[OPEN] It's like using K'NEX. Sort of.
Characters: Tony Stark and anyone else!
Location: Metal Sector, at a small kedan-owned building.
Situation: Repulsor Event. Tony wants to build a repulsor-powered generator. Building is easy, it's everything else that could go wrong.
Warnings/Rating: None, but will update if that changes.
Note: This is backed to occur over the course of September 6th through the 11th. Anyone can contribute or just drop by.
Stage One
The general survey of the site occurs on the 6th. It's an all-day affair, mostly consisting of Tony flying around and badgering anyone who was unfortunate enough to volunteer for gopher work or general construction with questions on what they can and can't do to connect an auxiliary power source to the building. From that point on, he spends his timing working to collect the appropriate materials and funds for the project to get things underway. Donations are accepted, of course, but if those with the means want to, the site is always open for them to come see what disaster he's putting their money toward.
Stage Two
By the 8th, construction is underway. Residents of the Metal Sector are greeted by the early morning serenade of construction work. The likelihood of Tony using his suit powers for some of the welding are high. At least heavy machinery isn't part of the process. Although the building itself is enough to make a racket. Visible changes are confined to a particular street to one end of the Metal Sector, but it's enough to block the road for anyone making their way to a favorite restaurant or across Keeliai for a marathon. People who aren't builders are welcome to watch or lend a hand. And if a few accidents happen along the way, maybe break up some arguments. With comics technology involved, sometimes it's hard to determine just where that piece ought to go. Please do not deposit your wrench in your neighbor's face. Or the adjacent wall of the building. Someone lives there.
Stage Three
Work continues through the ninth and all night on the tenth for anyone reckless enough to work through it (Tony is, of course). It might keep some people up. But there is coffee, so at least that's something? The 11th is when the "fun part" occurs. The generator is completed, checked, and--after one more check--powered up.
...Of course, they can't tell if it will work without Asti's power, so Tony has the brilliant solution to see if he can crank up the energy levels and make a difference in that area. Anyone on site the evening of the 11th or who happen to be passing through the Metal Sector at that time will be given a fun display of a building lighting up like a beacon and then blowing out every bulb it has. The fun of repulsor tech is that it can exceed limits without just shorting out the thing it powers--although it's not going to be repeated.
[OOC: This is a log for anyone who would be interested in joining the repulsor building project or who wants to drop by during the process to complain/ offer advice/ interact with others. Threading is open to any style and you can put up a new thread for anything you want to do on the project. Construction, destruction, staring at the light show at the end, lodging complaints, or anything else. Just put the date(s) your character is there in the header of new comments.
Project volunteers: I'll put a comment below for any characters who want to participate in the project. Volunteer work can include anything, from funding to building to moral support or on-site-runner assistance. If you could, please leave a comment with your character's name in the header and their contributions if you would like them listed as project staff. I say staff, but this is really a volunteer effort.
Other information can be found here in this OOC post. You can ping me or respond there if you have questions or thoughts on this.]

There's also her physical strength if there's a use for it.
And let's not forget that all important cooking factor, she could supply an army with whimsical donuts, breakfast of champions! People must eat!]

All-in-all, general labour with some skilled applications; good at working with others.

and a killer sense of fashion. )

friendshiphelp with logistics, managing supplies, making sure they have the authorization they need on everything, keeping everything on track... You know, that practical stuff that keeps scientifically genius projects from collapsing by the start of the second day.One day he's going to learn how to avoid this kind of work, but today, Friendship has called.]

He was also collecting that strange metal that was present in Sinbrilee, and wouldn't mind donating that to the cause if Tony's interested in it.]

DCU engineering knowledgeinsights and actual engineering and precision work, as needed. His hands are small and steady. He probably has less brute-force strength than an adult, but he's fast and agile, so. He can help.Downsides: he's all over the place busy. AND may be spying for WE. >.>
Jackson "Jax" Teller | Stage Two
Generator build, huh? Seems otherworldly, but then again... Some guy's flying around in a suit and that's pretty crack on its own, so he puts it to the back of his mind and works.
Labour's good for him. Helps him ignore the shit that's been falling on his shoulders and the fact that there ain't no sign or recognition of SAMCRO about here. The tattoo what sprawls over his back ain't getting the respect it usually does, what with no one knowing the reaper. It's weird. Too weird. A lifetime of being surrounded and supported by the Sons never much prepared him for riding solo.
Jax doesn't spend much time working solo, at least. He welcomes what help'll come his way and takes breaks with the crews. He thanks anyone what brings him refreshment and lends a hand to whoever needs it.
In short, he's no glittering gold, but he's here and working. Come on down and lend him a hand shifting these supplies? How about take a breather and sit next to him on a crudely constructed bench? Maybe even catch a towel he tosses your way when it's time to step back and let the weld scans take place?]
no subject
This project? It's smart, it's got promise. And he's interested in the technology, even though he stays close-lipped on his own. He drifts between crews, helping out and moving on when they take breaks. He buys a baker's dozen of pork buns before he heads to the next site, and for the time being it's just him and the big blonde guy over there, so Jim holds the bag aloft in a universal question of want one?]
no subject
Jax nods his head at the offer, even lays down his tools a second to turn towards this new guy and hold his hands out, ready to catch the football -- and by that, he means food-ball.]
Sure, man, toss one over.
[Said with half a grin as he takes a few steps closer. Yeah, food. Food always sounds good.]
no subject
[Jim tosses one in an easy underhand. It's not the throw of someone who's looking to have anybody scrape their meal off the floor.]
no subject
That'd be a cold, cruel day. [A chuckle as he flips the bun in his hand.] You can be damn sure I'd pop myself good before I'd live in that kinda hell.
[Jax takes a bite. It's different -- all oriental in make and it ain't ever beating a good ol' burger -- but it hits the spot.]
What're the chances you've got a beer hidden your sleeve?
[Because that'd just make this real.]
no subject
[There's a sawhorse nearby, and Jim hops up on the plank that's between the trestles for sawing to eat a bun of his own. Then he tilts his head.]
Lemme guess, American. California?
[That accent's hard to mistake, even with a time gap of what Jim's guessing at a few hundred years.]
no subject
How much time've you spent in those parts?
[Checking to see if he's got a fellow, dunno. Modern type, normal type. Whichever.]
no subject
[He chews a corner off one of those buns. They're fresh, so the filling is hot and steam rises in the air. He lets it cool before he tries again.]
Grew up in Iowa, though. The land of cows and corn.
Tony Stark (616) | All stages of this process
[Tony can be found primarily in his Iron Man armor throughout the building project. It's hard to miss him if anyone wants to find out what is going on or offer their input. He does a fair amount of direct construction work, because he wants to be involved with the physical effort. So anyone who happens to be around will likely be able to run into him at some point.
By stage two, he's pretty much bouncing all over the site. This might potentially rub some people the wrong way. Welcome to working with Tony Stark. Someone should probably put some brakes on this "great idea" before it careens out of control. He's starting to talk upgrades.]
Stage 3
[We survived!
Nobody look shocked.Everyone has earned a cookie and the generator is complete. Tony is there to run the final test, which goes well until he decides they need to see how much power it takes to make a change in the current flow from Asti. He does some adjusting to the generator, letting the repulsor increase strength. There's a slowly growing glow as the lights of the test building respond to the energy. Pretty soon all of the windows are lit up like a lighthouse beacon. And then they all go out at once, leaving one Tony Stark standing there with a bemused smile.]Oh. So that's the limit. Well, now we know?
Stage 1
But he pauses for a second in front of a resistor as tall as he is and jerks his thumb towards it, asking no one in particular.]
Is this a grid resistor? What's it made of? [Tony, he is touching your toys so much he is practically climbing it.] Is this tantalum? Do they have tantalum on the turtle? Come to think of it - where do they get metal? It's not like they can mine a turtle.
no subject
[Probably not the best resources for their desired outcome, but that's okay for now. He's having fun. Which is totally why he's poking around at everything. Bart just happens to be the unfortunate bystander of Tony's ]
At least they have something. I was worried we would be stuck trying to reuse the metal from the buildings.
no subject
He pauses just before actually meeting the metal filaments of both wires and looks up at Tony.]
You ever find yourself in the middle of a cliche and you cannot think of a single good quote for the occasion? I know I've seen people connect wires dramatically in a million different things. And I can't name a single one of those things right now. This is totally performance anxiety. You cop to not knowing where the metal is or possibly what the metal is and definitely that it's not ideal, and I start wondering how fast I can clear everyone from the building and how far is clear and I - I probably shouldn't be sitting on this when I connect these wires.
no subject
Are you scared? It's metal. It reacts like metal, and so far the metal that we've been working with has been normal enough. But we're living on the back of a giant turtle, existing off of its energy, and just in case that's not weird enough for you, we're possibly stuck between reality somehow. I'd say the current is the least of our problems right now. Besides, I know what I'm doing. It's my thing.
But you probably shouldn't sit there, no.
shockwave | all stages
( beyond a general longing for the use of one's own body instead of a holographic projection, watching the others work on the construction was the first time shockwave truly wished for the chance to ditch the holoavatar and offer what assistance was possible as thirty feet of metal and advanced technology. orion would have frowned on exposing themselves so carelessly, however, after all the work he'd put into creating a cover story that both hoped was believable.
so stuck as masquerading as a human it was, although shockwave doesn't stand still. instead there's double checking of the blueprints, directing others, and generally attempting to do what work one can.
for most of the first day, however, shockwave can be found pouring over the blueprints and technical aspects of the generator project. occasionally making a few remarks on what could be improved next time or asking for further clarification on a specifically human aspect of the design. the fact shockwave is doing so while dressed in clothes not exactly suited for construction - a white blouse, a knee length pleated skirt in deep blue with matching vest, and white knee-high boots - is probably noticeable but not unusual. well, at least not unusual for shockwave. )
iii
( it's been a success in most regards, after grasping the way the technology works and the differences in construction and application from the technology shockwave is more familiar with. the lack of energon isn't a new development, but shockwave was very interested in what other cultures used instead and if there was any chance of applying it to cybertronian technology.
at least until tony blew out the lights. )
Well that's certainly one way to go about this.
( said cheerfully, with the usual smile even though there's not any light for anyone to see it by.
but after someone's found a temporary light, anyone keeping a sharp eye on shockwave might notice that despite working without a break for all three days and not touching any food or drink, shockwave shows no signs of fatigue or hunger. )
Angel | Stage 2
Lost in her wandering for half the day, the brunette found her attention abruptly taken over by the near deafening sounds of construction work. Here was something she had at least some experience with, thanks to her father building the glass room around her. But this was nothing like that operation had been and so she found herself standing at the edge of the site, watching people running back and forth.
