[Miles wasn't there when it hatched, but he felt the wave of psychic emotions get so much stronger all of a sudden, so he ventures over to Water Sector to try to find his "co-parents" and the egg.

He spots Arthur and-- whoa, that's a massive turtle!-- walking about and heads over, grinning.]

Hey! The egg hatched, huh? [Way to state the obvious, Miles.]

[Arthur laughs softly as he watches Miles come up, and the turtle, of course, is just as happy to see him. She seems to adore her 'parents' even more than passerbys, which is quite a feat, since she's knocked over at least three kedan already.]

She has, what a birthday, huh?

Yeah, guess so. [The turtle comes over and Miles pats it on the neck fondly.]

Have you given it a name yet?

[relentlesstide]

I don't think I should be the only one to decide something like that. [His smile softens slightly as he watches the turtle.] Anyway, my wife says I'm terrible at naming things. Any ideas?

It's a girl? [That definitely gives him an idea...]

We could-- I mean, if you don't mind, that is-- we could name her Rio. That was my mom's name.

[relentlesstide]

[He takes note of the phrasing, 'was' my mom's name, and how can he possibly say no to that? Kids have always been Arthur's weakness, his soft spot.]

In... Atlantis, we have certain naming traditions, to name children in honor of relatives or historical figures. A name is very important, to tie one to their history and family, to draw strength from those who came before. How about we call her Rio'era? For your mother, and for my wife. I think in the future, she will need all the strength she can get.

Rio'era? [He mulls it over for a second.] I like it. Is-- is your wife here?

[relentlesstide]

I do too. [He strokes the turtle's head affectionately, not seeming to mind how inadvertently rough she can be just from size alone.] ...No, she isn't. She... left, in October.

[spiderkid]

Oh. [Well that's awkward. Miles turns his attention to the turtle, instead.] So, girl, what do you think about the name Rio'era, huh?

[As usual, a wave of love and contentment blasts out of the newly named turtle. Miles smiles, satisfied.]

Guess she likes it too.

[relentlesstide]

[It is what it is, and he's glad to let the topic drop. Mera isn't something he'll talk much about to just anybody. Instead, he smiles down at the turtle and leans against her shell lightly, a hand on her neck.]

It seems she does.

[spiderkid]

You're really good with her, you know. I can see why she picked you. [Still not quite sure why she picked Miles, but things will work themselves out.]

[relentlesstide]

I understand sea life better than humans most days. [Fish are so much less complicated.] I imagine you'll be just as good with her.

[spiderkid]

Pshht. As if. [Miles has spider powers, not fish/turtle powers.] I still don't know why she decided she wanted me to take care of her.

When she has enough of a vocabulary to answer, you can ask her.

Maybe. [He's still not used to the whole telepathic connection thing, and it would weird him out if it didn't make him feel so... content.]
