[ He beams, all the answer she'll need and holds his hand out for the broom. ]

'Kay. I'll freeze out the dust real quick and be there before they're done.

[parallels]

[She hands over the broom and gives him a playful kiss on the cheek.]

My hero.

Pancakes will be up in twenty.

[wintershepherd]

[ Jack flushed a little, the tint distinctly mauve in colour, then nodded. He was sure he'd be done by then. And true enough once the dust was frozen into the air, raining like little crystal specks to the ground, they swept cleanly away and the spirit put the broom away before heading to the kitchen. ]

All done.

[parallels]

[Clara smiles a little at his flushing before turning and heading down the stairs. Once Jack is done, he'll find her standing over the stove and flipping the cakes.]

Nearly done here too.

Made them sugar free in case Spock wants a few. Hope that's alright.

You can make sugar free pancakes? That's awesome!

[ Not that he personally would seek them out but so long as they taste more or less the same, he has no objection. And honestly, the fact that it makes them edible for Spock seems well worth any flavour discrepancies. ]

[parallels]

I have my mysterious baking ways.

[She flips a few onto a plate and then hands them to Jack. Then puts one on a plate for herself. There's honey and syrup on the table.]

[wintershepherd]

[ Jack carries his plate to the table and seats himself, drawing his legs up to sit with them crossed beneath him and reaches for the syrup. ]

These look amazing, Clara.

[ Already digging into him and yep, teenage boy appetite. ]

[parallels]

[She smiles fondly at him and follows him to the table where she pours a bit of honey and syrup on her single pancake. She eats slowly, especially in comparison to Jack. She just hasn't felt hungry lately.]

[wintershepherd]

[ Meanwhile Jack demolishes half his plate before he pauses, looking over at her. ]

You all right?

[parallels]

Fine! Just a bit exhausted. Haven't had a proper night's sleep in a few days.

[She tries to give him her best reassuring smile.]

[wintershepherd]

I wish I had some dreamsand to give you, or that Sandy was here. He'd help you out with that.

[parallels]

I appreciate the offer but I'll really be fine. Just have to wear myself out and then I'll sleep for nearly a day. You'll have to drag me out of bed.

[wintershepherd]

I've done that before too, whipped up a big storm out over the Baltic or somewhere just to burn off some energy. Then I'd sleep for quite a while. We don't sleep normally, at least, most of us don't.

[parallels]

I don't think I could handle that. Some days I really look forward to just sleeping.

And napping on days when I'm really lucky.

[wintershepherd]

[ Jack grinned, cutting into the second half of his pancakes at a more normal pace this time. ]

So Spock likes these too, huh?

[parallels]

Everyone likes these. Spock, Jim, Kyle. [She rolls her eyes affectionately.] Must be a boy thing.

[wintershepherd]

[ He laughs a little at that, trying to picture the three of them around a table eating pancakes. The image is surprisingly easy to imagine. ]

You're putting me in pretty lofty company there.

[parallels]

You fit right in. All the boys that I'm in charge of.

[wintershepherd]

Is that right? Do I get to wear a fancy hat along with that?

[ He's teasing, he really is. Truthfully, he feels kind of humbled to be "claimed" like that. ]

[parallels]

I think Kyle is in charge of any and all hats and various other forms of headwear. So those questions will have to be directed to him.

[wintershepherd]

[ The fork in Jack's hand droops slightly and there's an odd quality to his voice when he replies. ]

Yeah. I'll... do that.

[parallels]

Bad subject?

[She loves Kyle. But he has his prickly moments,]

[wintershepherd]

[ He offers a kind of one-shouldered shrug, as though to indicate that it could go either way. ]

Depends on the day, I guess.

[parallels]

[Clara reaches out to give him a gentle pat on the arm.]

Don't let it get to you. Not everyone gets along all the time.

[wintershepherd]

[ He gives her a smile, not wanting to drag her down in his mired feelings on the subject and nods. ]

That's right. There's always tomorrow.
