I'm not close I'm not safe

Characters: Kaine and OPEN
Date: December 23rd
Location: Brazen Turtle; Various
Situation: Kaine has an empty nest. Clearly this means there is something wrong with him as a person.
Warnings/Rating: PG-13 to be safe (Kaine has a filthy mouth)

Option A (Kaine):
[Kaine sat at the bar of Brazen Turtle, staring at his beer. He didn't know why he was as bothered by Peter leaving as he was. After all, how many times had he threatened to kick Peter out? He didn't even particularly like the smaller version of Peter Parker. All his presence did was remind him that there were more idealistic idiots out there than even the Peter he was familiar with. The kid was nothing but a nuisance, constantly butting into his business and forcing him to do things he didn't want to do. How could this kid, this boy who didn't know the first thing about him (by design), mean anything to him?

He had spent his entire life alone; he had always preferred that to the company of anyone. There was no one in the world--in the universe, he supposed--that was like him. They all had souls and families and relationships. He was a human shell hiding a monster within a monster. Miles Warren, his father, had put him on his destructive path by creating him, but Kaine was fully aware that he was the instrument of his own destruction. His own actions through the years had insured that he could never join society the way that Ben had tried, no matter what he did in an attempt to atone. Kaine knew this... he embraced it. So why was it bothering him now, all thanks to a kid he didn't particularly like?

Aracely. Peter reminded him of Aracely. That was the only thing he could think of. And he didn't particularly like her either. She was just someone who needed help, and he was the unlucky sap who got saddled with her. If he had left her, she would have just gotten killed... in any of those times he had gone back to save her. She was just a child. She deserved a second chance. Peter deserved a second chance.

Kaine downed the rest of his drink, knowing full well that it will probably come to bite him in his low tolerant ass later.
]

Option B (Scarlet Spider):
[Kaine needed something to punch. It didn't matter what or who, so long as it had a face that he could connect with his fist. He had no recollection of putting the costume on, or leaving his suite for that matter, only swinging through the air throughout Keeliai, looking for someone relatively out of place. He was a man on a mission, one who wouldn't be satisfied until he was able to take his frustration out on someone who looked like they might deserve it, preferably someone of the criminal persuasion.]

[He's got a point but she doesn't actually care. She gives a little shrug of her head.] Can't live in this world without having a little bit of hypocrite in you. But at least I know it. And I'd rather work for a government that knows it's corrupt but trying to do the right thing, instead of the group that still thinks it's not and refuses to look past its own nose.

The world is what it is, but that can't see it. I'm not a fan of the blind leading the idealistic.

[She laughs and smacks the bar in a bout of amusement, not that hard really, but the counter shakes just a little.]

You're the first person to ever tell me I give them too much credit. [Usually she has people insisting she's wrong and needs to give them more credit for what they do.] Besides, I wouldn't exist if the government didn't care about doing the "right" thing. Just so happens for them that's protecting the citizens who pay their salaries. A win-win.

[She says it flippantly, a bit of a slip of the tongue almost, to the point she doesn't even notice.]

[Her smile turns into more of a smirk there, a little crooked quirk of her lips.]

Born and bred, you could say. Best way to fight a superhuman is to have your own.

[She isn't sure about the way he asks that question. Is he judging her? She already gets enough people thinking it means she's not a real person or throwing other expectations on her. That was her life for years before showing up in this shitty place.]

Why? You have a problem with that?

[personal profile] funkindofwicked 2014-01-27 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, is that how this is? Is that why she felt like he got it? Because it felt like she'd been talking to someone who understood better than anyone else she's met on this dumb turtle. And now he's talking about degeneration and maybe he's more like the Ultimen who fought to live only to end up going crazy from the molecular instability.]

I don't know how you think this works but that's never been a problem for me. Indestructible genetics. [She pauses momentarily.] I'm guessing things didn't work out so nicely in your world.

[Is he bitter about that? She chugs down the rest of her drink and lets the glass clank on the counter.]

Yeah, well, alien DNA will do that for you. Humans tend to not do so well in the cloning department. Better to stick with what they can't kill.

Wow, that sucks for you. [Seriously that sounds like the most pathetic and screwed up reason to clone someone ever.]

We had superheroes being being turned on us and trying to take over the world. And then another one turned out to really be a traitor spying for her home planet so they could invade. Your world is seriously messed up.

[The look on her face must show how surprised and incredulous she feels because that sounds ridiculous.]

Are you serious? No wonder you think they're all idiots. Ours are organized. Too organized. Like a pack of wolves. And so you get me. I'm there to deal with them when they get out of line because we sure as hell can't trust them.

...Why? What's the point of sitting around doing nothing? Sounds like a pretty boring life.

[She can't comprehend that. Her whole life has been about training, fighting, and preparing for more fighting.]

Talk about a total buzzkill. I thought you said you couldn't drink, not that you couldn't have fun. This place is already so dull I'm surprised I haven't died from it. No one here does anything.

[Of course her idea of doing something involved fighting because she doesn't know anything else but fighting, killing and sex.]

[personal profile] funkindofwicked 2014-01-27 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[She looks him over, eyes doing a blatant appraisal.]

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of things you've never done before. You look like a guy who's been putting up with more than you've been able to enjoy. Life hasn't been so good, but that means you haven't really gotten to live it up.

[She is very deliberate about sliding her empty glass away and turning more in her seat to look at him directly. There's a smirk on her lips and her posture is very easy, inviting.]

I pride myself on thinking outside of the box, if you're interested in trying out a few new things yourself.

[Tea digs some money out and drops it on the counter next to her drink, then slides out of her chair to her feet. She doesn't care about getting the change because money doesn't mean as much to her. As long as she gets what she wants out of it, it's disposable to her.]

Just what I wanted to hear. [She doesn't motion him to follow, since she assumes he'll be doing that already. If he really wants to join her, he'll keep up.] My place is close enough.
