open log for january
Characters: Jason Todd & Red Hood + you
Date: January
Location: ALL AROUND
Situation: Catch all!
Warnings/Rating: Jason Todd warnings—some swearing and some violence.
METAL; roof top reprised
[In his red helmet, cracked a long the sides, a ratty red hoodie that he's not fond of parting with and a green military-grade Kevlar vest, he looks like a walking Christmas Tree. It doesn't do well for camouflage but you work with what you have.
And it doesn't matter what you're wearing when you're lurking on a roof top. He still looks like a suspicious creep, hanging out and looking at possible prey to ambush.]
FIRE; dirtiest job -- jason todd edition
[With the death of the Emperor, you'd expect a bit more riots and more revolutionaries popping up. But it's quiet on the weapons and drugs circuit. No demand, prices goes down. And no matter how much he convinces the locals, they're don't want to start shit while bigger shit is happening (eloquent, so eloquent). Funding's going down for him. Low on funds means a job.
The butcher shop smells like death and despair, but it's funding and he gets free packages of meat every now and then, so swearing and wearing the butcher's apron isn't so bad in the afterthought.
If you happen to be shopping for a steak dinner tonight, you might run across a grumpy young man sitting behind a meat counter or just on the steps of the shop.]

always tiny little loving turtle!!! Where tiny means huge, but, hey.
[ Flat. Damian's tone is absolutely flat. Even though he is almost a tiny bit morbidly amused. ]
Coming from the person whose best guess at the moment is food. That's... rich.
[ He looks away. ]
About - the other Robin.
[ No names in the field. Or whatever. Damian's really not feeling particularly eager to be clever, right now. Or bright. Or whatever. He's just... missing the brother that he shouldn't have known in the first place, not... like this. Ugh. Having to recognize and face the feeling for what it was, rather than bury it underneath anger and aggression? Is one of the least comfortable things Damian's been through. And he could, he probably could, do thing his way, anyway. But he has a responsibility for a creature to whom lies and confusion - let alone his levels of anger - are harmful. ]
[ And that's more important than what Damian wants. ]
[ Plus, recognizing the truth and living up to it would have been what Grayson would have wanted. What the Grayson he still has does want, Damian's pretty sure. ]
[ He can still act a little cross, when he's not right beside Taraja. Especially since... Todd. ]

'The other Robin'. It's weird a mention of someone who's gone can shift the mood so drastically.
For him, it doesn't inspire the same feelings of sadness or funk or whatever that Damian's going through. He doesn't consider them brothers, any of them. Just strangers pulled into a strange man's fantasy of being a giant bat of justice—if you can even call it that.]
Heard he's gone.
[So not sorry.]
Did you loot his place first? Big man's gotta have some protocol for that stuff by now.
[Yes, he remembers the other ones that have been gone. The girl, the boy and now this other Robin. He just knew that Batman looted his when he left.]

[ At the question, the boy's jaw clenches so tight that Jason can probably hear his teeth grating. ]
You really know nothing about me or him, do you. Or Father.
And if you weren't gloating about that, what had you in such a cheerful mood, anyway?

It's unnatural how the kid acts like he's 50 instead of 12, but there's nothing that can be done about that, is there. He'll just pretend he doesn't feel a bit sore about how there's a blunt distance between him and his supposed family.]
Something about seeing you in a pouting mood makes the world seem a bright, better. So, what? Big bro's gone and you're sulking about it. You shouldn't, kid. I'm prove of why you shouldn't.
[Not just because he came back from the dead but because he came back from the dead here. He was gone, and it took them a couple months to bring him back. The other one can't be far off.]

[ On the other hand, it's not like Jason's given said family a reason to try to cross that distance. In fact, he's been rather prickly about keeping it. But the fact that Damian's not trying to hurt him is pretty much admission that he is accepted, let in on this, regardless of what Jason might claim to be, or not to be, to the family. ]
And chances are that he won't remember a thing. You have been here twice before, you know. So has Drake. Grayson - our Grayson - has left and reappeared, too. Brown was here twice. Aside from you recalling your first appearance here - the first, not the second - it's as though one deals with strangers, every time.
[ In all honesty, of course, all Damian's anger is, in fact, turned against himself. For being this weak. For missing people. For letting people matter to him. Jason merely gives him a different focus, for a little while. ]
