Possession is 9/10 of the law

Characters: Anyone helping Wan attempt to counter-possess Asti; Malicant
Date: Sat. 10/25
Location: Various TBD
Situation: Wan is attempting to possess Asti; others are acting as distractions/helping power boost
Warnings/Rating: Will post them in subject lines when/if needed

The log is going to be broken up between the following Event 'points' just to manage them easier:

Pre-Possession Power-Up (Mingle for those powering up Wan before his group heads to the Turtle's Head)
Pre-Distraction Meet-Up (Mingle for the distraction teams to finalize tactics or throw caution to the wind)
Possession Attempt (The actual possession attempt)
Distraction Group One (Headed up by Dante, this group is going to be dealing with the cultists directly)
Distraction Group Two (Network distraction group and/or different group of cultists)
End of the Day (for people to deal with the fallout of the event if they want to do so in this log)

ANYONE can tag in and take part in any of the threads except the Possession Attempt itself - that's closed to Wan, Valdis, Zuko, and Katara so the group is small and less easily noticed.

First order of business? Disarm those cultists, even if it means he has to take their hands off in the process. And that is exactly what Zuko goes for, not wanting those blades anywhere near him or his friends.

He glances up as Valdis suddenly plows into the fray nearby. And that's when he notices that there are more coming through the portal.

"Valdis, where's Wan?! We need to get out of here!"

There was no way they could keep holding off all these cultists as they kept coming.

The children were fighting for their lives and more cultists were pouring through the portal. She flashed back to the fight with the cultists at the midnight hotel, the fight where Zuko had been tainted. She couldn't allow that to happen again, but she hesitated at Zuko's words.

He's injured, She replied, You and Katara must get to him. I'll hold them off. She was only thinking of getting them out of danger before they could be tainted, but she had to be rational about it. If you can get him close enough to me, I can carry the three of you back to the city. I'm faster than they are.

No way.

There were so many of them coming now, and while she fended them off as best she could, she growled in frustration as they evaded her, sending her stream toward them in another spray of ice shards, careful not to hit Valdis or Zuko. Her heart hammered as she spun and saw the two closest to Zuko, and immediately, she brought up as much water as she could in an attempt to drench and freeze the attacking cultist in place, even if it meant his losing one sword.

As close as she had put herself to the new arrivals, however, she barely had the time to draw up water around herself again, forming a quick wall as she moved to put space between herself and the attackers again, and put herself between the newest arrivals and her friends.

Valdis and Zuko were right, but with control of a long range element, Katara knew she couldn't abandon Valdis, even if it meant taking both herself and Zuko from the battle and to safety.

"You and Zuko go get Wan. I'll hold them off and you can come back for me," she called. Taking a careful stance, she pulled again at the ocean with all of her will.

After a moment, a massive wave would rise from the side of the turtle, just as she had done from the firenation ships back home. The call from the one about Valdis made her smirk in a single second of vanity, the wave towering over her as she faced the cultists again.

"Avoid this," she muttered to herself, bring her arms down in a smooth but powerful jerk.

The great wave would slam downward, crashing into any of the cultists threatening to overtake the battlefield.

Adapting to fire was one thing... but adapting to blades? This really took him by surprise, his eyes widening in horror as the cultist's flesh literally hardens around his sword, lodging it there. He's so in shock that he gets yanked forward, not thinking to let go out of the blade until he's right there. Practically staring a knife in the face. Time seems to slow down for a moment as he sees it coming for him... only to have Katara's water streak in and surround the cultist, freezing her in place. For a second or two he can only stare, his heart pounding in his chest.

But he then quickly snaps out of it as the battle continues to rage around him. Now wasn't the time to freak out. Bracing his foot on the frozen cultist, he pushed and yanked his blade free. But... they were now useless, so he sheathed the weapons. But there was a deep frown as both Katara and Valdis commanded the other to go get Wan while they held the cultists off.

He had a better idea.

"Katara, can you make an ice bridge to the turtle's head? I'll go get Wan. Both of you can hold them off until I come back with him."

Valdis laughed at the cultist's words. So this one had been at the hotel that night Zuko had been stabbed. She leaped at him, powerful jaws opened wide, prepared to snap them closed the moment she hit something.

Katara's words filled her with fury, but she landed and spun away from her prey, retreating to allow Katara to attack. Zuko's voice cut in with a no nonsense tone.

Fine, she hissed, But go quickly.

Then she faced down the cultists once more.

"Fine" she hissed back, shuddering under the stress of her waterbending as she cleared the field and turned to find Zuko again. With the cultists distracted for a few moments at least, she could do that much, she hoped. Running she pulled water with her again, throwing it across and providing the firebender with a bridge of ice that could take him to Wan. When it was done, her eyes went to Zuko's one last time before turning back to the fifteen opponents.

Siding with Valdis, Katara drew up all the water around her, ready to defend and attack, striking quickly at the ones kneeling in an attempt to stop whatever it was they were trying to do.

Zuko's eyes locked with Katara's in that one brief moment. She had better take care of herself and not get poisoned... or worse. He would be back as soon as he could. He then turned away and made a running dash for the bridge.

Leaping onto the ice, Zuko then threw his arms back. Flames erupting from both hands and propelling him down the bridge rapidly as he slid on his feet. What would normally be a lengthy walk that would take several minutes, was considerably shortened. Crouched, he shot down the slide like a rocket, the wind whipping at his hair as he went. Once reaching the bottom, the flames died and he lept off, not losing his momentum as he ran towards Wan.

Once he had reached the Avatar's side, he bent down next to him.

"Wan, are you all right?"

Valdis did not like their odds, especially since Katara seemed tired from her last maneuver. The Kedan that had recognized her was focused, but she was more concerned about what the four on the ground were doing. Whatever it was, she couldn't let them finish.

Get behind me, Katara

Hoping that the girl would listen, Valdis closed her eyes and summoned the void for the third time. It rushed outward, sensing that, this time, it would have prey to condemn and consume. It left her body and took on a physical form, thick black mist which laughed and twisted around her body. Her red eyes blazed through the darkness when she opened them, her voice echoed by a thousand souls.

If you run, I will spare you.

Katara heeded Valdis' words the moment the mist appeared, and put herself behind the wolf, watching in amazement as it surrounded her partner. She quickly gave her more space, putting herself behind her and to the side where the mist would have room and she would be able to surround herself with more water.

When it did little to phase them, her chest clenched, and she stared as another three appeared and quickly approached before she risked a glance back at Zuko and Wan.

"This isn't working, Valdis!" she called, pulling more and more water up from beside the turtle once more. Determined, she brought the water around herself and forced it to lift her higher into the air, to give her a better striking point and view of whatever it was that was happening to the four kneeling. They would soon find large shards of ice hurtling toward them.

Wan, you need to lose a few Zhu Li's!

Zuko held onto Wan, concern in his eyes as he looked him over. He was pretty beat up, but he was alive, and that alone was enough to give him some relief. He wanted to hug him, but now wasn't the time. Instead he took Wan's wrists and turned around, holding the Avatar's arms over his shoulders.

"Get on my back," he told him, his voice leaving no room for argument. He knew they needed to get out of here, and Wan was in no shape to move quickly. He would even pull Wan into his back if need be. And once the other man was secure, Zuko walked back to the ice, struggling a little under the added weight. He still hadn't regained all his strength back, but he managed. Zuko then shuffled his feet on the ice, making sure they were wet and slick before crouching and throwing his arms behind him again.

Flames shot from his hands once more, except this time they were more intense. Keeping the flames away from Wan so that he wouldn't burn him, the both of them slid back up the bridge. It wasn't as fast as when Zuko had descended, and he had to put in twice as much effort, but they made it back up to the rim of the shell within a couple minutes.

Fury filled her as the Kedan continued to fight back. Her eyes glinted as they began to shift and harden their skin, as if they thought that that would protect them from the void. She didn't answer Katara, instead steadying herself. She didn't have a choice, there were too many.

Then your souls are forfeit

Valdis gave herself over to the darkness and allowed it to flow freely without hinderance. The mist condensed into shadowy figures, one for each of the four kedan shifting behind the wall of cultists, and then the shadows shot outward, faster than the eye could follow.

The shadows would silently, but visibly enter the cultists without leaving any sign of injury. After a moment, their hearts would simply stop as their souls were ripped from their bodies.

When her ice did nothing yet again, she sighed, but gasped as Valdis' attack took effect. She dropped back down to the ground, pushing the water out from around her and toward the cultists before her with as much force as she could muster. With them forcing her back, she hesitated at the edge of the shell, then took a deep breath and fell back willingly, the water below waiting to accept her.

That was when she saw the full extent of the shifting flying overhead.

Shifting her position just before she hit the water, she let it consume her, and then, moments later, had it throw her back up into the air, her intention to intercept the enemy headed for Zuko and Wan. With another wave of her arms, part of the wave she was riding would try to engulf the winged beast, or at least knock it off its course before she had to physically do it herself.

The shadows returned, dragging the four taken souls into the collective darkness. Valdis received a surge of strength just as the cultists raced forward. She dug in, shifting her weight back onto her haunches and waited for the cultist to come within reach, then she launched herself up into the air and over their heads. She landed and spun around just in time to see Katara use the water to propel her toward the flying cultist. She would have to trust Katara to save Zuko and Wan.

Now that the cultists were between her and the edge of the shell, she had only a split second to carry out her plan. She swung her body, throwing herself sideways at the cultist, trying to knock as many of them off the shell's edge as possible, knowing full well that the force would take her over the edge as well.
