[open] gotta get down on...saturday
Characters: OPEN
Date: 9/7, early afternoon through night
Location: shell edge somewhere
Situation: impromptu partay
Warnings/Rating: warn in individual threads, if necessary
This is a party. Kara had the idea and Nita managed the execution. With some Green Lantern help (the universe's most powerful weapon? great for transporting buffet tables and tiki torches) a section of "beach" has been set up with snacks, a surprisingly good bar, deck chairs, and various pool toys--where Nita came by an inflatable horsey ring is anyone's guess.
As it gets closer to evening, the grill is lit and heartier foods are available, though the selection runs rather heavily to fish, since the ocean is right there and nothing can outswim either of your hostesses. That said, you owe it to yourself to try the grilled pineapple.
Anyway, you know what to do.
[OOC: Roll your own threadstarters, and remember to mark if it's open or closed!]

B!
Hey. Sorry about the lack of green bikini. I couldn't get hold of one at short notice but maybe next time.

[She points her tongs at the grill.]
Want anything?
no subject
[ He looks at what she's cooking. ] Uh... could I get some of that grilled pineapple, please?
no subject
[Nita can fly and is a huge social butterfly, so there aren't many Foreigners she hasn't at least passed on the streets.
She sets down the tongs and grabs one of the skewers of fruit she has keeping warm on the upper rack. Given how little arable land there is on Tu Vishan, Keeliai doesn't have a lot in the way of disposable paper goods, so the plates are some kind of light, hammered metal.]
It's actually good with hot sauce, believe it or not.
[Which is not just Nita's questionable fish-person taste talking.]

[ Scott eyes the metal plate curiously, not used to eating off plates made of that material, until the mention of hot sauce has him looking at her in somewhat disbelief. ]
Hot sauce and pineapple. [ He wouldn't have thought those two things would taste good together. ] I guess I won't believe it until I try. [ Here's hoping she isn't tricking him into trying am actually gross combination. ]

[He's not imagining that her cheerfulness turns a bit brittle there. It's been a long time, and even her unsinkable optimism gets a little deflated sometimes.
Pineapple is a much safer subject.]
Hey, look, I come from a place where one of the usual appetizers is jellyfish salad, so I'm not necessarily the go-to person on food for surface dwellers...but I'm also not the only one who likes this combo.
[She just does not understand why other people don't like sea prunes.]
no subject
I didn't think jellyfish was edible... Surface dwellers?
no subject
People who live on land.
[Nita is so used to giving this speech, and she turns her head, flaring her gills with an act of will the way someone might wrinkle up their nose.]
I'm amphibious.

[Yet she talks like a middle-aged comic book writer's idea of what a teenager in the early 90s sounded like.]
The weird part is that I can breathe on land.

[Everyone is from lousy universes as far as she's concerned.]

Which do you prefer, land or underwater?
