Characters: Kyle & you unfortunate souls.
Date: During the mis-spell event.
Location: Everywhere.
Situation: Kyle is seven and the most powerful weapon in the universe still answers to him. Watch out, world.

'You here to help, or you gonna call the cops?'

It's a challenge, and he tiptoes, to make himself taller.

[starcharter]

That's really adorable. Chekov tries not to laugh.

"I can help, but I am not as good at art as you are."

[imaginate]

He picks up some of the paintbrushes and shoves them at Chekov, pointing to the wall. 'I'll draw the outline, you fill in the colour! Make sure you press evenly or it won't look nice at all.'

[starcharter]

He takes the paintbrushes, amused.

"Aye, aye. Which colors go where? Or do I get to decide?"

He'll be sure to avoid the yellow.

[imaginate]

'I've got blue, red, and,' he squints. 'I think this is too much grey. Put more black in it. You can pick, just make it pretty.'

[starcharter]

Crisp, cheerful nod.

"I will try my best."

He adds more black to the indicated paint before painting an already-outlined area with bright blue.

"I think this might count as graffiti, as pretty as it is."

[imaginate]

'Graffiti's art, don't let 'em tell you otherwise!'

Sagely, he nods, flicking red everywhere. Shh, it's all planned and part of the show.

[starcharter]

Chekov laughs brightly, switching from blue to red.

"I won't. I would ask you to paint my suite but I don't think it would work. Too much metal."

He starts mixing colors, turning the red and blue into purple and painting in swirls like he's trying to paint a galaxy.

[imaginate]

'We can get special paint,' he says, ringing up a stool to stand on so he can get a better look at what Chekov's doing. 'Lady, you're not bad at this. Ever considered being an artist?'

[starcharter]

"No, actually. Nobody really complimented my art before. Then again, I think they saved the compliments for my transwarp theories."

Adding in little blue highlights on the galaxy he's painting.

[imaginate]

Transwarp theories? Wait just a second. Kyle stares. Really stares.

'Pavel?' he squeaks.

[starcharter]

He's resisting the urge to lau-- wait, no he's laughing.

"You are not the only person who woke up looking different."

[imaginate]

'I don't look any different!' he says, indignantly. 'I'm just smaller. You're a girl!'

[starcharter]

"I have noticed. But at least this is my body."

He's seen other people who weren't so lucky.

[imaginate]

He straightens and looks over Chekov, and then at himself. Quite true. He'd be panicking if somebody else was wielding the power ring.

'You're pretty,' he admits, grudgingly.

[starcharter]

"Why thank you. And you're adorable. Were you so mischievous as a child?"

At least Chekov didn't try to ruffle Kyle's hair.

[imaginate]

He looks at the wall, now extremely colourful, and possibly extremely permanent, and tilts his head at it. What do you think?

[starcharter]

Chekov raises an eyebrow. Point taken.

"When I was young, I thought sneaking into the science lab after dark was rebellious."

He leans back, examining their work. "At least your mischievousness has a colorful outlet."

[imaginate]

'It is!' He looks up, studying Chekov intently. 'It's breaking the rules!'

[starcharter]

"True. Nobody seemed to mind, though. But I also did not get caught."

Mischievous grin. Chekov might be find obeying orders, but rules are entirely different.

And laws. He's broken some of those. Hacking is still a little illegal in the future.

"If I think too much about it, I have broken a lot of rules. Perhaps I am a bad example."

[imaginate]

'Don't let Kirk hear that,' he says, cheekily. He finds the mental image of the good ensign a little funnier now. Breaking the rules was also different from getting caught, but Kyle had become a stickler for them (though, only when they suited him).

[starcharter]

Chekov's mischievous grin grows wider.

"The Captain already knows." Who has two thumbs and helped Kirk hack the Kobayashi Maru? This guy. Girl. Whatever.

"I follow orders, but rules? Some of them are very stupid."

[imaginate]

'They are,' he agrees. 'Like the one that says you can't draw on walls.'

And off he goes, intent on continuing his quest to beautify the city.
