Option 1 - Fire Sector
[Kaine’s standing in front of a storefront, looking through the window at the mantle displayed on the other side and debating whether or not he wants to buy one. Not for the fashion, mind you, but for something he could temporarily wear to cover his face and conceal the giant shiner surrounding his left eye. It’s a cliché, but you should really see the other guy.]


Option 2 - Water Sector
[He had intended to go right home, but now that his face was concealed by the hood of his newly bought mantle, Kaine finds himself walking right past the door to his suite, eventually winding up in a park in the water sector. It's clear by the path of destruction as he enters that one of the baby turtles had been through recently--the rubble had not yet been pushed to the side. He found himself smiling despite himself. When were they going to learn that they couldn't destroy everything?

Kaine sits on one of the benches and pulls the hood low as to cover his black eye, and just stares out at the mess. He could head home some other time.]


Option 3 - Metal Sector (Wearing this costume, though he still has short hair)
[He had forgotten how heavy the outfit was. It was the complete opposite of his Scarlet Spider costume—bulky with ridges and angles that have angles. Then there was the cape. What was he thinking when he added a cape to this thing? There was no reason for it whatsoever. Not like the raised “veins” of the costume, which had once pressed upon the scars of his degeneration to slow its progress, but now just serve to remind him of where the scars used to be. It was perfect.

He couldn't be the Scarlet Spider anymore. Not after what had happened in the bottle. It only served to remind him just how different he was from the others, and just how far he had fallen from what he could have been. And then he found this, his old outfit that once kept him alive, the outfit he wore during the year he spent terrorizing both Reilly and Parker, as well as anyone they might have cared about… and if that wasn't divine intervention, he didn't know what was.

Kaine leaps to the next building, never losing a stride in his step. He’s trying to get used to the suit’s bulk by doing something he’d done hundreds of times in it before... but if he bothered to stop and think about it, he’d realize just how suspicious he looks dressed like that leaping across rooftops at a sprint.]

Do you think anyone fighting you in the real world gives a flying fuck if you're not ready? [To prove his point he closes the gap between them and throws a punch he holds just above Miles' face.]

You use what you have, don't whine over what you don't. You fight like your life is on the line, because it is. Don't get wrapped up in "not fighting dirty" or being honorable. You can bet your ass the other side isn't. You spend too much time trying to make up your mind about your next move, your opponent's already made it for you.

[Miles totally flinches from the punch. He listens to what Kaine says, and while it's scary, it makes some sense. He nods.] Okay. I think I get it.

[He's going to try and be sneaky about his plan to drop low and kick Kaine's legs out from under him, but he's probably not that sneaky about it.]

[Kaine sees the attack coming, but let's him have it anyway... at least partially. After the kid sweeps his one leg out, he sticks his other foot to the floor just to remind Miles yet again that he's part-spider too. Only that wasn't the best of plans as he twists his knee as he falls. Not enough to injure, just enough to sting.

He releases his foot and lands like a cat on his hands and feet. He may be built like a mountain, but he's just as agile as the rest of them. Noticing his towel on the ground next to him, he picks it up and throws it Miles' face.]

[Miles catches the towel easily, throwing it back at Kaine as he springs up and over him, touching his back and letting loose a venom blast. Kaine said to fight like his life was on the line, and this is how he'd do it. The blast ought to sting Kaine and either knock him out or paralyze him for a while.]

[That actually takes Kaine by surprise. He expects Miles to be fast, but not that fast. Chalk it up to his small size, he figures. The venom blast sends him crashing back to the ground as he fights to regain his motor skills.

As he can at least partially move his hands, he sprays a web cocoon around himself for protection until the effects wear off.]

[Miles just... stands there and looks at the coccooned Kaine.] Uh... You okay there?

[After a moment, he breaks free using his stingers. It's clear from his expression he didn't expect Miles to stop there.]

That trick has saved my life more than once.

[spiderkid]

[What was he supposed to do? Kick a guy while he's down?]

Good to know. So, uh, that's the venom blast. By the way.

[Yes!]

I figured. Packs a punch.

[spiderkid]

[Sorry, not his style.]

Yeah. You good now?

[unobtainableredemption]

[God damn it, Miles! What did he just tell you!?]

Yeah, I think so...

[Takes a step torward Miles and staggers.]

[spiderkid]

[Usually that's the point when he lets the cops step in...]

Uh, maybe you should sit for a minute.

[And if/when the cops aren't there?]

No... I can do this.

[Takes another step towards Miles and staggers again.]

[spiderkid]

[The... Ultimates will show up?]

Okay, no, seriously, you can't. [Miles goes over and gets under his arm to help him towards a chair.]

[The moment Miles brings his arm around him, Kaine grabs it and flips him over his shoulder, stepping on his chest and popping out a stinger to point at his throat for good measure.]

I was beginning to wonder if you wouldn't fall for that.

[spiderkid]

[Okay. Miles is gullible, I guess is the lesson here.

He lands with a thud, scowling at Kaine for tricking him, ignoring the stinger pointed at his neck. Luckily his arms are free, so he can punch Kaine's knee in with his full strength.

He may be beginning to get the idea.]

[Motherfucker.

The spots he was seeing in his eyes made it a little too hard to be proud of Miles for finally getting the point. So does legitimately falling to the floor. But Kaine is up (well, in a crouch) just as quickly as he falls, watching Miles cautiously, curious to see the kid's next move.]

[Miles picks himself up into a crouch too, half hoping he didn't hurt Kaine too bad and half hoping Kaine is impressed with him.

Except what does he do now? He could wait for Kaine to attack, or he could attack Kaine himself. Webs are out, with no shooters. He already venom blasted him...

What was that Kaine had said about taking too long thinking about your next move?]

[Oh come on! Just when you were beginning to impress him.]

You really need to trust your instincts more.

[Because now he's just going to spray you with webbing. From his wrists. Yes, Miles, he doesn't need webshooters.]

Argh! [And that's some webbing to the face. Miles claws at his forehead, trying to pull the webbing from his eyes.]

I don't have any instincts!

Then your universe is going to have two dead Spider-Man's.

[Yeah, guess who's getting a training dummy thrown in his general direction? If you answered Kaine, congratulations! You're right!]

[Leaps over it but grabs it with a strand of webbing to keep it from either breaking or hitting something. Do you have any idea how expensive these are?!]

Instincts keep you alive. [Swings a kick Miles' way] If you don't have them, then you're as good as dead.

What is your [Dodges the kick] problem with me? [Swings his own kick.]

My problem is that your still naive because you're barely out of puberty. [Catches it and attempts to flip him.] If you want to go into your line of work and not die, there's worse teachers than idiots who spent their lives figuring out how to kill Spider-Men. [And out pops a stinger which he slices at Miles]
