Midnight Hotel
Sometimes he slept, other times he was out just exploring. One thing was certain the Demon Knight was restless. Sometimes he would just be walking the halls of the second floor where his room was. As days had passed he had taken to leaving his sword in his room pretty much at all times. His blood stained shirt had been tossed as it was beyond repair so he refused to be without his armor. Being on his own with no purpose was a strange alien concept. People needed money here, but he was not charged to stay. he had a feeling the hunter was behind it, but he couldn't investigate that as he wanted because he didn't want to be on the street either.
So many thoughts went through his mind as he wandered the halls and eventually down the stairs to the lobby. maybe even outside, he was restless and couldn't keep still.
Random Roof
The rain was coming down in the dreary dizzle. Nelo Angelo had found his way up the side of a building he could not identify right off, and perched on the edge of the roof looking up at the sky as rain rolled down his face. It rained sometimes on Mallet Island but not as often as he would have liked. Rain was one of those few things he loved.
The cool drops would do no good for his suit of armor, but he did not care, nor did he care about the gusts of wind picking up. This was as peaceful as he found anything since his arrival. Finally looking down he watched random kedan and others walking by. He didn't even know if he was allowed to be up here. Honestly he did not care. If he could stay here until his armor rusted he would, logically he knew that was stupid though he would leave in time. For now he looked back to the sky, letting his troubled mind drift.
Shopping Area
He bit his lip some, lost in the daze of his own jumbling thoughts as he made his way down the streets. How would he live in a place like this? Why did the hunter try so hard to help him? Why would he not accept that he was not the man The hunter thinks that he is? More so, what would his purpose be? A new start maybe, though that seemed like false hope. The power of Mundus was mighty, despite what Dante says, he expects his master to come. He would never let one of his valued puppets escape, not after such failure. As far as he had known Mundus could even control time. He would think death had finally claimed him, but he has seen hell, been there, and this was too pleasant to be hell.
He stopped before a booth that had jewelry on display, his hand idly reaching up to his neck to find that strange necklace he woke with, his pendant was gone. Lost to time and space, He had lost it in his fight with that Hunter who now tried to take care of him. His red eyes shifted over the jewelry. He had no money, no means to buy anything and its not like that old necklace matters anymore. The thought crossed his mind that it was pointless for him to stand there looking at such gems, so he turned to head off once more.
Just an idle trek to explore the shops, he really had nothing better to do, and it was better than staying in his room letting his worries of his master’s vengeance plague him more than they already were. Maybe seeing how the creatures of this world lived would be enough of a distraction. Yet his mind kept painting the streets filled with blood. The horrors of hell in the busy streets of the city he walked. Reality overlapping with long lived nightmares.
Then a sound caught his attention, a music box playing in one of the shops. It was a simple little harmony, yet it made him squeeze his eyes shut trying to focus as pain started to twist in his mind. He reached out for the nearest wall and clutched his head. Flashes of memories passing so quick he could not tell what they were, all he could focus on was the pain as the music slowly stopped. He did not teleport away this time. He had no where to go that he knew. So once the pain subsided he pushed off the wall ignoring the sounds of the random nearby kedan asking if he was alright and moved on to walk more. He needed to find information to pay off his debt.

And who exactly are you? I have no reason to believe you. he had just as much reason for the opposite he was just too prideful to admit he needed help, and desperately so. Here I would have assumed he would enjoy the mindless drone better. yes, he can tell whats going on outside of his body even if he has no say.

She reached out a hand to touch the barrier, not certain how it would react.

or using his oh so pretty words. But he did care about Dante, even if he will not say it or admit it. They were twins, that means something. The barrier was meant to cause excruciating pain to any who touched it. Mundus did not plan to ever let loose the son of Sparda. Ah, I would not. He spoke maybe a second to so too late on purpose. It has a bit of a bite to it.
Note for Dante!!
So it does.
Then she took a deep breath, summoning her power and when she opened her eyes, they were a bright, blood red. The Void came out of the darkness behind her and slammed into the barrier. Once, twice, then the barrier shattered and Valdis walked across the boundary, her eyes glittering in delight.
Mine seems to be worse, however.
-----
Back in the room at the Midnight Hotel, Valdis' breath caught in her throat and her heart rate increased dramatically before it faltered, skipping a few beats in response to the shunted pain. For a few moments it went silent entirely and in that instant just before death, it began to beat again, steady and strong.

"You shouldn't scare everyone like that, okay? I thought we were playing it safe here." Dante said to the woman he knew couldn't hear him. He was giving it a little bit longer, but the next time she so much as coughed, he was going to pull her out. This was obviously just about as risky as she had claimed; what the hell was going on in there?

Pass a message to my brother when you see him; Sei in ritardo , stupido . he did not have high hopes despite the fact that she got a smirk out of him, why? This is the closest he has been to freedom in over a decade.
no subject
She didn't have much time before she would have to retreat, but she made no move to try to release him from the shackles.
I will tell him, but first, tell me why you are here?
no subject
He spoke with hatred in his words, his eyes locked on hers again.
This is the price on pays for defeat. I lost when I tried to take him down.
It sucked to admit it but hell, its been so long since he got to speak to anyone who could actually speak back, a bit of honesty seemed like it might get him out of here.
When you tell him, smack him behind the left ear. He'll understand.

Her eyes faded back to emerald as she let her power fade, but smiled when she felt his hatred towards Mundus, perhaps the anger she felt had never been directed at Dante in the first place.
I would be glad to smack him, She continued, He is long overdue.
no subject
Good, make sure it stings.
He spoke without any mirth, he had no faith in escape or freedom. He gave up hope on that a long time ago despite his bravado.
no subject
I am certain that he would trade places with you if he could, She said softly, He has a good heart, the kind that would sacrifice itself in order to see the people he cares about be safe.
no subject
There was both pride and anger in his tone, why? He loves his twin in his own angry way. As much as Dante drives him up a wall he would never want to know Dante suffered like he had. he would slaughter the world to set him free. And deny it all in the same breath. That's how he works.
If he tries anything that stupid, he will never be forgiven. Now go, before the darkness returns.

In the next breath, she had returned to her own body. It felt heavy, much like after she had awoken from the dreaming.
"Wow," She breathed, still slightly out of it.
no subject
This only looks bad.
"Oh good, your heart didn't stop again." He remarked casually, though there seemed to be a strong air of worry quickly leaving. "I'll take it things were lively in there."

"I mean your breathing went funny, and your heart stopped. The only reason I didn't pull you out is because your heart started up again before I could stab you." This is Dante's way of scolding her. "Of course, I was taking your pulse wrong, so it may have happened more than once. I really hope whatever you were doing in there was worth it."
no subject
"How much is your brother's life worth?" She asked, "I had to break through some of Mundus' power to get to him"
No need to mention that his brother could have warned her of the danger sooner, it seemed that Dante wasn't exactly reasonable when it came to Vergil.
no subject
"Well, you can't exactly put a value on the life of a family member." He wasn't the least bit disappointed; Vergil was in there, and now he knows that there are magical barriers. He could work from there. "But I sure as hell know I don't want you pulling a stunt like that again. If I had to guess, that little brute force attempt to get to Vergil is what caused that little scare."
Dante didn't know enough about souls to know just how dangerous this little venture was going to be. Really, that was pretty much all Vergil's fault.
no subject
"It was a successful attempt," She argued, "But if it would put your heart at rest, I promise I won't get myself killed trying to free your brother," She paused, remembering what she had told Vergil, "as long as you promise the same."

Will I no longer exist? Did I ever exist? These were the though plaguing in at the moment. Was he willing to die to let someone else live?
no subject
"Don't you dare think you can successfully dodge me." She stood up and cuffed him behind the left ear as per his brother's orders. "I've been playing this game far longer than you."
no subject
"Well, we don't know that yet." He didn't raise his voice while he argued. "And I don't feel like making a promise we both know I won't keep."
"How about this? I won't sacrifice myself unless we know for sure there's no other way, and-" He noticed Nelo awakening, and stopped dead in his tracks. Oh shit, he looked furious.

The shadows in the room darkened as she faced the brainwashed man, her eyes blazing red. "Get out," She growled, the sound almost more animal than human. "Get out before I break the rules of my Father."
