Jim studies him briefly, and then folds the note over and slides it into a pocket. "Okay," he says. Outwardly, it's accepting - even a little dismissive - but Kyle's never been content with the top layer of what he's thinking or saying and beneath that, there's a sense of trust that goes fathoms deep. "Mind your manners and make sure you eat your veggies."

He sighs. Jim has layers even though he doesn't like people to see them, and Kyle's at the point where he feels a bit more comfortable prodding to see if this is a door he can open.

'Brush my teeth three times a day?' he asks, gently.

[jirk]

His instinct is still to blank himself out. There's a part of him that'll always hate being read, but Kyle's earned it, and so he forces himself not to escape back into comfortable neutrality. A bit of the conflict show in how he refolds his arms, but it settles.

"Just be careful, okay?"

He stays where he is, hands at his side, pondering. Then, he steps forward and kisses Jim, slow, gentle, and chaste. I'll be careful. Jim worries about his people too much, and he's.. really not the type to agree with the Good hunting that Kyle uses with his Corps. They're soldiers. Jim.. is an explorer first.

'The wind won't even mess up my hair.'

That's another thing Jim's having to get accustomed to. The random displays of affection. Jim really doesn't have the patience for it at the best of times. Hell, don't get him wrong, he likes foreplay in all its incarnations, but Kyle has a thing for affection without point or purpose and it kind of wigs him out.

Still, he lifts a hand and lets his fingers catch at Kyle's arm just above the elbow, and he tightens his grip just a little in answer to that unspoken statement. I know.

"I reserve the right to get all Captainly on you if you've got a strand out of place, Rayner."

'Yes, sir,' he replies, quietly. The words are teasing but his tone isn't, still, he means for this to remain as light as possible. It feels too much like I've got to leave Earth, Jen, I don't know when I'll come back and it's just— just a fucking excursion to find a magician he doesn't even know he'll locate at all and—

Breathe, he reminds himself.

He picks up the backpack, smiles tightly at Jim, and heads slowly for the door.
