Extreme Makeover: Keeliai Edition - March Log

Date: Throughout March, until the 21st
Location: The Palace of Landed Sky and surrounding environs
Situation: Let's tear this bitch down.
Warnings/Rating: Drug addiction/withdrawal references in the Dust threads, most likely

The demolition is now in full swing and will last until late March, largely run by Zanru and the Metalworkers (as part of the deal), though individual Foreigners can be hired to help (and the help would likely be appreciated, as the Foreigners are going to get some of this too). Hired Foreigners will report to Xuiyu, as Zanru herself is too busy to be on-site. Gene can be found helping with the destruction, in his armor more often than not, over the course of the demolition project, and answering questions and taking suggestions from Foreigners and kedan about what to do with the newly freed land.

However, from the 4th to the 11th, there is Dust contamination, which is sickening some of the workers - Foreigner and kedan alike. It's not too much of a hindrance, and the demolition seems to be on track to finish on-schedule, by March 21st.

Nothing that concerns personal matters between the two of you, if that is what you are concerned.

We simply...shared memories. It was a method of interfacing that I have successfully managed to perform in the past.

I'm not used to people talking about me. Or, well, being other than vitriolic when they do.

[He looked down briefly. He'd done the same with Tony, but it had been out of anger and desperation and fear. And he'd never been in Tony's memories. He wouldn't. He couldn't.

In point of fact, he was a little jealous, that he'd shared with Aya freely.]

And how'd that work out. [His voice has regained its flat affect.]

It was...informative.

[In a way, Aya had shared far more with Tony than he had shared with her; she spoke freely about Razer. He didn't speak quite so freely about anyone other than himself.]

Well. At least that much.

[His stomach was still twisting in knots at the thought, remembering how Tony had left. He didn't have many other people to talk to. If Tony left - if Tony decided he liked someone else better, if Tony couldn't handle him anymore and walked away...

...then Gene would have to let him.]

How are you feeling?

[Abrupt subject change, because this hurt.]

[Aya had grown attuned to the subtle context clues of those familiar to her. Facial expressions. Tone.]

[But she was not yet familiar enough with Gene to properly assess his current state of mine. Leaving little more than for her to answer his question.]

The lack of movement seems to aid in allowing my reserves to self-recharge.

I estimate about 4.6 hours at this precise rate should bring me back to full strength.

[Just as well. Gene didn't like being read.

He nodded, looking preoccupied.] Good. That's good. I'm glad you're feeling better.

I can go tell Tony now, if you want. So he knows where to find you.

[Noooo, he's not looking for a way out of this. Why would you think that?]

[Tony arrived a few minutes later, looking concerned, and a little confused.]

Hey, Aya. Gene told me you were... sick?

[In that span of time, Aya has...not moved. At all. Her body remained laying against the table, the occasional light scanner emitting from the ceiling to check on her progress.]

[When Tony entered the room, her previously closed eyes flickered open, head tilting to greet him.]

That is the current hypothesis, yes.

[Still a completely foreign concept to her.]

Some kind of contaminant? Weird that it was able to affect your systems. [Gene had briefed him on what he knew of Aya's situation.] How are you feeling? Physically and emotionally, [he clarifies, with a little grin.

Aya is a highly advanced organism with self-awareness and emotions, but there's one way in which she's still very much like the basic computer systems in Tony's world: you're not likely to get the answer you're looking for unless you ask for it explicitly and precisely.]

[And this was precisely why she and Tony got along as well as they did. For as little relative time as he had known her, he understand how she functioned so well.]

Physically, I feel...drained. But there is no pain or discomfort. My sensors do not register the increase in temperature beyond numerical indicators.

Emotionally... [Here, she paused. It wasn't that she didn't understand the question. Tony would know fully well that she did. She just was not sure what she felt, emotionally.] ...I am...confused.

Yeah, I would be too. You shouldn't normally be able to be infected by biological or chemical agents, right? That's gotta be kind of unsettling.

It is not an unprecedented occurrence.

In my universe of origin, I had fallen into a similar state due to the presence of an--as of yet--unclassified yellow crystal. It gave off a unique radiation that was able to nullify Green Lantern Energy. However, removing myself from its presence was enough to ensure full recovery within minutes.

[As was clearly not the case here. The primary difference being that yellow crystals were external, and her current source of illness was internal.]

Do you think whatever this contaminant is gives off some kind of radiation? [He frowns and chews his lip.] ...It could have magical activity.

[Tony's learned to never rule out magic in Keeliai. Given how many imported magical systems coexist here, it's surprising there aren't more magical mishaps, honestly.]

Does this feel anything like the last time you were having all those glitches, back in fall?

[Aya severely hoped it was not magical in origin. Not because of any pre-established hatred of the art...but simply because it was too unpredictable and illogical to accurately assess, contain, and treat.]

The sensation is similar, yes.

Although I do not believe I am in any immediate danger of total shut-down, as I may have been in the presence for the crystals, the uncertainty of its current duration does have me slightly concerned.

[He's with you on that one, Aya.]

If it feels similar, that does kind of point towards magic, doesn't it? [Great. Because what this turtle definitely needs is more mysterious magical ailments.

As for feeling concerned:] Me too. [He sighs.] Especially because your systems are unique. Even if we find other people being affected, treating them might not tell us anything that will help you. It's good that Zanru lets you have access to this equipment, though.

[As if on cue, another burst of light emitted from the scanner above, bathing her in a soft-green glow for a moment. Scanning up and down. More data appeared on the monitor, though near identical to the previous list. No change in her condition.]

Yes.

She has proven quite reasonable in allowing me the basic necessities to ensure my continued operation. Similar to how carbon-based life forms require sustenance and medicine.

Glad she's reasonable about something. [Eyeroll. He is on slightly better terms with Zanru these days, but now complaining about her has just become a habit.]

How long are you going to have to run these scans? Is there anything I can do to help identify the compound?

Currently, the scans are purely diagnostic. There is little more they can do besides provide me with the necessary information my own scanners are not reliable in accessing at this time.

[In other words, she had no definitive answer on that one.]

...however, if you were to perhaps obtain and isolate a small sample of the virus as it currently exists inside my physical form, there is a chance you may be able to identify any organic elements that the technological scans are not capable of recognizing.

Sure. The analytical equipment here is pretty lame, but it's a start. How, uh... How do I take a sample? [He can't exactly draw blood or take a biopsy.]

I will consciously weaken the solidity of my current construct form. That should give you ample access to the wires with the highest probability of infestation.

[It was dangerous in her current condition, if only because there was little guarantee she would have the strength to re-solidify herself. Maintaining her form was easier than having to create an entirely new construct.]

[It was also something that required a great deal of trust, as this was Aya leaving herself at her most vulnerable.]

Once the infestation has been located, a sample of the infected wire may be removed with minimal damage. Repairs will be easy upon complete recovery.

[...that much, at least, was entirely true. She had suffered far worse physical damage, and recovered adequately.]

Okay, that sounds easy enough.

[He wouldn't be nearly so sanguine if she voiced her concerns about being able do re-solidify. But for now, he remains blissfully ignorant.]
