He doesn't even try to avoid the elbow to the side. He kind of deserves it. He gives her the blandest, most innocent look possible. It makes him look kind of dumb, but he totally knows she's caught him. "What?"

She's torn between rising in an angry huff and breaking into a stupid grin, and so she also deems it fit to punch him in the arm. "You idiot, you're a sneaky little liar, you jerk," and she smacks his arm to round that off. "Don't you what at me, that's my question!"

Percy starts to laugh, taking the punch without complaint, but fending off the smack before it can land. "Oh man, I can't believe it worked that long," he manages to say in between all the laughter. "Would it make you less mad if I told you we have reservations and don't have to spend any of the evening talking to snobby rich fish smugglers?"

Annabeth makes a grumbly growly sort of noise over his reaction, especially the laughter, smacking him again for good measure since he blocked the other one. Despite all that, there's a grin creeping its way onto her face. "You're an asshole," which should have been the Ancient Greek equivalent, but it translates, and her tone is inflecting on affectionate. And probably exasperation. "You should have just told me that in the first place!"

He lets that one land without trying to avoid it, figuring better small pain now than great pain later. He catches the inflection in her voice and manages to stop laughing so much, just grinning happily. "And ruin the surprise? Come on, isn't it like, that much better now you know how bad the evening could have been?"

He reaches out to take her hand again, tangling their fingers together. "If you keep hitting me, they probably won't let us in."

Annabeth huffs, because she's Annabeth, but the smile on her face over it all turns into something more overbearing. She gives his hand a squeeze, shaking her head at him at the same time.

"Much better." She leans up and kisses him, soft but meaningful. "You're still an idiot, and if they don't let us in after all that effort, it'll be the least of your concerns."
