Characters: Hannibal Lecter, Mark Hoffman, Lord Henry Wotton
Date: During the Malicant plot
Location: Around the Fire Sector // Hannibal's Suite
Situation: Just a routine investigation into some rather shady business.
Warnings/Rating: Two out of the three involved characters are secret serial killers.
Pre-Investigation
In times like these, Hannibal usually preferred to take things into his own hands. However, in this particular situation, he found himself in a city he was not yet completely familiar with, investigating a matter that could escalate and end up being a few dozen kedan against him. Any of the individual kedan he'd seen he was confident he could fight off - perhaps a few at a time - but even for Dr. Lecter there was a time to admit that solo investigating was more trouble than it was worth.
A lot of the people he'd met were already involved in something or other. It seemed that this Malicant person (a person who, Dr. Lecter thought, seemed rather fascinating in his own right) had been causing trouble well before his own arrival. He had chosen Mark Hoffman, because there was something interesting about him, and also because he was a cop and Hannibal wanted to size him up and see if he was a potential threat. Lord Henry Wotton because, well, he seemed to have good taste and be the certain type of person Hannibal chose to socialize with most often.
He'd agreed to meet at a rather quiet part of the Fire Sector, not too far from his own suite, and waited there now.
Post-Investigation
So, Malicant didn't decide to show up. What a shame. Hannibal would have killed to meet him. But, their investigation into the kidnapping ring wasn't entirely fruitless. While Hannibal didn't actually care one bit for the fate of the kidnapped kedan, he could look like he did, and it might gain him some favor with the foreigners and the natives, and he had to build up some favor before he could participate in his favorite pastime or he might seem a little suspicious.
The notes were laid out on the table in front of them, written in the kedan language which unfortunately Hannibal, despite being a quick learner, didn't yet know how to speak.
"I don't suppose either of you are familiar with this language?"

So he strolls in to the meeting-place, insouciant as ever, and greets the good doctor with a smile. "Good evening, Doctor Lecter."

"That is the word for 'light'," he says, pointing it out. He manages to decipher as well the words for turtle, water, leather, wood, and then—with a slight expression of dismay—blood.
He shakes his head. "Would that I could read more. But I have a friend, a book-dealer in the Wood sector, who would be willing to translate for a price."
