May catch-all [Open~!]

Characters: Raine Sage and whoever feels like dropping by.
Date: Early May, or at your convenience during the rest of the month
Location: All over the city! Especially the hospital.
Situation: Various, mostly open-ended. Helping to keep people on their feet and not ill, exploring the world of cooking, possibly making unwise overtures at the palace barrier. And so on.
Warnings/Rating: None right now, will edit if that changes.

1; the hospital

The last few weeks have been hectic for a variety of reasons, and Raine’s been spending the greater portion of her time, sleeping and waking, at the hospital. It kind of shows; she doesn't look quite as put together as she normally does. She’s probably cast more Recover spells in the last little while than in the entirety of the regeneration journey back home.

She can be found fairly easily, usually with staff in hand, ready to heal anyone who so much as coughs in her general vicinity.

---

2; the markets

Raine hasn’t had the chance to subject anyone in Keeliai to her unique brand of experimental cooking. Yet.

Unfortunately, she’s finding it necessary not only to feed herself, in the absence of any better cooks, but also to try her hand at baking shortcake, in the hopes of keeping her spiritual energy up.

There’s no actual logical reason she should be picking up spices for the latter, but that is definitely what she’s doing, judging by how she’s having a thoughtful (and fairly one-sided) discussion with a kedan vendor about the possibilities inherent in spicy cake.

---

3; outside the lamentably changed palace

When she feels secure enough to leave healing and turtle-parenting duties to the others who are equally capable in them, Raine occasionally makes the trip up to the palace to see what she can see.

She’s not foolish enough to start by heading straight for the barrier, but she makes a long, slow circumference of the palace, noting what’s changed. Occasionally she squints at it, screwing up her eyes like she’s gone abruptly nearsighted.

The next logical step is clearly to see how the barrier reacts to thrown rocks, and she's already got one in hand, hefting it in consideration.

4; other

[ Raine is turtleparent to the hatchling known as Ryder, and lives in Earth, in suite 2B. She does rather a lot of healing magic, including curing poison (such as spores, if she gets to it fast enough) and some general purification, and enjoys recreational archaeology. If any of this catches your attention or if you just want a different starter than’s here, drop me a line at [plurk.com profile] makaricrow or at makari.crow[@]gmail.com, and we can work something out. I prefer prose but am good with either and will gladly fall in line with whatever you prefer. c: ]

Korra was completely unsurprised at that, Mako wasn't too outgoing and she made a mental note to drag him around the city so he could actually meet people.

But that was later, for now she opened her mouth to answer and it stayed that way for a couple of seconds. Her blue eyes looked past Raine for a moment, as if the answer was behind her. "It's, always been called bending. I guess because you make an element do what you want; you bend it to your will."

A spark happened when she snapped open her hand and a flame formed in her hand. She quickly turned it around brushed her hand through air, a blazing trail followed and the vanished as she let the fire die away. "That's how I see it anyway."

Korra gave the smallest pout humanly possible and gave a simple mutter.

"It’s not magic."

That was one of her pet peeves, but she had dealt with it enough times to not raise her voice when it came up. Especially for someone who was seeing bending for the very first time. Anytime after that though, she wasn’t as nice about it.

“It’s okay, I arrived early to finish my last session. Didn’t need as much time as I thought I did.”

She folded her arms just to bring one up and tap her chin thoughtfully. “But yeah, it’s an extension of yourself. You reach out with your chi to the element and move it with that. Not everyone can though. Some people are born benders, others aren’t.”

Explaining her own abilities was going to take a little bit longer, and she knew Raine was on the clock. And Korra had no idea if Sep kept a tighter ship than Bianca did.

“But if you want, I can go over that with you later at the Brazen Turtle some time. Then you can tell me how your artes work too. I want to know if they’re different from the others.” Bending was a subject Korra didn’t get tired of, and she wanted to know if Raine’s artes fell into the elemental natures.

She didn’t have to explain chi! That was definitely a life saver there since there had been a few foreigners who didn’t even believe in it.

Korra chuckled and rested her hand on her medical bag. "I work there as a barback, so any time at night works for me!" And she had the most important tidbit of information to share: “If you haven’t claimed your free drink yet, I can make it for you too.”

Not something most would be incredibly proud of, but this was Korra.

"Owner’s a nice guy." Said with a quick, sharp smirk that dug into her cheek. Korra set her hand on the strap over and slid down to make sure it was on securely. "I’ve got to check the patient list and see where I’m needed. Nice meeting you, Raine.”

She gave a wave and was heading off when she turned to call out. “I’ll keep an eye out for you!"
