(no subject)

Characters: Open to all!
Date: June 23rd
Location: Wood sector, open market.
Situation: A very late "Memorial Day" barbecue, bring your own beef!
Warnings/Rating: N/A. C'mon, it's a barbecue.

[There's two grills, one for meat, one for veggies. (We don't want our vegetarians getting cross-contamination, now do we?) They're pretty basic, just some wood-burning open barrels with grills over top. Feel free to come on by, bring some food to share around, and hang out with your friends. Or glare across the way at your enemies! We're all good here.]

"Yes," River nodded. "But you were the one who'd said it first."

It was something that used to frighten her mother, and anger her father. River's quirky habit of knowing exactly what was going to be said, and saying it at the same time. Sometimes it was guesses, because she knew them far better than they'd ever known her, and sometimes it was a little more than guesses.

Simon always laughed and told her she was a goose.

She missed her brother.

"Did I say that out loud? I certainly didn't mean to..." He can't remember doing so either, "Although you are right. The good times are all we have."

River shook her head, disagreeing that he'd spoken it aloud. "How do you tell the good times from the bad times? What if they're almost the same?"

"That's a good point," he muses, and comes a little closer, motioning towards her bench as if asking if it's alright to sit next to her, "sometimes good times can be as small as a moment's smile in the midst of darkness. But even then, it's nice to remember you can smile at all, isn't it?"
