Situation: Tu Vishan has washed up near the coastal city of Khatronma.

The suddenness of the looming cliffs takes even the kedan by surprise, in spite of a number of them trying to plot their course with as much knowledge of the ocean’s currents as they already had. Tu Vishan makes landfall without any of the grace shown in previous times, bumping into the cliffs before finally coming to rest on the reef and rocks at the low tide around Khatronma.

Most of Khatronma's shores consist of steep iced cliffs, and once it becomes clear there is no threat, the residents of Khatronma oblige by establishing scaffolding across from the walls of their city to the turtle’s back. A customs area is quickly set apart, and the residents of Keeliai welcomed -- with some slight confusion. The Khatronmans are just as surprised by the unexpected docking as the kedan.

THE EMISSARIES - FEB 6

For anyone who happens to be near the customs area when the emissaries enter Khatronma, they'll notice that the arrival causes a bit of a stir. Despite its busy industrial aspect, important statespeople from the capital citydome of Lichoyras are somewhat rare -- so having five of them arrive all at once is certainly news that will travel quickly. These dignitaries have special passports which allow them both free passage into any of the Republic's domes, and also exempt them from certain legal conditions. They're easy to spot amongst the shipbuilder population: their clothes are a much higher quality, more colourful, and their silky hair is cut notably shorter than the coast-dwellers' styles. They also speak with a lighter accent than the Khatronmians, whose speech can sometimes be overly guttural, even though they're very well-spoken.

None of the emissaries make it a secret that their goal is to secure passage on Tu Vishan. They'll remain in Khatronma until permission from the family heads is granted, and then they'll be moving back and forth between Khatronma and Keeliai, making it possible to speak with any of them at either location. The military commander, Azehaiss, generally takes the lead on speaking with the Khatronmian mayor, but his primary focus is getting a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of all Tu Vishan's divisions: the kedan and the Foreigners.

Eiryam and Ingsthya can often be found together, and spend more time in Keeliai than in Khatronma; as the two youngest members of the group, they have something of a friendly rivalry going and tend to bicker as much as they investigate. Both of them are highly interested in having dealings with the Families, as well as any Foreigner who can give them insight into those factions.

Khayleof prefers to let chance dictate her interactions with the kedan and Foreigners, because her bones are old, she's fond of saying. Despite this, she's actually quite spry, and not afraid to rap someone over the head if they're not being respectful to their elders.

Nandzinra also spends much of her time in Keeliai, or more appropriately, outside Keeliai. It's most common to find her in various locations on the turtle's shell, examining the state of its regrowth. She also carries around quite the suitcase of testing equipment, and isn't shy about taking samples.

For Azehaiss

Okay, easy enough; all he has to do is contact whosoever's likely keeping track of all this, and ask one simple question. Easy.

Dante doesn't like military types much, but he's sure that it can't be entirely impossible to ask one simple question. So he waited to figuratively ambush the commander. He's not hiding behind some bureaucracy, so how badly could this go?

"I expected someone like you to leave speaking to the little guys to his underlings."

Azehaiss is dressed smartly in a Bresilykian naval uniform, and while he seems mildly surprised to be approached by one of the Foreigners, he doesn't treat it as unwelcome.

"As you can see," he said, gesturing around. "I hardly have underlings here at my beck and call. In any case, I prefer my information firsthand."

"That makes two of us." Oh good, straight to the point. Dante hates this little game he's found himself playing, and the sooner he gets what he wants, the better. He retains his usually unreadable grin. "So you're looking for information, huh? That makes two of us. I'm a little new to this buisness, which one of us asks their questions first?"

"Anyone worth listening to is always looking for information," Azehaiss responded lightly. "But by all means, please take the initiative."

"I've heard this place is really up on it's seafaring." He got right to the point. "I need to know if there's been any rumors of large turtles. Live ones."

For Khayleof

Iroh happened to notice the old women and waved her over. "Ah, good day to you!"

Khayleof had just finished a discussion with a family of kedan regarding their son's new apprenticeship, and responded to Iroh with a sage nod. "And to you."

"Enjoying the visit?" Iroh asked. "Please, do, come sit down. It helps to rest the feet."

[ironwood]

"It's been very enlightening so far," Khayleof answered, looking around to try and determine where they were. "Where is it that I should sit? You're a Foreigner, are you not?"

Iroh gestured to a bench.

"I am. My name is Iroh, and I've been here two years by now. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The elder Bresilykian woman sat. "Is that length of time typical among the Foreigners? Also, I admit I've gotten a tad turned around. What district is this, again?"

[whitelotustile]

"Not untypical. Some have been here longer, and some shorter, though very few of us arrived in the last year," Iroh explained. "My nephew and his friends all arrived after I did. And it's the Earth Sector, ma'am. It helps to keep track by the architecture. They're all very well named."

Iroh was quite fond of the Earth sector, actually: it reminded him of the home he'd found in Bah Sing Sei.

The only one that Khayleof could immediately pick out was the Wood Sector, and that was because it was so very like her hometown of Phorezton. "So you were present when the Great Turtle came to Evidet last time," she said thoughtfully. "There do not seem to be many left, who were there."

"A few. It feels like that if you last a few months here, you're more likely to hang on, but that could be simply because I meet more people the longer they stay."
