Time to Get Our Hands Dirty
Characters: Yuri Lowell, Members of Brave Vesperia, and anyone else!
Date: August 11 and beyond
Location: Central
Situation: Cleaning up the fire damage.
Warnings/Rating: None that I know of. List any in the headers.
The first had left quite a mess. Yuri didn't know what had happened to Erskine, but he didn't think it was anything to worry about. Surely his friends had taken care of the matter. What was left was seeing to the community and cleaning things up. There was definitely a lot of work to be done, and Brave Vesperia was stepping up to the plate. Whether they got paid or not didn't matter. This was something that needed to be done. One of the other foreigners had done this, and it was kinda their responsibility to help.
Thus the morning after the incident found a meeting in the lobby of the Midnight Hotel. All available members of Brave Vesperia gathering there as Yuri explained the situation and what they would be doing. Since there was no guarantee of pay, anyone could opt out of they wanted to, but Yuri was going to lead the charge out there. Even if he went by himself.
Once things were explained and decided, the group headed out to the destruction zone. Each person being assigned tasks according to their talents and abilities. And if anyone that wasn't a member of Brave Vesperia joined in, that was fine, the more the merrier. Yuri himself would be putting his sword aside today, only bringing it just in case it was needed as a tool. Despite the fact that weapons weren't allowed in Central. His hair pulled back and his sleeves pushed up as he helped to move the rubble. The man pausing now and then to give an encouraging pat on the back to any forlorn Kedan who viewed their wasted businesses. They would get through this, and Brave Vesperia was here to help.

He actually just walked up when he spotted Yuri. He had thought about Yuri's comment of 'here to help with work' or something of the like when he went to ask for help that once, decided it a good idea, and well. Here he is.
Duke might not look particularly ready for work shifting and clearing away rubble, as his hair is still loose and everywhere as usual, but he doesn't seem to care.
no subject
"Hey," Yuri called out in greeting. "Didn't expect to see you here. Guess life isn't as exciting when there's no apatheia to destroy, huh?"
Not that Yuri was objecting or anything. The more the merrier as far as he was concerned.
no subject
"Did I mistake what you remember last?" It's almost a conversational tone, except Duke is never conversational, and his words are a bit clipped. Angry, but not enough to actually leave.
"I thought you knew of their origins." He wouldn't use 'understood' with Yuri - after all, he'd already thrown that back in the young man's face once.
no subject
"The last thing I remember is you trying to fix the worlds problems by killing an innocent girl. Who was guarding one of those things with her life."
Yuri then stood up and dusted his hands.
"Look, I'm sorry alright? Things have been pretty crazy."
no subject
Then Yuri surprises him, and he blinks over. He's silent for a long moment, before he releases his half-held breath in an annoyed sigh.
"I would have killed Alexei, if I could have managed it." Rather quietly, as he returns to shifting rubble with a bit more care. "He was the one causing her powers to go out of control." ... Of course, that does imply that if Estelle had been the one fully in control and still massively misusing her powers, he would have been aiming for her completely. It's totally not his fault they make assumptions!
no subject
But now it's time for him to be surprised. Yuri stared at Duke in a stunned silence for a few moments. It hadn't even occurred to him that Duke might have tried to kill Alexei first. Yuri had been so consumed with his own desperation to save Estelle that he had completely villainized the other man for even suggesting that everything was Estelle's fault.
Now he really felt like an ass.
"Damn..." He muttered and went back to picking up debris.
no subject
Duke shifts rubble and debris in silence for a while longer.
"It does have its roots in your greeting." His voice is back to the usual neutral flat. He's back to calm. "Alexei had been hunting entelexeia down." Except for a little venom in that bit. Dead for who knows how long now, and Duke still probably would stab him on sight.
no subject
"Heh, and the thing he was obsessed over ended up destroying him. It's kinda poetic."
That was one of the last things he saw after all, before coming here. Alexei being crushed by Zaude's apatheia. The punishment certainly had fit the crime in the end. Justice had been well served. Even if Alexei's actions had left them with a much bigger problem.
no subject
This silence for working is much more comfortable.
no subject
"Some of the people here kinda remind me of him," Yuri thought bitterly, not mentioning names. "And Asti is kinda like one of the Entelexeia. There's gotta be a way we can help him somehow."
no subject
... Ah, an good reason for him to be keeping out of the general city politics as best as he can.
"I had noticed the last." Nothing else, in terms of creatures of Terca Lumireis, could reach minds of other beings. Even if they were the wrong sort to hear anything that way. Unfortunately, searching ocean for where it seemed like he had been in that vision, on the off chance that there would be a fragment of Asti or a clue to restoring him there seemed a bit... difficult, when most of this place was ocean. (As far as Duke knew.)
... Hmn, Entelexeia.... ".... Although we would have greater problems if his equivalent of an aer krene was at the ocean's floor..." What if he needed to dive?
no subject
"But he can't even move anyway, and he's sinking. Nobody will be able to do anything soon at this rate. I think I heard that there used to be a barrier around him. I know how you feel about them, but a barrier blastia would be pretty handy right now."
no subject
Yeah, he doesn't particularly like barrier blastia. And even then, Duke is aware that it would have to be built for something like keeping out salt water, rather than monsters.
Duke pauses in mid sorting, eyes focusing on something else. Wait, they had already combined foreigner magics into a spell. If another of the mages here had a way to make a stable power source, or perhaps just a container that others could charge - like Duke and Yuri with their Dein Nomoses (... is it supposed to be Dein Nomi? Duke shoves that thought away, it wouldn't matter on Terca Lumireis, and honestly wasn't what he was focusing on-) Part of the problem with salt water - or perhaps ocean water - was that it wasn't just water and salt mixed to the right levels, but there was other things in it... If he could allow for the change in water...
Sorry Yuri, Duke is lost in thought now.
no subject
"You alright over there?"
no subject
"There are more possibilities open than simply using a core." There is his cryptic reply, because he's still working out if it could or couldn't work. He might have to find another way to define the power that runs the formula, or leave it as a blank space that they would put the power in for? Possibly.
He's still shifting rubble, but it's slower. Still thinking.
no subject
"Oh yeah? Like what?"
Estelle could use artes without a blastia, so anything was possible right? But then he wasn't a mage. Man, what he'd give to have Rita here right about now. She could make sense of this stuff a hell of a lot better than he could.
no subject
"If I set the barrier formula up right, it might be able to take in any sort of magic aimed at it for power." That would make sense to him, right?
He looks a little less distant, talking about magic.
no subject
"If you think you can pull that off, I'll do what I can to make it happen."
There was definitely a lot of magic users and most of them would likely be willing to help. Yuri could round them up.
no subject
.... Either way, Yuri probably is the better people-person. If he can keep his mouth in check-
... Duke will ask on his own too. To have it all weighing on whether Yuri can keep civil is a bit much.
"Theory is simple enough. Small scale barriers of its type ought to be simple as well." He's modifying an existing spell, mages do this in combat all the time. "Fueling it is the only worry I have."
... He's not arrogant about his abilities with making spells, honest.
no subject
"Right... Well, let me know when you're ready to set this up."
Then dusting his hands off again, Yuri stepped towards Duke. The raven haired man stretching out his arm to offer his hand.
no subject
He blinks blankly at the offered hand for a moment, his hair unhelpfully in his face. Right. Okay.
Duke straightens and dusts his own hands off, before reaching over for a short handshake.
"I'll find some way to do so." 'I'll find you' sounded perhaps a bit too knowing of Yuri's habits, but there were other methods and he might as well leave wandering up to him as an option.
no subject
Once the handshake was done, Yuri put his hand on his hip and nodded. "Right."
no subject
Duke's hand just goes back to his side, as usual. "It might be a week or so before I'm comfortable testing at... sector size?" He could get an idea of the cost then, if he tests it at that size after making sure it does what he wants. "... so do not expect much before then." He's going to be very thorough.
no subject
That'll give them some time to get this mess cleaned up anyway. Just as long as it happened before those Chihuleans get here.
no subject
If he's a little slower than he was at the start, it's because he's multitasking.
