[Midnight Hotel] April catch-all
Characters: Anyone, everyone.
Date: Month of April, 2016.
Location: The Midnight Hotel.
Situation: Catch-all post! Feel free to use this post for anything that happens within the Midnight Hotel during the month of April, using the subject header to label specific rooms or for specific people. See also the OOC note at the bottom.
Warnings/Rating: None thus far.
The last month has seen some new faces, including a young man by the name of Yuri who’s taking over the Hotel’s breakfasts. Thanks to a suggestion by Skulduggery Pleasant, there is now a sheet on the desk for newcomers to write their names and languages—an informal Foreigner census sheet, as it were.
There is also a new feature in the lobby—a birdhouse with a peppermint-fragranced candle on the porch and an owl tucked inside to project the nest. It’s hung from the balcony over the desk, and in fact its presence there has dissolved some tensions among the kedan which had not been readily apparent until they were gone. If anyone asks, the kedan will freely explain that a house-guardian traditionally protects a homestead against nightmares, bad luck and ill-will. Fighting under the eye of a house-guardian is Very Bad Luck, even if fighting in the Hotel wasn’t bad luck already.
The garage is also newly opened, shiny and bright and still smelling of steel and brick from the construction. The Bentley has claimed her rightful place inside it, but be careful about touching her; her owner is possessive. There is a sign-up sheet at the front desk for the four fee-based work-spaces now available there. They’re medium-sized and in cubicles against the wall, with some space underneath for storage and power outlets. Chairs are bring-your-own. There are also storage spaces on the other wall, for those who’d like to lock their things away somewhere more private.
In general, however, the Hotel is running quite smoothly and more and more the kedan are relaxed about being there. Those who are regulars are less likely to call it ‘the Foreigner’s hotel’ and more likely to call it by its name, in passive recognition of its place in the city at large rather than as a representative of the outsiders.
[ooc: The Midnight Hotel’s status page is available here, with the rules at the top and ongoing status at the bottom. PLEASE POST TO THE STATUS PAGE IF YOUR CHARACTER WOULD LIKE A ROOM OR A JOB. Anton will manufacture means of payment until Foreigners are able to properly offer recompense or choose to move out.

Those coming in for breakfast will find an assortment of foods to choose from:
Crepes, Fruit Parfaits, Rice Balls, Omelette Rice, Miso Soup, Fish with Miso Sauce, Scottish Eggs, Croquettes, and sometimes maybe even a Cake. Generally this list isn't available every morning, just a few from it. Unless someone makes a request. But if there's nothing to your liking, he will take any recipes and do the best he can with it.
By the way, the croquettes are to die for. And were made with love. <3
no subject
So, moving to an empty counter, she casually crosses her arms and leans forward on her elbows to watch him cook, eyeing one of the fruit parfaits he's put together. "So you're to blame for the smell in the lobby, hm?" she greets, lifting her eyes to watch him again.
She's quick to note the way he's moving, and her eyes travel over him to search for the cause, but she won't point it out just yet.
no subject
"Hey it's better than Anton's prepackaged meals."
Sorry Anton, but fresh cooking is always better.
no subject
"I would agree, but I haven't eaten any of them," she smiles. "Or any of your cooking. So really, I've no comparison."
Still watching him, she tilted her head again at his stance. "How have you been? Any more Angels waking up in your bed?"
no subject
And with that he placed a croquette on a plate and offered it to her.
no subject
"I would say I'm flattered to be the only one, but admittedly I'm still a little freaked out by the whole experience," she grinned up at him. At the plate he placed before her, she gave a curious look. "So what is this? It smells good..."
no subject
It was a simple enough dish, but one he had grown rather fond of.
no subject
"Wow...That's..actually not bad."
no subject

And so naturally he's going to pick something that he's never made himself before: croquettes
made with love. After all, how good they are does seem to what people are gushing about in the room. So yes, one order of croquettes, if you please, and make it snappy.Hi, Yuri, have a bratty genius mage.
no subject
So with one order of croquettes, Yuri places down a plate with two of them on it and slides it over to Genis.
As if one bratty genius mage in his life wasn't enough.
no subject
He looks up to Yuri with almost a mesmerised look. "Are these yours? They smell fantastic!"
no subject
Genis' reaction was not all that different from Karol's when he first tried Yuri's croquettes. Though he didn't think they were all that special himself.
no subject
But seriously, he can't stay upset by it that long. "Finally! Someone else on this turtle that appreciates the artistry of cooking unlike so many people I know! You have got to teach me the recipe for this!"
no subject
"Some don't, huh? Sure, no problem."
The recipe wasn't that hard at all.
"All you need is potatoes, some kind of meat, onion, and there you have it. A delicious meal. It's almost as good as an apple gel after battle."
no subject
"Look, that's the ingredients list, but if it were just that simple, everyone could cook just by combining a few things together. It doesn't keep some people from burning it or turning into a thick, inedible paste." Yeah. "It's also about the technique, how long you cook it, and the right quantities of ingredients!" He pauses to add, "Though I will say, you've definitely got my taste. This would be great after working up a sweat!"
no subject
Some people just have natural talent Genis. Surely you can relate with that?
"So what do you do that makes you work up a sweat?"
no subject
"As for what I do? Oh you know, the usual. Coming in the kitchen. Beating up monsters with magic. Travelling all over the world, trying to keep it from dying. Nothing big." Sarcasm alert.
no subject
That's something he could relate with. As well as traveling all over the world. This kid sounded like someone he could like. Especially with that sarcasm.
no subject
"Oh, I know a thing or two. I mean, I really can't count the number of monsters we beat up as we were travelling all over the world." Yeah, brag it up, Genis. "Probably somewhere in the thousands. There were a couple that were pretty tough, like the dragons, but most of them were piece o' cake for me."
no subject
Yes, he's feeding into it on purpose.
"You don't say. I know a few monster slayers myself. Like the Captain."
no subject
Thanks, Yuri, for making this 12 year old feel important.
"So who's this Captain guy you're talking about. Someone from some sort of guard or something?"
no subject
"Not exactly. He used to be a member of a guild that hunted monsters. Now he's the boss of our guild."
Granted he's kinda leaving out a few details, but Genis won't know that.
no subject
"Whoa, so you're part of an organisation that goes out and hunts monsters?" Because of course Genis wouldn't only assume that the organisation must be something similar. "Your Captain must be a pretty good monster killer then."
Somewhere, far away, Rita cringes.
