Characters: Combeferre and you!

Location: The new amis-hangout in the earth sector.
Situation: Combeferre is attempting to make their new cafe seem a little bit like their old one! By which we mean he is probably sketching, reading, drinking, and generally talking to people. Do come join him!
Warnings/Rating: None as of yet!

[When he has not been spending time at the clinic, Combeferre can either be found in his and Enjolras' rooms or in the cafe they've newly adopted; since the other was rather destroyed. When he is not sketching, he can be found discussing various things with the patrons -- philosophy, sometimes, or perhaps it's even where to find various compounds and sorts of things. All perfectly innocent, of course. He is certainly just going to use them for scientific experiments. In any case, should you be in a talkative mood, or should you simply wish for some companionship, Combeferre is free to be bothered.]

Yes, always. And the larger principle IS still the same, just shifted about a bit. But there still is fear being used to push a populace about, and methods to control it that are blatantly un-just. In that case, our jobs are much as they have ever been.

[Enjolras is flushing a bit with that, because, yes, public, and a public place where people do not know quite enough yet to ignore them no matter what they're doing too. But he's also grinning as he slides a finger across Combeferre's wrist, rather gently.]

But of course! Simply perhaps with less rhetoric and barricades. ....Unless there is a very pressing need, of course.

[He is arching an eyebrow inquisitively at that, looking rather amused.] Mm. You are affectionate to-day.

Well, I do suspect that Temeraire and Iskierka are more than enough barricade for all of us, somehow.

Ah well. [Enjolras is ducking his head to one side, smiling a little shyly.] I did miss you today, as ridiculous as that sounds.

Well, yes, certainly no one would like to attack the both of them; but would they be able to stand each other for long enough?

[He reaches to take Enjolras' hand, smiling.] Ah. Well, you needn't have, I have been here mostly all day.

Strategic placements of course. This way even Temeraire's long streak of patience does not finally wear out.

[Temeraire losing his patience is actually a very scary thought, considering that Enjolras has vague memories of that time in the bottle when he secretly employed Bonapartist sympathies and Temeraire was Napoleon's own dragon, when he seemed to come close. That might be something of a shudder at that thought.]

Well perhaps missing is not quite the right word.

[No one is around, so he is going to just pick up Combeferre's hand and press it to his lips for a second.] But thinking of you, I suppose fits better.

Ah yes, of course. I should have known you would have a plan.

[He's going to take the opportunity to nuzzle close, then, and who cares if anyone comments.]

I see. I am flattered, in that case.

That tends to be the default Iskierka plan, I am afraid. It's rather less creative than it might be.

[This is perfectly fine with Enjolras, and screw it, he's moving around to Combeferre's side of the table and perching half on a chair there, and half on Combeferre's chair, then sighing quite happily.]

This IS much better.

Not as such. She is a very ...strong-willed young ....lady, isn't she.

[And he's curling a bit closer, smiling.]

Mm, indeed.

Bahorel in young lady dragon form, I think. I wonder if they'd have gotten on, or if their wills would have clashed on everything, actually.

[he's laughing a bit, picturing it because honestly? Enjolras is not sure which he thinks might have been safer in the long run.]

Do you know I think I actually prefer this corner of the cafe to our old one?

[There is a bit more wall here to give the appearance, at least, of more privacy, which means that he's free to tuck his head under Combeferre's chin* ]

We fit into it well.

The world shudders at the very thought.

[He presses a kiss to Enjolras' hair in that case, abstractedly doodling with his free hand.]

Yes, it does seem more private. I quite enjoy it.

And that is before all the damages have been assessed.

[And then, somewhere along the line, talking has become much less important, in favor of relaxing against Combeferre, letting a hand absently rest on his shoulder.]

As do I, yes. A significant advantage, definitely.

And without Bossuet being present, fancy that!

[He is quite content to remain like this for now, smiling a bit and nuzzling whenever he gets a chance.]

I do hope Temeraire is not nearby, at least.

Oh now you've gone and made it even worse!

[Light and teasing as his tone is, it does occur to Enjolras that checking on Bossuet, how he is faring after everything that happened in the attacks is a good idea, but he hardly wants to crowd Bossuet if he is healing and exhausted, yet. ]

I do hope that he is feeling better now. Instead of bombarding him all at once though when he is not ready, I should try to find out instead. Taraja could ask Hector, perhaps?

[Then Enjolras is raising an eyebrow, snorting, even though he's not exactly switching positions here either, at the suggestion.]

That could prove to be awkward, yes.

I am sure Joly has been keeping him in good health. Or we might ask them yes.

[Good. Neither is Combeferre, because this is comfortable.]

He should, I think, be used to such things by now.

Of course he must be, but, I worry all the same, I suppose. But it is not an immediate concern, no.

Well, likely. I did not say WHOM it might prove awkward for, you know.

[Oh please, Enjolras. While he wouldn't exactly love the idea of people witnessing this, it's not exactly the awkward moment that it might have created once.]

You are rather comfortable, incidentally. Have I mentioned that lately?

That is true. I do not think any of our friends might be shocked by this; at least the ones that remain.

[And that gets a laugh.] You have not, no.

You've been here longest of us now, haven't you?

[At least so far as Enjolras can remember of being here. What's odd though, is thinking about the fact that he seems to be the other now, with Courfeyrac having left them. ]

And then myself. It's somehow as if we've been given some position of responsibility.

[There's a wry twist to Enjolras's grin with that part of the realization.]

Well, thank goodness YOU know what you are doing with that.

And well then. I will simply have to demonstrate a bit.

[He does feel as if napping on Combeferre right here could be very pleasant just now.]

.....I -- yes. It has been a few months over a year, now. [That is a sobering thing to consider, especially when so many friends from home have been and gone in that time.]

[And there's an answering smile there, equally wry.] Yes, or a second chance, perhaps.

Mm. In public? I cannot say I would mind terribly.

[It really is at that. Though, honestly, Enjolras is glad that some of them have gone since then. Marius, for one. Knowing that Marius had found out that he lived, and was able to go home to his Cosette felt right somehow. Grantaire for another, given the pain and illness Jehan had described him suffering here. That one is sadder, of course, given the outcome, but he does believe peace found their resident cynic in the end. Courfeyrac still hurts a great deal, and Eponine, and perhaps that will continue forever, but, with some of them, there is at least something to balance out the bitterness of losing them.]

And near a year for me, perhaps a few weeks over. I...it certainly has been a long one.

I've been thinking about those a bit lately. That where it mattered, at home, we had our victory after all, the more important one. It's let me try new ways to find one for this world, where we have so much in terms of options. If I might fight avoiding violence, moreso than we were allowed in Paris, I will gladly take it.

Ah good, I'd rather hoped not.

[Have a light kiss pressed to your cheek there, Combeferre.] I do very much hate to move. You make me, more than anything else, content.

I am pleased to hear you have finally seen the -- good that may be done, without violence. It is not as necessary as one might think.

[He smiles and nuzzles at Enjolras' neck.] It is the same for me.

Clemency is also a revolutionary measure, is it not? I seem to recall someone who knows Camille much better than myself who tried to help me understand that, once.

It simply took a bit longer for me to actually understand.

So it is. I shall have to come up with other things I might help you understand in that case.

See, you are learning things even here, my dear.

I am sure that you, of anyone, will be able to, somehow. At least

[He's brushing another quiet kiss across Combeferre's cheek and down his neck this time.]

...eventually.

[For the moment, he's stretching a hand free, tugging at one of his earrings absently, then, with another quick gesture, pulling first it, and then the other free, and slipping them into a pocket.]

And until then, I am willing to listen.

I should certainly hope so.

[He watches this amusedly, and eventually scoots a bit more until he is leaning against Enjolras as well.]

Mm, I had just grown accustomed to you with those, too.

[Enjolras does have to grin at that.]

There will be times that I still need them, I am fairly certain. But for now, at least I can start putting the crutch aside a little, where it is not necessary.

[He can't imagine, for instance, not flying into any actions or fights without them, but for the moments like now, and the matters of life that do not require that particular brand of courage, but a different sort, they do seem out of place.]

In the moments like this, you more than give me the strength I need.
