Event | Landfall | Bresilyk | Markutte
Characters: Any and all!
Date: December 3 - 11, 2013
Location: Markutte, Bresilyk (landfall)
Situation: Tu Vishan makes landfall at the winterbound republic of Bresilyk!

OOC Post | Approved Items | Special Gifts
Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

Yeah, for the most part. I mean, never been one to resist checking out the cities when we make landfall, and it seemed like they've got a lot of great shopping here so I thought I'd see whether I needed anything.
[Pause.]
Or wanted, really. I mean, I'm not just shopping for the tavern but myself. They've got great Winter clothes here, thank the deities.

[Scott's pretty well bundled up. His attire might not be the most attractive in the world - a weird red checkered scarf and muted green coat - but he's warm in the getup and that's all that matters.
Speaking of shopping though....]
Need a busboy to carry your bags or anything? [Despite the joking tone of his voice, the offer's 80% serious.] I need to do some shopping too and it'll probably be funner with someone else.
[Spoilers: Scott actually hates shopping normally.]
no subject
[Because he's right, shopping is a lot better with company.]
What do you need anyway?
no subject
Sounds good. [Who is he to argue when there's a huge thing made of rocks that is totally willing to do his work for him?]
And gifts, mostly. I've got most of my bases covered but if you haven't noticed, I'm not really in with the hip young crowd and I've never been a teenage girl [momentary regret over not having been turned into a girl during the misspell week goes here] so I'm kind of sort of out of ideas there.
no subject
[The words pop out before she thinks better of it. Scott has always been, she's sorry to say, in need of a little guidance when it comes to his wardrobe. She covers the impertinent question with a too-wide smile.]
Gifts are great though! I mean, I could try and help if you'd like. Haven't been a teenage girl myself for a while but at the very least I'm young-ish still and a girl. Would be happy to give you my advice if you'd like it.
no subject
I don't really need anything right now. [That's a lie.] My place is kind of sort of overflowing with junk anyway, in true wannabe-inventor fashion.
[But he does brighten at the offer of advice; it's definitely appreciated and he'll be taking it and milking it for all it's worth.]
Both of those things are more than I've got so yeah, that'd be great. Any place I should be starting?
no subject
Well, tell me about the girl in question? What kinds of things does she like? Interests? Hobbies? Preferences with music or other arts? Does she keep a lot of trinkets or is she more of the sort to keep her living space purely functional?
no subject
She likes superheroes. [Said promptly because, well, it's true.] Also probably animals. She used to listen to NPR—one of the radio stations back home that covered a lot of political and business-y type things—and watched the news all the time. She cooks but please don't buy her any cooking utensils. I think she took karate lessons, I didn't really follow up on that....
[Scott's face turns wistful here, and he slows his step just a touch as he speaks.]
I kind of missed out on the last few years of her life.
no subject
Do you mind if I ask why that is?
[The question is curious, and not unkindly meant. There's no judgment as if she's assumed that it's his fault for not being around. More, her expression is thoughtful, curious and a little sympathetic that it's the case at all.]
I mean not if it's a sensitive subject or anything of course.
no subject
Nah, it's not a big deal.
[Anymore, at least. He doesn't quite meet her eyes as he answers though, electing instead to amble up to a storefront window and stare inside.]
I was kind of dead for awhile. One of the pitfalls of being a superhero. Not sure how long - I never did ask - but it was long enough that the world went on without me.
[He shrugs and looks back at Bryn.]
Not that I really mind. It's not like I was planning on coming back to life. It just kind of--happened.
no subject
Bryn looks back at him and tries to look sympathetic instead of pitying.]
You mean when you got here?
I mean, here, not back home, right?
no subject
Back home, actually. It was kind of a freak accident though. [His smile wobbles between reassuring and uncertain.] Usually people who die stay pretty dead. I'm something of a weird case.
no subject
She forces a little smile on her face.]
Well it's good. There should be more freak accidents that result in good things instead of bad. I bet your daughter was really happy to get her father back too.
no subject
Yeah. Yeah, she was. [For all of five minutes before things went to complete shit. But that isn't the point of this conversation and he doesn't want to make it all gloom-n-doom and all about him.] And I'm glad to see her too even if I have no idea what to get her for Christmas.
no subject
[Tucking her hand into the crook of his arm, she offers an encouraging smile.]
Come on, let's pop in somewhere and look around. Just see what catches your eye and we'll go from there.
no subject
The shops here are pretty varied though, and it's not long before he's pointing at a window filled with sparkling glass windchimes.]
What about those?
