The new Basswood Commander, Celaunn, stands watch outside of the building with one ready hand resting on the hilt of her sword while her protectorate goes inside. A prodigy of magic as she is, liberating all the Foreigners' souls right out from under Malicant has left Evastelei far more expended than any of them care to admit. She looks as tired and worn as Evandau sounded on the radio post, but she tries to cover it with good humour, much as can be mustered given the situation. Eva's sent out messages to the ones whose essence she's felt resonate for each address and upon arriving, carries the lanterns into the new units whether they're all present or not... she's a busy lady and when this is all done she might just sleep for a week.

"Couldn't rightly explain some of these set-downs," Eva says as she goes about hanging the lamps up in the central part of the house. For most of the units, this equates to the main living area, though sometimes in the kitchen or unfinished room -- the layouts on each building has variations, after all. "One of those things you just have to feel, I reckon. Never figured Evandau much for leaving new bottles of wine on the pillows after all, so this will have to do."

While she's in the buildings, she'll run her hands over the wards built into the walls, letting them light briefly with various colours of light depending on the purpose, a symbol-based language not unlike runic illuminating at her touch and then fading to invisibility again.

"Now for these," she'll continue once she's sure she has all their attentions. "These are the best I could do on short notice, what with the Creature throwing all his resource at breaking Eshai's spells. That's why none of you could get into the Throne Room few weeks back-- that was a right bold move on your parts, by the way. See if you can't talk tall and smileless up there," she jerks her head toward the front of the building to indicate Celaunn, "into learning something from it. Chilu's are too by the book."

She'll explain how the lanterns are strengthened by proximity of those whose soul they house, and the dangers of staying away from them (particularly in a Dreaming state) for too long. "You don't want the Creature coming to rip you out of here," she says, jabbing them in the chest for emphasis, a deep frown distorting the burned scar on the one side of her face. "Be something like putting your insides through a wind shearer. Don't recommend it, that's for certain. Are you paying attention? Don't be moving these anywhere. With the power of these, I can understand why Eshai wanted to keep them close but keeping them from you... well, it wasn't the only thing she and I disagreed on."

Once she's satisfied that they've got as much information as she can provide at this time, she'll remind them as Evandau did: these lanterns are their Keeliai anchors and should they be destroyed, it won't be a trip back to their worlds that they can look forward to. "Without these, I can't keep you from being lost for good," she'll add seriously. "Good luck with them."

I--

[His head falls down towards his chest and he stares at the floor.]

I-I'd really rather not say.

[Since this girl is an alien, it wouldn't be a stretch for her to know about Viltrum... and he really didn't want her thinking he was like them.]
looksfine: (did you hear me?)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-18 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Why not?

[Dude. Her first love was a Red Lantern. She was hardly one to judge.]
shorttempered: ([Mark] Oh you know... stuff)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-18 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't know that!]

They're... kind of infamous, and I don't want you to get the wrong idea.
looksfine: (peeking around a corner)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-18 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
If you are concerned I would make presumptions of your person based on your planet of origin, I can assure you, that will not be the case.

[She wasn't exactly an ideal Oan citizen herself.]
shorttempered: ([Mark] Didn't mean to disappear in space)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-18 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
... It's Viltrum.

[He really hopes she meant that.]
looksfine: (did somebody call for a NAV COM?)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes glow faintly for a moment as she attempts to process this.]

My apologies. I can find no Oan records on that particular planet.

Is it located out in the Forgotten Zone?
shorttempered: ([Inv] Please tell me you're kidding)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh thank god, she was from one of the planets that didn't have a Viltrum.]

I... don't think so. If you guys had a Viltrum, you'd know.
looksfine: (sassy)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-21 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily.

The probability of there existing a world I do not know about is greater than zero. I am perfectly capable of accepting this fact.
shorttempered: ([Mark] Nice place)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-23 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
See I know there's not a version of me in all the different parallel universes out there, so I'm pretty sure there's not a Viltrum in all solar systems or whatever the bigger term is called--galaxy?--in all of them either.

looksfine: (glad you're not mad anymore)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I accept that probability as well.
shorttempered: ([Inv] Kicking ass and taking names)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-24 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Then let's go with that one, because I've never heard of Oa before either, and though I'm not a space expert, the way you're talking about it makes me think I would have if it existed in my world.

Given our new status as cohabitants of this residence, I find your terms not only acceptable, but pleasing.

[She actually likes compromise!]
shorttempered: ([Inv] Hi I'm Invincible)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-25 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm Mark, by the way. Mark Grayson.

[He offers his hand, even though after he does it he realizes that might be a mistake. He has no idea what alien robots do as a greeting.]
looksfine: (lovingly)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-25 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
And you may call me Aya.

[Fortunately, Aya was familiar enough with the handshake to recognize and understand its significance. Her metallic glove reached out to gently clasp his hand. The green construct fingers surprisingly warm against his skin, in contrast to the cool metal.]
shorttempered: ([Mark] Heh. Heheheheh heh.)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-25 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Mark is surprised--he's far more used to Robot when shaking... well... robot hands--but it quickly changes to a smile as he shakes her hand.]

Nice to meet you.

I picked out that room over there, if that's okay with you. [Points to where he'd been putting his boxes.]

[Her eyes followed to where he indicated for a moment, showing no signs of either pleasure or displeasure at the revelation.]

I have no preference.

Though I understand I am obligated to remain in this dwelling for certain designated hours of the day, most of my nights are spent at either of the laboratories I currently head.
shorttempered: ([Mark] These fries are cold)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-27 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently. Apparently those lanterns are holding our souls hostage... Which, by the way, is super freaky to think about.
looksfine: (pic#5605826)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-27 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps it would not seem so "freaky" if you were to think of them as keeping our souls safe.
shorttempered: ([Inv] Please tell me you're kidding)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-06-27 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I can crush a car with my bare hands. I find it hard to believe a little paper is keeping it safe. Heck, it's out in the open!
looksfine: (hacking things is fun!)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-06-27 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, it is concealed within a private residence, that I have been told is protected by forces native to this world.
shorttempered: ([Mark] You mean...)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-07-08 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
[...He forgot how literal robots--real robots and not fake robots like Robot--were.]

Still.
looksfine: (flyin')

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-07-08 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Still what?

If you are concerned, then I do not see the harm in constructing a series of protocols that would further ensure its safety.
shorttempered: ([Mark] Didn't mean to disappear in space)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-07-10 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, it's not even that it doesn't look secure... it's just... surreal, knowing its out there like.
looksfine: (uh-oh?)

[personal profile] looksfine 2014-07-10 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
And this is what you find most unsettling?
shorttempered: ([Mark] Not gonna happen)

[personal profile] shorttempered 2014-07-18 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I find lots of things unsettling. Just add this to the list.
