OOC Post | Approved Items | Special Gifts
Aihsohlow | Phorezton | Markutte | Countryside
The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.
Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.
Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.
The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

closed; dick
That would make them one of a kind. Rare collectibles that people here would love to blow money on. It's the same back home, she figures.
Even if it doesn't make sense to her, she likes to watch it all go down.
It doesn't even make a big impression on her at first. A jar of ashes, okay. That's weird. Who would want that at all? But the more she stares at them, the more she knows. The bids keep coming, driving the price higher.]
No way.
Re: closed; dick
Those items weren't just things from the different towns here. Some of those things were items from people's homes. And the people? Were the ones who had been brought here, aka the not native people.
Oh shit. It was at that point in the revelation that he thought of two things. First, the items here could be bid on by anyone, and that meant that some things could be going home with a native of some kind. Second, that he probably had some things coming to him that were up for bid somewhere.
Oh shit. Ever since then, he had been spending some time at the auctions, taking the money he had saved and bidding on anything that seemed like it could be for someone else. Like the jar of ashes. Dick didn't think that anyone here would put a jar of ashes up for bid, so each time the price climbed up higher, he was bidding as well. He was going to win this if it killed him.]
Here. [He raised his hand again as the auctioneer called out a number.]

But an uncomfortable feeling crawls around inside of her stomach, tying it into knots.
Ignore it, ignore it.
She chews on her lip, feeling the way her molecules hummed almost violently. Maybe she could just ask whoever won the thing if she could see it, then that would put it all to rest. Walk away, forget it.
Glancing over, she catches the voice of the latest bidder, an almost sick feeling of relief washing over her. At least it was someone she knew.]
Thinking of starting a collection?
no subject
Oh... well. [He laughed.] See, there are all these things showing up-- hold on.
[He raises his hand again. Rats, it's up again. He puts down his hand and smiles at her.] People have been finding their stuff around, so... I try to grab as much of it as I can, before it goes somewhere else.

Vanessa bites her lip for a second, watching the price go up. Over ashes. People around here sure are weird.]
I think... That jar is mine. Well not mine. It belonged to my mentor, technically, and I have no idea what she did with them after I gave them to her. But I think it's meant for me. [She kind of rambles all of this.]
no subject
It goes up again, and Dick is in the midst of raising his hand when she tells him it's her's.]
That jar is yours? In some way, it's yours? You know what, it doesn't matter. Let me get them for you. [He smiles, raising his hand.]
no subject
[Or at least, that's her theory.
She makes a face, somewhat apologetic, somewhat defeated because she's learned that her life is too complicated to describe easily enough.]
Thank you. I'll pay you back for this, I swear.
no subject
Still, he hadn't considered the rip in the universe being connected to being near land. It makes him think about it for a moment. Still, he just smiles at her, shaking his head as his bid is caught.]
Don't worry about it. Really, it's my pleasure to do this for someone. I figure I'll be bidding on someone's stuff, but it's nice to actually get it for the right person instead of just guessing.
no subject
You're kind of a saint, you know that?
no subject
That's right, I am a saint. [Dick grins.] Just call me Saint Dick, the returner of special items.
