The check in brought his tension down a notch, and by the time Hayley shows up, Bruce is outwardly calm enough that an observer would never guess he had something to preoccupy him. Staying calm is often his best defense, and he employs it now, keeping his wondering to a minimum. When he goes to let her in, he has no clue that her thoughts so closely mirror his own at other times-- that he has to tell his secrets because it's unfair to endanger others unknowingly. That's been his motivation so often when telling others about the Hulk. It'd been his motivation when he told her.

Bruce nods her in, glancing behind her with sharp attentiveness. The shades are already drawn in his apartment, and he's quick and casual to close the door. All of his old instincts have immediately cropped up all at once, pulled to the fore at the slightest provocation.

"Alright?" he asks, more of a status check of the situation than asking if she's okay. He assumes she doesn't want to be asked the latter.

She's still wound up, obviously. It emphasizes her age to him, where sometimes he can nearly forget when they're speaking only by voice on the consoles. But to him it reads as young, nervous, unsure how to handle an unexpected crisis. He hasn't been like that in a long time, isn't sure he's ever really had the luxury to be antsy.

Conversely, he settles even further, seemingly unaffected by her nerves. "I have it hidden," he answers, assuming that's what she's asking for. That'd be his priority, anyway. "Let's just take a seat." Bruce walks toward the couch to do just that, gait even. "How about you start from the beginning," he says.

Let me know if this works acceptably.

Approaching Hayley over the matter of her attack on his son was not Jor-El's priority. Ensuring that Kal-El would recover fully was, even as he took care that visiting his and Lois' suite did not expose Kal-El further. Confronting her over the matter could wait, and it did.

When he finally decided to speak to her her, a few days had already passed. He did not inform Kal-El; that, if he decided to do so at all, he would do later. Now was the time for him to recover, rather than be concerned for others. Finding her when she would be available to speak to was difficult, though he had anticipated it would be the case.

The science division had its own building, which meant he rarely ventured into the main building, but there were times where it was required.

Finding Hayley here was incidental. "Hayley." He inclined his head lightly as he acknowledged her presence. His voice was even, gentle.

He kept the distance she had decided upon, rather than approaching and closing the space between them. "When you have the opportunity, I would like to speak to you in private."

A public setting like this was not appropriate under the circumstances.

"I have no intention of harming you, Hayley." It was a truthful statement, even after what her actions had done. Violence and revenge would do nothing but scare the girl further, even had he any interest in pursuing either. There was something important missing in why she had felt the need to attack Kal-El, in what rationale Kal-El had said she provided when he had asked.

"A corridor is too public a setting for what I wish to discuss with you."

The closed off nature of his body language and expressions hardly helped, it being much more reserved than that of the kedan or humans here.

The fact that she agreed to speak to him would make this easier. While time could aid in it, there was no guarantee, especially since this had built up since Hayley had been killed in the first place. "If you have the time, yes."

His time was his own, due to the particular arrangement and set up for the science division. What time he lost now could and would be easily made up at a later point.

"Is there anywhere you would feel comfortable for us to discuss this at?" He asks as he begins to walk. While this building would not be private enough, he was open to holding this conversation somewhere she would prefer.

"I have no intention of doing so," he reiterates, as they begin their way to her suite. "Regardless of what you may think." The concept of murder until her death had still been only that; an idea.

Even now, having been exposed to it as more than a concept, the act was one he would not personally consider.

He doesn't explicitly intend to placate her; he thinks her distress has a real and understandable source. But his instinct is ever to deescalate, to bring the tension down and return to a ruthlessly practical way of looking at potential solutions. It won't do Hayley any favors, in his mind, if he treats her crises less seriously than he treats his own.

Bruce leans against the arm of the couch rather than sit when he sees that she isn't going to, and the surprise is clear in the lines of his posture when she finally clarifies. "Superman?" he repeats, vaguely incredulous. "Why would you-- that's dangerous. Absurdly dangerous. Even if he did-- wait. What do you mean, after his powers killed people?"

Somehow he hasn't been informed of this tidbit yet, and finally, at last, some of that dark dissatisfaction, simmering anger, is visibly lurking in his bearing. Bruce is quick. He has a suspicion about who's deaths she's referring to if she was worked up enough about it to attack someone practically invincible, and he doesn't want to believe that he could've missed a piece of information so critical.

He notices her locking the door, something that, if she still has the kryptonite in her possession, he will have to keep in mind, though nothing indicates that it may still be the case.

He doesn't waste time with his request after her question. With as serious as the matter is, delaying would only be misleading, something which isn't needed. "I would like to hear from you the reasons you attacked Kal-El." Even as he says it, there are no accusatory tones to his voice, no anger.

The sigh doesn't escape his notice. "He has yet to recover," Jor-El responds, mildly, "and what he had to say is tempered by that." He also had no intent in pressing Kal-El further with questions than he had already.

"I would prefer to hear it from you."

"There are many things we think are the correct course of action. It does not mean they actually are, Hayley."

He had seen the negatives of extremism and violence- even as he subscribed to ideas that acting on were illegal and unthought of in Kryptonian society, he was still a product of its culture, one which was conservative, focused on preserving itself above all else. Zod's extremism did nothing to help their people, started as it was in violence. "What did you hope to achieve with your actions?"
