked down to the label on the box. 'Cat.' The box was floating.
No, it couldn't be....
no subject
"A floating cat," he announces with a smile. "I was expecting something evil and vicious, but being chill is always another great pass time."
no subject
"KHOSHEKH! OHMYGOD KHOSHEKH! I KNOW THIS CAT!"
The cat in question purred, which...sounded more like a semi-truck rolling by.
no subject
"Well, they were trying to auction off the little guy. Some old bat had her eye on him. Good thing I saved him for ya."
It was a little obvious this wasn't going to be his cat, by this point. Besides, if it was from Cecil's home, who was he to say no anyway?
no subject
"Thank you, Gabe, thank you - I...this was the station cat back home, and it's...it's so good to see something of home...."
He was close to crying when he looked up at Gabe, finally, a little more mournful than the ordinary. "...It's almost surreal. He couldn't be moved from the station before, and now, here he is."
no subject
Gabriel scratched the cat's little ear. "Don't thank me, man. I just snatched him up. Still, he might have to come visit me every now and then. We bonded, you know." In that five second interval, yes.
no subject
"Of course! You're welcome at my house any time, Gabe." Cecil shook himself from his sadness for a moment to flash a big, grateful smile, eyes flicking up to Gabriel...and then beyond Gabriel, where another auction was starting.
Cassette tapes.
Cassette tapes with his name on them.
Suddenly concerned, he stood on tip-toes, peering over the crowd. "...I...Gabriel, sorry, but...I think...I think those are mine?" He points to the auction, excitedly.
no subject
He turns back to Cecil. "Well, let's go get 'em before that old bat starts bidding her house again." With that, he goes ahead and takes his friend's shoulder and, with a nice flap of wings, they were now before the auctioneer.
Don't be shy, Cecil. Now's not the time to lock up.
no subject
And then he shoves his hand into the air, calling out a bid. He hasn't spent his money on much, so he figures it shouldn't be terribly difficult to afford this.
But he just HAS to know.
no subject
They don't really, of course, but it helps with morale. Especially since his yelling makes sure the bid gets noticed.
"Don't look at the old lady! Look at us!"
