[Victor just sighs at that reaction. He doesn't buy it at all but he doesn't press right now.]

The canals probably aren't the best place to try to catch a nap. [A little attempt at humor.] I know a pretty good place to catch one in the sun though.

[It takes Percy a second or two to register that as a joke; he bristles at the perceived advice, before it actually processes properly] Oh. [Humour. Right] Yeah, you're actually kind of right. The fish don't shut up.

Are they always bragging about how they're so much better than us land-dwellers at swimming?

Food, usually. And they're really bad gossips. Which can either be funny or confusing, because they don't always understand exactly what they've seen. [He seems a little more at ease, now that the conversation has shifted away from him specifically. It's also worth noting that despite the fact that he's in the water, he's completely dry] Anyway, what are you doing in the Water Sector?

Fish gossip? That sounds like it should be a website. 'Funny things fish say'. [Victor grins at the question and tugs slightly on the tool belt he's got on.] Just finished some work and decided to walk for a bit.

[Percy laughs, but his heart isn't really in the sound] Someone else'd have to take care of it. Demigods and tech don't really mix. [He gestures around him] Technically this is my job. Helping keep them clean. You're a builder, right?

Are you sure it's not just water doesn't mix with tech? [Just a light tease.] You keep the canals clean? Just swim through and pick up things that shouldn't be in there? [He's curious.] Sort of. I build things, repair things, paint things...general handyman type stuff.

No, it's - monsters smell technology. [His expression darkens, and it's pretty clear he missed the joke] Or something like that. You don't use anything with a signal unless you're prepared to fight for your life.

[He rubs the back of his neck] Yeah, that's basically it. Blast the gunge off the walls and stuff, too. Make sure the fish are doing okay, that kind of thing. [Trying for another smile] That's really good. I mean, with the rate things get destroyed around this place? People who know how to fix things have to be in high demand.

They smell technology? That just sounds pretty messed up. [He shakes his head at that but offers no other comment.]

Does a lot of gunge build up? [He's never noticed any so he's assuming that means Percy is really good at his job.] Yeah, I keep busy thanks to the things that go along here. Doors, chairs, walls, windows, tables...we manage to break a lot of stuff.

[kelpful]

[Percy snorts] Yeah, pretty much everything about my world is messed up.

[He shrugs] I dunno, I just sort of go over everything anyway. It's something to keep busy, you know? I like being in the water. [He makes a face] I bet that's doing great things for kedan-Foreigner relations.

I'm pretty sure we've both got messed up parts of our worlds.

Yeah, keeping busy is important. It's part of why I'm glad to have a job. Don't want to die of boredom. [Vic nods a little.] It probably doesn't help but thankfully most of the stuff that we've broken lately has been our own. At least out of the stuff I've been fixing.
