EVENT | ALL HALLOWED REDUX - RITUALISM

Characters: Any affected by the ghosting and Losses, their sponsors and nosy observers anyone else who feels like tagging along.
Date: January 11-12
Location: Keeliai
Situation: A moonlight ritual designed to restore lost balance and return Losses and unwanted gains back to a neutral state.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The kedan messengers who had originally brought the information to the various Foreigners who'd been affected will return to those same suites on Friday evening. They will let them know to arrive with their sponsors at a quiet field area just to the south of Palace grounds on Saturday at sundown so that the "cleansing" can begin. They don't need to bring anything to aid in the ritual itself though it's advised that they might consider having a spare change of clothes on hand.

The next evening is bright and clear as though the weather itself wishes success upon this strange endeavor. The Foreigners making their way to the field as instructed by their kedan guides will find a large area cleared of snow, right down to the grass and dozens of round pools constructed of what appear to be interlocking stone blocks, so carefully and precisely arranged that they're able to hold water without leaking despite not using any standard mortar or sealant. Each pool stands about three feet tall and is filled three quarters of the way full of water which shimmers in the moonlight, bearing a very similar sheen that people will remember from the iridescent paint.

Does this bode well? Only time will tell.

OOC Information

See the OOC plotting post for event details and this post for assorted subheaders outlining various parts of the plot. If your character wants to learn more about the rituals or ask Milyn questions, she will be tagging in the Case Studies thread. Otherwise, feel free to use general affected kedan and their respective sponsors under normal rules for players writing NPC interactions. Feel free to start your own thread header if none suit, or make your own logs for various threadings... this is just for a central post for the event. Any questions can be directed HERE. Thank you!

For once, her expression was too busy mirroring his to offer any sense of comfort. The main reason they were here, now, was because something had happened to her to cause her to lose memories. She'd gotten them back, but the fact that they had been so abruptly taken from her in the first place was still unsettling.

"What's left?"

There is certainly a story here that Kaldur does not know or understand for both of the to have such expressions. "Apologies, I should be more careful with my words." Still, this is not the time nor is it his place to ask about it, even if he is curious and concerned at the same time.

"I believe what we have left is one damage and one repair. I am unsure how we can find something to break and to fix here."

Jack offers Kaldur a smile, showing him that he held nothing ill about it. "S'fine," he replied. "I know what you meant, and you're not wrong about it."

Then he looked thoughtful. "A damage?" He glanced around, for again they hadn't brought anything with them (except his staff, which was definitely off limits) except for the literal clothes on their backs-- and that gave him an idea.

"How about we sacrifice one of your buttons to a good cause?"

"A...button?"

She didn't have any particular sentimental value assigned to her wardrobe. It was moreso the lightness of the suggestion. A button. Would that even be enough?

"Yeah, sure. Just make sure to take from the top or bottom. Just in case." So I don't accidentally flash you two.

Kaldur gives her what he hopes is a reassuring smile. He will still never understand the way the surface world reacts about someone's clothing, especially seeing as they wear so much of them, but he also knows it is not something you bring up when speaking to a female friend. It is deemed improper.

"I will take as much care as I can," he tells her before reaching out and tearing a button from the top of her shirt. He is careful not to pull hard enough to tear the actual fabric, but the thread is stretched and frayed.

Jack laughed quietly to himself, because he would have just claimed water in his ears and mockingly reached for the center button anyway, likely earning him a swat from the magician; he's a little less concerned about being proper than Kaldur.

The button seems to work and the water glows, so Jack will take the button and tease the loose thread from where the button had been, hoping its enough to sew the button back and satisfy the very last requirement of the ritual. He rolls his fingers together absently, forming a thin needle of ice that he's able to thread.

"Don't go jumping around on me," he said, leaning closer to Zatanna to begin affixing the button back into place.

Well, that was easier than expected.

She leaned a bit forward, trying not to laugh too hard at the fact that she was essentially sticking her chest right out at him. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), the button had been high enough that it didn't reveal much of anything.

"Darn. Ruin my fun, why don't you? Here, I was planning on doing a jig while you sewed my clothes back on."

There is a soft snort of amusement, because it's really pleasing to see two people who are so familiar and comfortable with each other. It reminds Kaldur of Tula and Garth--which shouldn't hurt as much as it still does, but at least it is much less than he remembers it to have been--of home. It is comforting in its bittersweet nostalgia so he watches, choosing to enjoy it.

Jack grinned wickedly and accidentally put his fingers on a bare patch of her stomach, ostensibly to hold her still while he sewed the button on, then looked innocently up at her. "Oops."

She inhaled sharply, then bit down on her bottom lip to distract herself from the urge to squirm while he still had that ice needle relatively close to her skin.

"I'll get you for that. I know where you live, remember?"

Once again, Kaldur is wondering whether or not this is too personal for them for him to be standing there so close. It feels intrusive to them to watch and he tries to an unassuming as possible. It is the last piece of the puzzle, so it shouldn't be long now.

Jack laughed to himself, tugging gently on the thread to secure his patched sewing job. This was definitely not a skill he excelled at but some of his older clothes had buttons and he knew at least the basics. The button once again refastened, he stood and stepped back, looking down at the water expectantly. When it glowed and went dark again as it had for the others, he looked back up at the other two.

"Well... is that it?"

[personal profile] backwordscompatible 2014-01-23 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Zatanna glanced down at the button, checking to make sure it was secure, before looking back up between the two boys (and offering an apologetic smile to poor Kaldur when she realized how uncomfortable he looked; maybe she and Jack should tone down the teasing...again....)

"I think so? They didn't say we had to do anything else, did they?"

After the light dims Kaldur rolls his shoulders back for a moment, losing some of the tension he had felt from them. He had not meant to make them feel guilty about their actions. What they do is their own business, but he will admit, if only to himself that he is glad they are finished.

"I do not recall anything else in the instructions," he thinks. "There does not seem to be a negative reaction, so perhaps it means that all has worked out as it should."
