OOC Post | Approved Items | Special Gifts
Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

Closed; Vanessa
Using her blue wristband, Korra rubs the intricately carved jade stone that’s the main design for the scabbard she’s holding. Then she grabs the hilt and half pulls out the jian its covering. Both edges of the sword were sharp and it’s overall fully functional, winning it at the auction felt much more satisfying now.
As she’s snapping back into the scabbard, Korra catches the reflection of Vanessa from the pristine blade. A quick glance around and her blue eyes find the blonde girl amidst the crowd in the market stalls. Making her way over, Korra peers over Vanessa’s shoulder to see what booth has her interest and she gives a toothless grin.]
Find anything?
no subject
She just... can't let them go. And that's scary.
She's honestly barely paying any attention to what she's looking at, hoping that the shopping in Markutte would help to take her mind off of, well, everything. Except that's not working well at all.
Korra's definitely an unforeseen event here, and Vanessa nearly jumps out of her skin when she hears the girl's voice.] Oh goddess! [Pressing a hand to her chest, she takes a deep breath.] Yeah. A heart attack.
no subject
Thinking about what next to buy, or something else? [Teasing, and she didn't let it linger in the air either.]
But the those are pretty nice. [Korra tilted the scabbard downward to point at Vanessa's waist where the golden bands are.] Auction?
[Being nosy simply because she got a nice jolt of fun from Vanessa's jumpiness.]
no subject
[Like Vanessa hasn't but whatever.
At the mentioned of the shackles, she glances down, nodding stiffly.] Pretty things can be dangerous sometimes. But yeah, I saw them a couple of days ago. [She looks the scabbard over.] That's neat. Thinking of picking up weapons to work with?
no subject
So good weird or bad weird? [All Korra knew of Catty was that she and Vanessa were working to help spread the drug awareness about Dust.]
no subject
Weird weird. I think she's just stressing out, but I don't know. But something to cheer her up will be good. [there's an obvious note of worry in her voice, though.]
no subject
Sounds easy, what does she like? [If Vanessa’s that concerned, Korra’s ready to jump up to help.]
no subject
[A laugh.] Now that's an easy question. Art, jewelry, cute or funky clothes, food. Catty's easy enough to please.
no subject
But, since you promised. This- [Placing one hand on the sheathe and the other on the hilt, Korra drew out half of the jian. It's condition is mint and the metal actually mirrors their reflection.] is for Emperor Eshai.
no subject
And ceiling.
At the mention of it being a gift for Eshai, her eyes widen a bit.] Ohh, what a good idea! I bet she'd really love that, Korra.
no subject
Now I just have to figure out how to get it to her. But that's different from your problem. I'm not too great with jewelry or clothes. [Considering the only jewelry Kora's wearing is the symbol on her jacket and her clothes are always the same.]
There's got to be some paint and brushes for sale somewhere around here.
no subject
You could probably take it up there to her? Maybe give it to a guard or something. She probably doesn't get that many presents.
[That's okay, Korra. Vanessa has that kind of knowledge in spades. One day, she'll have a makeover party.] Would you want to come and help me look? We can take our time and check other stuff out.
no subject
Uh- [Her eyes widen at the prospect of shopping for something outside her personal preferences. Even weapons were inside her spheres of influence.] I don't think I'd actually be any help, but. sure?
[Cat deer in the headlights.]
no subject
[She can't help but laugh at Korra's expression, and it takes only about a split second before she just makes the decision to thread her arm through Korra's and tug her along.] That's okay, I will just give you all of my knowledge while we look. Then you'll be an expert for the next time.
no subject
She’ll just kick herself later. At least it’s with someone she knows. It takes a few seconds for her to remember just what Vanessa said before the words next time]
Okay, paint. Can’t we just buy buckets? [That’s totally cans of house paint being sold at the stall Korra’s pointing to. Because to her, really, paint is just paint.]
no subject
She makes a face at Korra's suggestion.] Unless she's going to start going around painting suites, which I doubt. At least, not with stuff like that. What we need is going to be much smaller and better for her to work with.
no subject
[So complicated.] Why don’t we just make some? [This isn’t Water Tribe war paint Korra.]
no subject
I... don't know how to. [a beat.] Do you?
no subject
Yeah. It’s easy. [For the Avatar.] It’d take a while to make a lot though.
no subject
no subject
Mmmmaybe a couple of hours? [That's a long time for something that's not physically challenging her, okay.]
no subject
no subject
Not that many, and we should be able to find them for sale. Wanna split up and come back here? Then we can go back to Tu Vishan to make the paints.
no subject
Okay sure. But maybe I should write down what I'm looking for, in case I forget. [She'll take a pen from a nearby stand and just writes on her arm, w/e.]
no subject
You just get the colors and I can get the rest. [Making them would be simple, but tedious. But she knows Vanessa’s closest friend deserves a good gift.]
