Easter has never been a big deal in Akito's life. He knew of the custom, and the history behind it. He's read the Bible more than once - not out of any real belief, but because he enjoyed the stories. He knows that Easter has Pagan roots and that it's a festival of life and rebirth, which is why eggs and rabbits are the stereotypical symbols for the holiday. Or at least he's pretty sure that's the reason why.
Akito is more interested in the life aspect. He wants to celebrate the lives of the people around him who have made the largest impact on his new life in Keeliai. A dinner is the best choice for it. It's hard to go wrong when there's good food on the table, and if there's one thing Akito has grown confident in it's his ability to cook.
The list of people to invite consists of eight. He only has two chairs, and a sofa that can seat three. While he has money saved up in the end it's cheaper to just construct his own seats, and it doesn't take him long to weld together six sturdy chairs from scraps of metal. It's a satisfying feeling to build and create things with his own two hands. Akito has always loved arts and crafts, building decorations or toys out of spare parts and random scraps he could find. Simplistic furniture is easy - just a step up from the bird houses he made over the past month. Just with scrap metal instead of wood.
When he sets the chairs up at the table (cleared of work for the first time in weeks) he feels a swell of pride. The chairs aren't perfect. They are sturdy and comfortable to sit in, but they aren't uniform in width, and the pieces that make up each aren't the same shape or size. It isn't as though these are decorative or made for a gift, so he doesn't mind the quirkiness of his handiwork.
The boxes that served as a coffee table now serve as end tables, and the coffee table is now more or less an actual table - pieces of metal welded together to form a sturdy base with legs, which was then welded to the bottom of a flat piece of metal. Bam. Fast and easy table. Maybe one of these days he'll try and make his apartment feel less utilitarian and... chrome. But for now it's suitable for a dinner with friends.
While Saturday is spent constructing furniture between deliveries, Sunday is spent cooking. He picked up groceries on Friday, bartering and trading for what he needed. With what he saved by crafting his own furniture rather than buying it, Akito could afford enough fruits and vegetables to feed everyone who decided to show up.
By the end of Sunday afternoon Akito has one roast and some fried fish, steamed rice, baked vegetables, two fruit pies to feed everyone with, and a small piece of chocolate for each of them. With the table set up with dishware and cups and cutlery, and the food set up on the kitchen counters for people to serve themselves, all Akito has to do now is... wait for people to show up.
To keep himself from worrying too much, he plops himself on his sofa and pulls out a pencil and notebook. While he finished his homework ages ago it never hurts to run through it again. Callaghan is really strict when it comes to showing all of his work, and sometimes he just forgets to.
Please, guests, come save Akito from his math homework. Before he decides to do it all over again, or something equally as silly.
((ooc: this is basically going to be a free-for-all, I guess? i can put up sections if need be, but for now I think just stating in the subject line what your character is doing should work fine! :) an idea of his apartment layout can be found here. since it's in the metal sector it's made with lots of metal and higher-tech stuff, but akito keeps it all simple. 8)b GET CR WITH EACH OTHER, FRIENDS!!! birb will serenade everyone))
