Event | Landfall | Bresilyk | Markutte
Characters: Any and all!
Date: December 3 - 11, 2013
Location: Markutte, Bresilyk (landfall)
Situation: Tu Vishan makes landfall at the winterbound republic of Bresilyk!
Warnings/Rating: Please include warnings in comment subject lines
OOC Post | Approved Items | Special Gifts
Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

[Not that his credentials mean that much to Bucky at this point (which is a good thing, really), but he has to brag. Tony needs the sarcasm between them to establish a sense of normalcy, because if they don't have that, what do they have?
The answer is haunting and not one he wants to pursue.]
Okay, crackshot, you show me your ride when we get back and I'll see what I can do to help. And if you're really good I won't even tell Cap what you said about his shooting.
[The grin is necessary.]
And that was your first mistake. Trusting Nita to drive.
no subject
Hey, tell him all you want, it's true. And in my defense, I figured if you can drive an Atlantean ship, you can drive a Harley. I was wrong.
no subject
[Tony shoves back lightly, a playful gesture that is a bit more subdued, but still affectionate. In truth, he's grown attached to Bucky and he is one of the few people Tony feels comfortable teasing like this.]
Rule One: never assume anyone can do anything. Even if they think they can. Makes life a lot easier.
no subject
[A quiet snort.] Hey, that kinda attitude makes it hard for people who can do anything.
no subject
Of course I can. I'll make you a new one, how's that?
Does it? It's worked for me so far. The less I assume people have control of things, the more successful we are as a whole.
[Tony is partially teasing about that. Although it does explain a lot about his approach to team work.]
no subject
Okay, I'll believe you're the expert when you make a better scope than the one I've got. [No he's weaseling a scope out of Tony. He can be a manipulative little shit, though at least it's usually good-natured.]
It's frustrating though. You know who was always the one they assumed couldn't do anything on the Invaders? Me.
no subject
Deal. I make you a scope, you admit that my work is superior whenever anyone brings it up. I think that's a fair trade.
[That last complaint actually manages to get past Tony's jokes. He can understand the frustration Bucky's talking about, and maybe he does sympathize with him. Maybe he sympathizes more than he realized.]
Prove them wrong. You know what you can do, and I'm not saying you should run out and be reckless, but there's no reason what they think should hold you back. You've got an advantage.
no subject
Deal, I'll sing your praises to high heaven. [He shoots him a grin at that and a little salute, even, but then he shrugs at the next bit.]
I already did. I know what I can do, and anybody who knows anything knows what I can do. Still was rough tryin' to prove it to people who looked down on me like that, though. S'all I'm sayin', at least wait for someone to fuck up first 'fore you write 'em off.
no subject
You're right. You've more than proven yourself, and they should listen to you. Next time they give you a hard time, I'll hit them for you.
[See? Totally bonding.]
no subject
Hey, nobody gives me a hard time anymore. I got to stick around for a lot of good reasons. Just sayin' for other people, give 'em a chance first.
Though I appreciate the offer to hit people for me.
