[Open] A whole new world...
Characters: Calypso and you~
Date: 11/2
Location: All over~
Situation: Calypso has just arrived and is learning her way around... And trying not to be too overwhelmed by all the people omg.
Warnings/Rating: No warnings as of yet.
It wasn’t Ogygia. She was thankful for that, at the very least. Another island lost in time, albeit a little different, wasn’t so strange to her. It might be on a turtle’s back, yes. It might be in a civilization that has her positively overwhelmed, sure. But the fact of the matter was, she was off Ogygia by some strange miracle, and had the chance to interact with everyone…. Not only injured heroes that would eventually leave her without a second thought.
Did they ever have a second thought when they returned to their homes? She couldn’t tell, not with her magic being so limited that she could only see the past. Even if they did give her another passing thought, though, it would not change anything. They couldn’t return to her so what did it really matter?
No, here she would have the chance to befriend more than those who would just leave her. She had the chance to live, despite the learning curve she might have. Tugging her shawl closer around her shoulders, Calypso started to weave her way through the market, pausing to look at the offered goods every so often, smiling at those who smiled at her and brightening at every passing comment. It wouldn’t be so bad here, not really. She could find a job, make friends… Do everything that the Gods had denied her back home.
Do what the Gods themselves did, live amongst and near the mortals. A basic right that they denied her thousands of years and continued to deny her. After all, what did it matter that the young Titan girl was still stranded on her island when the Gods, all high and mighty, had problems of their own to deal with? Who would even notice?

That thought had him tugging at his new gloves, making sure they were pulled up high still. No accidents in a crowded place like this. It couldn't happen, and he couldn't allow it.
It was then that he felt it, a rush of emotions from one source in particular. He glanced up, picking her out of the crowd easily enough. For a moment, he could have almost thought it was Emma. But that was a delusion he couldn't afford to have. Not now.
"Lost?"
no subject
And spoke.
For a moment, there was a flicker of a relieved smile on her lips before she withdrew and remained carefully neutral. "That would imply I know where I want to go... So, no. Merely meandering."
no subject
no subject
She'd have to work on that. She already felt she stuck out like a sore thumb.
no subject
He smiled for real this time, letting the expression remain on his face. "I'm new here myself. I just recognized the look."
no subject
She was becoming a little more comfortable with his admission that he was new as well, but she still pulled back after a few moments. "How long have you been here?"
no subject
He could pick up her feelings, that brush with ease before pulling back. His head tilted a bit as he looked her over again. She was guarded, like she didn't really want to be comfortable with people. Definitely something he could relate to, in any case. "A week or so. Not really that long."
no subject
That's why the Gods didn't bother holding true to their promises. She was of more use on her island, away from everyone, than she was with them. "Still... That's a week longer than myself."
no subject
It wasn't a lie, and he didn't have to treat it like one, but he did put emphasis on it. War needed everyone to be involved.
"True, but I'm sure you'll know just about as much as I do soon."
no subject
Was it possible the Gods thought of her this way too? That's why she had remained on her island for so long, they found her valuable? Hardly likely. She fought the smile on her lips, but couldn't keep it at bay as she turned her gaze away. "Thank you. I do hope you're correct... I... didn't catch your name?"
no subject
He shifted a bit. "Didn't give it. I'm Jonah."
no subject
And for the first time since arriving, her anxiety was starting to ebb away.
no subject
Jonah cocked his head to the side. "Calypso?" The name was familiar. "Good name. Very Greek myth of your parents."
no subject
She laughed a little, attempting to make it into a joke."
no subject
"Are you her?"
no subject
She didn't answer him right away, as though debating whether he'd believe her or not. Then, slowly, she nodded. "I'd be that one... Yes. As... Strange as it may sound, I'm certain."
no subject
"You're younger than I expected."
Herp. Derp.
no subject
She laughed quietly, hiding behind her hand. "Thank you....? I think?"
no subject
"You're welcome. That... Came out wrong. I've never, you know, met myths before. Or realities? It's a little... weird."
no subject
Not that she'd, you know, know how someone would react... Given she's only ever had a handful of heroes on her island and they're already used to the whole 'Gods not being just myths' thing.
no subject
It makes sense in a way. Maybe not in his own version of Earth, but someone else's? Yeah, why not.
no subject
Calypso raises an eyebrow at that, smiling just a little bit more. "If I might ask... How so?"

It's a slow afternoon, so Leo's decided to hop on his hoverboard and pay a visit to Vanessa. He's even bought some cake from a nearby tea shop, set in a pretty little green box and embellished with ribbons. He's been doing a great job at only almost blowing off the hats of kedan and foreigner alike, whizzing past their heads with a stupid grin on his face and the wind ruffling up his already untamed curls even more.
And then some punk rudely decides to throw an orange at him. He evades it pretty easily, glancing over his shoulder to stick his tongue out. He then faces forward again.
And finds himself zipping straight at Calypso. Wide-eyed, he gasps and yells "Hey! Watch out!" and makes a sharp turn, but the force sends him spiralling out of control. The gust of wind from the turn blasts at Calypso, more than likely ruining her hair and outfit.
And that shawl around her shoulders? The tip of the shawl gets caught in the hoverboard and joins the whole crashing-onto-the-muddy-ground party he's sort of got going on in here. Hope that wasn't her favorite.
no subject
Calypso was caught off guard, mostly by the voice that called out to her-- It couldn't be. The gust of wind hardly ruffled her feathers, even if it had messed up her hair and wrinkled her gown slightly... She had been intent on holding onto the shawl, it had been acting as her security blanket after all. So she stumbled forward a few steps with it before letting go and allowing it its muddy fate.
"Would you pay attention to where you're going?" she snapped, brow furrowing as she crossed her arms. Well, that is until she saw who it was. "Leo Valdez! Only you have a knack for crashing into things constantly! I should have known it was you!"
She threw her arms into the air exasperatedly and groaned, too preoccupied with being annoyed to realize that yes. That was Leo right in front of her. No, that realization would come later.
no subject
He lay still for a while, trying to feel for his arms and legs. When he found that he could wriggle all ten digits just fine, he pushed himself slowly back up, wincing visibly as pain stabbed through several points in his body.
He glanced at his hoverboard first—no severe damage, from a quick survey of his eye, which was sweet—then to the box—its lid had flown open and the pink icing and fluffy sponge cake was strewn across the muddy ground—not cool at all—then to the girl who was yelling at him for some weird reason.
Okay okay, to be fair, he almost crashed into her; that seemed reason enough to get pissed off. But seriously, wasn't she kind of taking this a little too personal? And who in Asti's butt was she, anyway?
"Uh, yeah, I'm Leo Valdez, and I'm completely fine, thanks for asking. Now am I supposed to know you, or are you just one of those girls who just go like," and he raised his voice to a falsetto, "'Oh, I'm sooo pretty and sooo popular so of course every single guy in this tiny island knows my name! It's not like they have anything better to do than to whisper my name longingly every waking and dreaming moment of their lives, after all!'"
no subject
She turned her gaze up, knowing very well they couldn't hear her and she would come off insane. "Are you laughing now, Zeus? You should be, this is hilarious, isn't it?"
But then it sank in. He didn't know who she was. Turning her gaze back to Leo, she sobered as her brows furrowed. "That's not funny, Leo..." Because he had to remember her.
no subject
In retrospect, he might have been better off doing more running the Hades away from this chick and less staring at her all goldfish-like, but before he could actually bow out, her expression changed and he felt a pang in his gut that he couldn't identify or explain.
So he gave her an uncertain look, before he forced his features to relax and grinned, because turning this into a joke was easier than having to face his weird feelings. "Why, because I'm not a god?"
no subject
She trailed off, fingers gripping her muddied shawl as she considered just walking the other way. It was better that he didn't remember her, wasn't it? That she wouldn't have to give a damn about him or his being here. She could live her life without reminders of the past... "You don't remember me."
This time it was not a question and more of a realization. A sullen realization.
no subject
But then his eyes drifted to the muddied shawl in her hands and despite everything, he found himself feeling guilty about it, as well as the whole, you know, almost batting her head off with his hoverboard. So his brows knotted together in concentration as he stared at her, trying to put a name to the—admittedly pretty—face.
After a few seconds, he frowned and shook his head. "No. Should I?" Although, she did mention Zeus, so... "Are you from camp?"
no subject
And while determining if she should bother reminding him, the messed cake caught her eye for the first time. She glanced from it, back up to him and sighed. "I'm sorry about your dessert, by the way... I can't imagine it would taste too good now."
no subject
Normally he would turn up his jerk-o-meter, but the girl looked so genuinely sad that he didn't recognize her, and despite how annoying and slightly weird she had been initially he couldn't help but feel a little guilty. It was like he was missing something really important but couldn't for the life of him pinpoint what it was. So he waved a hand in dismissal and said, "No biggie, though; I can just get her a new one."
He paused then, glancing back at her and squinting a bit. "If you're not from camp, then where are you from?"
no subject
Oh how the gods loved to torment her. The word was like a knife to her gut, wrenching painfully. She wouldn't let him see her upset, though. So she quickly steeled her face and glanced away. "I don't think messed up cake goes over well with girlfriends. That's probably a good idea."
And then he asked where she was from. "An island called Ogygia.... I'm Calypso."
no subject
And really, was he supposed to know who she was? He was beginning to feel like that geeky new guy who didn't know who all the pretty, popular girls were and was getting flack for it.
no subject
She didn't mean to be short with him. She really didn't. What was she expecting, anyways? That she'd show up to some strange land, he would be there and he'd remember everything? She was doing her best to not get her hopes up, honestly. This was typical, after all. "I'm sorry to have troubled you, if you wanted to get back to visiting your girlfriend, you're more than welcome to."
She'd just continue on her way and forget that yet another hero, one that had sworn to be different than all the last, had forgotten her.
no subject
And then he shrugged, hopping on his hoverboard. "But whatever. You're right; I better get going now." The hoverboard lifted off the ground and he floated in mid-air for a while before adding, a little teasingly, "And you know, you'll probably make friends quicker if you smile a little more, Miss I'm-too-high-and-mighty-for-cheerfulness."
no subject
Too high and mighty to smile? Did he think she enjoyed her pain and suffering??? She would not cry... Those were definitely not tears rolling down her cheeks as her fingers balled into fists. Easier than having to continue to deal with this, she turned on her heel and started storming off in the opposite direction.
