ENDPLOT | ROLL THE BONES, PART 1

Characters: ALL!
Date: Early/Mid November
Location: Under the shell
Situation: It's either Malicant or the Foreigners... and their worlds.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

The Foreigners had begun their counterattack by trying to possess the Great Turtle whom Malicant had taken, and although the movement had failed, some vital information had been uncovered. Under the shell lay Malicant's weakness, and inside the Dreaming was where he could be fought.

Any help from the kedan is uncommon. They're wary, watching, as a group beginning to lose sight of the community. Their family groups are more tightly-knit than ever, and any approach from the Foreigners is answered by suspicion at best and violence at worst. That makes daily life difficult, when the majority of the city refuses to have much to do with them. Why aren't you doing anything? they seem to say. What good are any of you? All you've done is make things worse. We'd be better if you'd never come.

The Foreigners are unwelcome in Keeliai. The cultists are becoming a majority. Now is the time.

There aren't many left of the Foreigners left, but inside the Dreaming the limitations of the waking world no longer exist. For every Foreigner and their worlds, their loved ones, this is the chance to make themselves safe for good. And all of them will be needed.

OOC
There are two main headers, one for preparation at the Hotel where Milyn and Eva will be available to speak with The second section where they will be able to search the caves beneath the Shell inside the Dreaming to find the Vilii Stone, and where the boon'd characters will be affected. If you are threading something that doesn't fit one of those categories, just add it to the bottom of the post. Questions go to the plotting post, please! Once the Stone has been acquired the second half of the plot will go live in the logs comm.

Milyn didn't mind answering Valdis, though the Healer never took her eyes off the vials she was filling. There were enough for all of the Foreigners and then some, because she'd refined extra just in case, but the dosage was of the utmost importance. Not enough serum and the body would stay in Life while the soul disengaged completely. Too much dosage and they'd sink straight through Dreaming and into the Death realm.

"The Gha'nal," she explained, since she knew Valdis had not been present when shed sent some of the Foreigners after the creature. "Has a very particular talent of being able to move freely between the different planes. That ability is, at least in part, genetic in makeup. So the extracted venom from the two that were captured contains the same properties. Don't worry dear, I've done this before."

"I'm not worried," Valdis replied, perhaps a bit too quickly. If she hadn't been worried before, she was most certainly now. She worried that the serum might burn off too quickly, or that a change in mass caused by shifting might affect the potency of the serum. This was quite risky, even if Milyn had done it before. She just had to hope that the serum would be potent enough that it wouldn't burn off before they had defeated Malicant, but the other problem seemed a bit more complicated.

"How does the dosage work?"

"She who doth protest," Milyn said brightly. "Or something like that. You Foreigners have had really extraordinary writers where you're all from! What was that one's name again? I may have gotten the quote not exactly, but it's something like that. I'm sure you'll recognize it, you're a smart one whose been around a long time. I know more about all of you than you might realize."

She had no idea why Milyn felt the need to bring up Shakespeare, the man had been skilled, sure, but he had nothing to do with the situation at hand. Yet how did Milyn know about Shakespeare anyway, or the other great writers of the various worlds? And how did Milyn know so much about them, when she knew almost nothing about Milyn? Too many questions and not enough answers.

"'The lady doth protest too much'," Valdis replied, "From Hamlet by William Shakespeare. What do you mean you know more than we might realize?"

"Ah yes, that's it. Shakespeare, what a strange name. Bit of a mouthful, that one. See, I knew you'd know the answer! And I didn't mean anything by that, just that I was asked to keep you all healthy by the late Emperor-- ah, well, the late late Emperor, Ironwood of course. It's all part of my title, but I really feel like I haven't done enough for you all."

The kedanese woman kept a steady stream of conversation going, in a way that suggested she was rather used to doing this while her patients just sat and wondered why she was strange in the head.

"Has anyone ever told you how odd you are?" Valdis said. Usually she tried to have more tact, but she was at a loss when it came to figuring this woman out. "Most of the kedan hate us, why don't you?"

"How could I hate school extraordinary individuals? And I get that all the time," Milyn replied cheerfully without missing a beat. "If I don't hear it at least once a day, I probably haven't left the house. Well, I don't really spend much time at my house anyway, come to think of it. Though I don't know if you'd properly call it a house, it's also my clinic. Still, home is where the heart is, what a lovely saying. Where's your home, dear?"

In Valdis' opinion, this woman clearly had something missing. Milyn was far too happy for their situation, far too cheerful to have lived in the real world. Or perhaps it was just that she herself was more screwed up than she realized. It would have been refreshing to meet someone like Milyn, except for the question that followed. The saying itself was harmless, something that people said with a smile, something that made people happy to think about. Except for now.

"I don't have one."

If Valdis was expecting Milyn to be abashed at touching a clearly uncomfortable subject, she was talking to the wrong woman. The Healer just patted Valdis on the arm and beamed at her. "Well, no shame in that. I'm happy to confirm you do have a heart, I just took you blood pressure. So you're halfway there already! Don't be slacking off now, that'd be a real shame."

She tapped the syringe she had to free up any air bubbles. "All ready?"

Unable to think of anything to say, Valdis just looked at her quizzically. But she managed a nod, relieved that Dante wasn't around to make any veterinarian jokes.

For all her seemingly emptyheaded chatter, Milyn clearly knew what she was doing and administered the injection to Valdis' arm painlessly. "All done," she chimed, sounding satisfied as she withdrew the needle.
