Event | Landfall | Bresilyk | Markutte
Characters: Any and all!
Date: December 3 - 11, 2013
Location: Markutte, Bresilyk (landfall)
Situation: Tu Vishan makes landfall at the winterbound republic of Bresilyk!
Warnings/Rating: Please include warnings in comment subject lines
OOC Post | Approved Items | Special Gifts
Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

So that's primarily what he's doing - window shopping, basically, for anything that looks higher-tech than the 19th century. He knows these people have it, it's just kind of tricky to find.
When he spots Lord Henry, he gives a little wave.
"Hey, long time no see," he says amiably to the other man. "How've you been?"

[Alternatively, with the temperature warmer here than the other towns, she'll find a cozy spot to sit and sketch out some of the buildings, making notes in the margins over what she thinks might be involved in the construction process. Said notes are scribbled in Ancient Greek, but the sketches are pretty accurate and well done.]
[She looks kind of tired (though not as bad as she did a month ago), and even in her architectural distraction, she still pauses to look up and around, like she's waiting for someone to come back. (Which she is, but she and Percy have gotten a lot better about separating since going to the Emperor about Tartarus.)]
[If it's later in the landfall stopover, she's likely to have a rather interesting sword at her side, too, looking like it's made of some sort of bone. But she'll be holding it faintly possessively, almost like she's afraid letting it go means losing it.]

So, it isn't a surprise to see someone he recognizes, and even talked too briefly, at least over the consoles.
That he still didn't have control over.]

So at first he just... sits by her without typing anything on the little wrist computer, enjoying her company. But while Frank isn't loud by any standards and he's actually rather quiet by demigod ones, he's still a demigod. There's only a couple of them who manage to stay put for long.]
What does that mean? [He types before pointing towards a Greek word. His brain would eventually manage to make it click if he focused, but it's his particular way of starting a conversation.]

Otherwise, she thinks she might float away.
She's turned the golden shackles over in her hands so much that they've stayed pretty warm for a while now. Or maybe she just thinks they're warm. She isn't really sure.
She spots Annabeth during one of her loops. Her friend looks good, all things considered. They sword is an interesting addition, though, and she'll walk up closer to get a better look.] Wicked.

A strange-looking sword was fastened to her hips; it sticking out with its medieval design stark against her black and white armor that was armed to the teeth with state of the art technology. Miranda had no use for it, and it was true her only experience with swordplay was fencing lessons in her formative years. Yet something about it had drawn her in - how it was made or even what it was made from both confused and fascinated her. The sword was more a puzzle she desperately wanted solved. ]

dec 10th or so?
When she catches sight of Annabeth, her first instinct is to walk away, not keen on talking with the girl who seems to forever dislike her. Not that Hayley can blame the demigod. It's not like she's super friendly with the other girl, especially not after her introduction to their whole group was through Luke, but Rachel's nightmares gave her insights she wouldn't readily admit to and the sword at the girl's hip does intrigue her. Her thoughts drift to the Bat Man's offer to train her, wondering suddenly if Annabeth might be a better source for that.]
Nice sword. [It seems as good a hello as any as she approaches, Annabeth clearly sketching out more buildings like last time. For the keen observer, Hayley still has a bandage on her left shoulder and another on her left forearm, both hidden beneath the sleeves of her red jacket.]

Yami no Bakura > OTA
(He'd almost laughed at the scale of punishment for thieves, out of pure nostalgia. Some things really did never change.)
Now he was walking the residential areas, getting a feel for the pulse of the town. He noted far fewer kedan here than there were in Aihsohlow and the ones that did come here were keeping to the highest trade traffic areas before stopping to crane his neck at the crystalline windows high above.
OPEN
[The paintings vary in size, some as large as a doorway, others small enough to fit in a large purse. The subjects range from scenery and people in Keeliai - mostly kedan, very few foreigners - to that of distant planets he's been to, and a few are entirely abstract.]
[Kyle himself is seated in the middle of it all, cheerfully calling to potential customers or people he might know.]
no subject
[Actually, 'still mad' was all she had.]
[Not that she could blame him. Much. Two weeks was a little overboard in her opinion, but at least now that she finally caught sight of him--in his natural habitat, surrounded by paintings--she could try to make things right. Maybe.]
Hey. Long time, no see.
[Smiles. A silent peace offering as her eyes scanned the various works.]
You've outdone yourself, Kyle. They're beautiful.

[ Cassie didn't expect to run into art that she can recognize, but she certainly likes it when she does. Her eyes are wide and bright as she looks around, taking her time. ]
[ Then a majestic, abstract painting catches her eye. ]
[ Well, now she knows what she was getting Monet for Christmas. ]
[ Her eyes seek out whoever might be minding them, and she smiles brightly at the man sitting nearby. ]

They never spent winter where it was snowing though, the entire circus traveling don to Florida and the lower states for the season. But he loved snow, and he enjoyed the cold, and being able to wander about was always a fun thing to do.
Especially when you saw a friend.] You know, this is actually the first time I've seen your paintings when they're not on the side of a building.

Using her blue wristband, Korra rubs the intricately carved jade stone that’s the main design for the scabbard she’s holding. Then she grabs the hilt and half pulls out the jian its covering. Both edges of the sword were sharp and it’s overall fully functional, winning it at the auction felt much more satisfying now.
As she’s snapping back into the scabbard, Korra catches the reflection of Vanessa from the pristine blade. A quick glance around and her blue eyes find the blonde girl amidst the crowd in the market stalls. Making her way over, Korra peers over Vanessa’s shoulder to see what booth has her interest and she gives a toothless grin.]

So far he managed to get a hold of an ornate tankard for Tony, a precision tool made of two clamps and two magnifying lenses for Bruce, and a set of throwing knives for Natasha. All of which cut his funds in half.
That left quite a few names of people to buy for, which included Darcy. It’s not until he’s looking at a pile of books, many of them were actually in English that the Asgardian notices her poking around the merchant vendors.]
Darcy! [Since he’s a being synonymous with thunder, his deep voice easily carries on the air. Enough to make others nearby look up in surprise, something he’s used to and isn’t fussed about at all. A few people make way for him and he’s holding up his rucksack with a smile.]

I want a dress. [ She thought aloud; she didn't need one, but after making it to the marketplace she figured now was as good a time as any to dust off her bargaining skills and find something more suitable for walking among the strange and extraordinary than what she came in. Sure, her suit had a shield generator and a holster, but she liked to be flexible. ]

shockwave | ota
There's no specification of what - exactly, for Shockwave had found everything to be of some interest, from the domes to the traditions to the goods on sale. The auctions had been of some interest, and Shockwave had ended up with a cleverly made sphere after a hot bidding war. But it wasn't as if the senator had to eat, and the indulgence was worth it. As was forking out money for the bag - a simple thing, but carrying what purchases Shockwave made or traded for.
Well, except for one. And it's that one - given by a high ranking official - that captures Shockwave's attention. One can find Shockwave sitting off to the side on a bench, away from the main hustle of the town with a plush version of one of the antlered creatures outside standing in the holoform's lap.
That might not account for the wide smile on Shockwave's face, but it becomes clear what does when it moves - head tilting in a curious manner while Shockwave talks to it excitedly. )
It seems that not everyone shares the Emperor's disdain for technology, eh?
