Turtles: the final frontier

Characters: Chekov and YOU
Date: Today-ish
Location: Absolutely everywhere
Situation: Chekov has been snatched from the Enterprise and dropped shoeless and confused into a city on the back of a turtle. Clearly the solution is to look around and go shopping.
Warnings/Rating: None

At first, he'd thought it was a very, very strange dream. Of course, that theory was debunked about two minutes in when he pinched himself. Then he was carted from a grand palace to a reasonably large city. He couldn't identify this particular race of aliens, but it's clear that their technology lags far behind the Federation's. So he stays quiet. So do they, actually. The few questions he asked-- generic questions-- he'd gotten little scraps of information and a lot of 'that's the Emperor's business.' A monarchy. That explains the palace, he supposes.

Once they show him his suite (it was pretty nice) and dropped some money into his hands (money? How outdated), Chekov decides to set off. He needs to change out of his uniform, just to be safe. The Prime Directive is that one rule you don't want to break in Starfleet. Even hinting at the fact that he was from a world more advanced than this one is a bad idea. He needs to blend in as much as he can.

A little hard to do when you're standing shoeless in the middle of Metal Sector.

Alright. He focuses: clothes, food, crew, answers. Without any kind of Starfleet communication device, he's going to have to hoof it around the city. Just as well: not having a mental map of this place bothers him; he might as well start making one now.

’Cold ‘ caught Korra’s undivided attention, especially when it was paired with being very, very big. “There are cities in places like that?” both her lips stuck out as she raised her eyebrows. The name of it sounded strange, but she guessed it was named after someone. Saint was a weird name for someone to have, but then again, there were a lot of weird names in Keeliai.

“We just have a village back home on the South Pole. Igloos and huts, nothing like buildings though. Not unless you count the compound.” Even that had animal skins laid out on the walls.

Curious, she started to look through a nearby rack, and occasionally looked from the clothes to Chekov, trying to see what clothes would look good on him. As usual, she was partial to blue and tended to hover on that color longer.

“What made you join the ‘Fleet?” Korra may have been hanging Jim a little too often, his little bits of slang were rubbing off on her. “Like did everyone have little starships instead of cars and you were just a natural, or what?” that was a pretty interesting visual for her; odd, but interesting.

“You get used to it.” Proper equipment was simply fire, animal furs, heavy clothing, and waterbending. Or at least, that’s all she could think of that they used to combat the climate conditions.

When he held up the blue shirt, Korra gave a thumbs up and a wink.

“Yeah, well who would pass up the chance, right? Most I got to do was look at them.” She gave a half-smirk before she picked out three different colored shirts, put them on her arm, and started looking through differently style pants.

“So what rank are you? Lieutenant? Commander? General?” Right after that last one she squinted one eye as if appraising a gem and looked him up and down. Unlikely as it was, he could have been a general, Iroh was one after all and he wasn’t much older than Korra.

"I'd like to see it for real, at least one time, so you got yourself a date Pavel."

She grinned and pressed a few pairs of pants onto his chest. "Ensign sounds a lot better than cadet. I'd take that rank any day of the week."

Leaning onto the racks lined up against the wall, she folded her arms over her chest.

"My world's pretty behind the times apparently." But it still had bending, so it wasn't that bad.

That makes her smile. As much pressure and responsibility that comes with being the Avatar with all it entails, Korra really does love her role so she recognizes that enthusiasm Chekov emanates when talking about his position.

“Yeah. I mean we have airships and satomobiles back home, but nothing like the consoles or the network. Took me a while to get used to it and figure out how to use the encryption on it.” She still has no idea how to use anything beyond basic and even less of a clue of how to hack anything. Just the encryption Tony installed on her console.

“But that’s simple stuff for you guys. Have you thought of a job yet? I know Stark Industries and Wayne Enterprises hire foreigners, especially smart ones.” She unfolded one arm to point at him. “Like you.”

“Teaching me how to beat a Wakandan King at some console mahjong would be quite the trick.” She smirked, not helping shed any light on that statement considering she said it somewhat sardonically. Everything Chekov could show her related to technology would probably blow her mind in much the way Tony had done.

Speaking of Tony, well, the lush Tony. “If technology is your thing, then Stark Industries would be your first stop. Foreigner run and hires kedan and foreigner alike if they got the mindset for tech stuff.” She gave a toothy grin. “Obviously I don’t work there. But Pepper Potts if the person to talk to, she’s Tony Stark’s head honch-ess and nice.”

She raised her eye brows and pursed her lips. “Would you have to clear that with Jim?” Korra wasn’t sure how the Captain handled his crew off the Enterprise, especially since Chekov was the first one she met.

"Let her know I slung you her way. Might move you up in her queue" She was sure Pepper didn't play favorites, not when she was pretty much running the entirety of Stark Industries.

"Let Jim know I slung you his way too." Said while snickering, she would love to see that happen.

She waved her hand dismissively, still grinning. "Don't worry about it." Pestering Jim remotely was something she had to take chance at, the opportunity was too good.

"Just get settled in first before you start the job search." If anything, he probably wouldn't have to if he didn't want to, Korra knew how Jim took care of his crew. Something he didn't try to hide in the least. "There's a lot to learn about this place. Heck, I'm still learning stuff about it."

"Yeah, tell me about it. That’s just the city, there’s a couple of really creepy foreigners here too. So just avoid them if you can." As far as her experience went anyway, the only one who made themselves fairly unavoidable had been Amon and the Batman. Of the two, Batman was the only unpredictable one. Amon usually kept to himself except in certain situations, herself being one of them.

"It’ll all make sense in a few days, so don’t sweat the details."

"Creepy like ‘watching and following people without them knowing’ creepy. Then there’s there the I know there’s something not right about you, but I don’t know what’ kind of creepy."

She half-shrugged at him. "I try not to worry about them too much since we generally have a pretty friendly foreigner group going." A chuckle. We don’t have any meetings, but we help each other out." Kind of why she’s here. She’s not part of the welcoming committee, Korra does help out once in a while.
