Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside

The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.

Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.

Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.

The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

[This place wears you down. It just means that Dick has to not let it. Or, he can never show it. He has to be the one for everyone else to lean on. It never goes in the other direction. But he has very strong shoulders.

But no, oh god, why are they getting into this?]
That? That's a whole different thing, she's a very lovely dancer. Woman, she is a very lovely woman.

[Goddamnit, they really didn't need to be twins in that area too. Kyle knows it's unhealthy to carry everything all by oneself, but he's never had the option of sharing.]

[And they're getting here because it distracts Kyle from his own problems.]

If you say so. [He affords Dick a cheeky grin, already plotting.] Anyway, had a look around? Anything I can help you with?
bludhavenknight: ([D] You know me and plans)

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2013-12-24 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[If you weren't twins in seriously everything, then were you really twins? Don't answer that one. But you had to be the same in everything, because you just had to be, right? Don't answer that, either.

Come on. Dick might not want to say anything more, but... he's not saying anything more.]
I think I've looked around this place at least once. So, it was either checking out a good friend of mine's paintings and artistic talent, or drinking.

I'm going to do the drinking thing later. But I really haven't ever seen you do this. Or anyone do this, I don't tend to hang out with artists... none that are adult sized, anyway.
imaginate: ([lantern] :O)

[He doesn't have to. Not until after the date, then Kyle expects a thank you.]

Barda would say the real ones aren't adult-sized anyway.

[He'd taken her to a museum once, and she'd ended up enraptured by a preschooler's crayon drawing instead of Caravaggio. Go figure.]

So. What do you think?
bludhavenknight: ([D] I'm changing your password)

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2014-01-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, yeah, he'll do that. After he teases him by talking about how disappointed he was that Kyle stood him up.]

Naw, that can't be true. [He pauses.] Okay, maybe a little bit. I have many beautiful pictures on my walls back home, and the 'a' is always spelled backwards.

[He tilts his head slightly, considering it.] It's good. Is it based on here, or back home?

[He raises an eyebrow, amused.]

Alfred must love those.

[It's out before he can stop it, and his smile turns a bit crooked. A reminder of home, no matter how pleasant the memory, isn't always welcome, and he moves on as smoothly as he can - which is to say, not terribly smoothly at all.]

Back home. One of the unexplored planets out on the farthest areas of our sector.

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2014-01-18 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
So long as they're not drawn directly on the wall, he's good. [Being reminded of Alfred doesn't put him into the state of depression that it does for Bruce. It makes him miss the man all the more, but his expression grows fond.

He's okay. He is. And he has something new to put on his walls, here.]

It's really gorgeous. Does it have a name? Or do you get to name it if you're the first to explore?
imaginate: ([ion] smirk)

[personal profile] imaginate 2014-01-19 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Some of my best work has been on walls.

[Sensing that it's okay to talk about Alfred, Kyle makes his statement and then grins.]

It only has a numerical designation in our database because it's unpopulated; you can name it, if you want.
bludhavenknight: ([N] Pouting)

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2014-01-26 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He would hate that. [He shakes his head with a laugh.] He'd like you, but your good Alfred points are going to take a huge dive down if he has to wash the walls. You should have seen him when I was climbing the chandeliers!

[He climbed all over that damn manor. There is no space he has not touched, and probably with some he shouldn't have. The chandeliers being one of them.]

I would be naming every planet and star that only gets a number. I feel kind of bad about that, just leaving them unnamed. If it's beautiful like that-- [He gestures to the painting.] Then it deserves a beautiful name.
imaginate: ([lantern] what's going on)

[personal profile] imaginate 2014-02-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
You climbed the - [he dissolves into laughter, because of course Dick can and of course Dick did. The mental image of him as a teenager just swinging off them is hilarious. He makes a note to ask the younger one about it.]

[Looking back at the painting, he smiles fondly.]

Yeah, me too pal. I'm not that great with names, though.
bludhavenknight: ([D] I see what you did)

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2014-02-10 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Climbed and swung. We went through that first aid kit pretty quick. [Dick laughed with him. It's one of those really good memories. It was closer to when he'd first started living with Bruce, but a little bit after the nervousness of it all. He'd been terrified for months of being sent back if he moved a dish by accident.

There are bad times, but they tend to get tempered by good times. And there have always been a lot of good times.]
I'm pretty good with names. But when I say that, I mean I'm good at coming up with names, not that the names are good.

[He smiles at the painting.] If I had to name this one, I'd call her Darla.

[personal profile] imaginate 2014-02-15 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm never letting you anywhere near my kids.

[Exhibit A: he wants a family, more than anything in the world. Even more than being a hero, but he's too used to deflecting it.]

Planet Darla - I'll put that in the suggestion box and call you when the results are in.

[Exhibit B? He can call Dick. It's weird. Maybe they won't remember anything about being here but Kyle's coming to see Dick as like Wally - he can't see them not hanging out and causing trouble.]
bludhavenknight: (Default)

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2014-02-18 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well fine, I'm not letting you near mine, and we'll just have to deal with a Montague-Capulet situation a few years down the line.

[Who doesn't want a family? Even people who said they didn't want a family wanted a family. Just look at Bruce. He has a family, and never let it be said that he wasn't glad to have one (just ignore him). Dick wants a family. He wants a wife, and kids, and a dog and a cat. The hallucination he had way back when does not tamper that in any way.]

Planet Darla has a nice ring to it, right? [He grins.] We'll go out to dinner to celebrate. We can get pizza. Good pizza.

The Grayson-Rayner conundrum. I like it.

[He grins.]

Don't tell me one'll be named Romeo and the other Juliet, because that'll really be a story, and Gardner will never let me live it down.

[A soft laugh.]

Pizza sounds great, after I close up today?
bludhavenknight: ([N] Flippy collar)

[personal profile] bludhavenknight 2014-02-21 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Nope. No me gusta Romeo or Juliet. [Dick shakes his head. Hell no, he is not naming either of his kids that. Especially Romeo. That's just setting the kid up for awful jokes and way to high expectations.]

We can still go with a J and R theme names, but there is no way I will ever let someone name our kid Romeo.

[He grins.] Sounds good to me. You know, I think my neighbor got a pig. We could be looking at bacon sometime in the near future.
