[EVENT|4TH WALL] THE NEWCOMERS’ ARRIVAL | APRIL 15-22
Characters: ALL and plus ones.
Date: April 15-22 2015 (2016 in-game)
Location: Farmlands outside the city walls, but this log can also be used for locations within the city.
Situation: Spring planting - fourth wall event, week one!
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.
The days for the festival dawn sunny if a bit chilly, but the air is clear and the soggy ground has dried enough that there isn’t too much mud in the lanes between fields and homesteads. The broad dirt path to the Woodsmen’s land leads past the tram-line construction, lined with waving ribbons on sticks along the sides. The Woodsmen’s territory circles the city, separated from the city’s walls by five hundred yards of neutral land.
The festival’s central area is Liangken’s Clearing, and this is where the festival will begin and end each day. Liangken is an ancient tree, among the oldest on the turtle’s back. Though it doesn’t flower or bear much in the way of leaves anymore, the kedan have cultivated it carefully and now it’s an excellent representation for the revitalisation of old wisdom.

The lanes between the fields and homesteads will house the stalls, contests and walking areas. The Woodsmen will be keeping an eye on these to prevent anyone from walking off the marked paths. The homesteads provide ‘hotspots’ in among the lanes and fields, with Woodsmen families lending their yards to the comfort and entertainment of their guests.
In general, the Woodsmen are a taciturn, soft-spoken lot who nevertheless take great pride in their work. Their lands are all but sacred -- they accept no attitude, no trespassing, no attempts to thwart their authority. This causes some noticeable tension with the Snakes, who are accustomed to being the sole enforcers within the city; but though there may be some ill tempers and raised voices, at no point will anyone come to blows. It’s hard to argue with someone built like a brick wall and carrying sharp farm implements.
The Woodsmen are a touch anxious about having strangers on their land and this shows in them being overly officious or bossy, but at the same time their pride shows clearly and they are eager to show off the state of their lands, their greenhouses, and their farming processes -- practically without being asked. The residents of Keeliai tend to think of the Woodsmen as ‘cowards’, and the Woodsmen are taking this opportunity to prove themselves otherwise with feats of strength and tall tales.
Due to the farmers’ hours of “early to bed and early to rise”, the festival ends in the early evening at sundown, but begins again before dawn -- usually by greeting the sun with a song.

While Heojin and his bodyguards are open to everyone (including fourth-wall characters!), they are not available for small talk and general directionless CR. For the integrity of the mod’s inbox, please only request a thread with him if you already have an idea of what you’d like your character to ask/do. Other NPCs can be requested by sending a PM to the appropriate journals directly, with the same guidelines.
The top-level comments are for the festival, but fourth-wall characters should feel free to use the rest of the post for anything within the city of Keeliai itself! Just remember to label the top-level comment for location and date.

Tenzin glances between them for a moment. It was almost as if...
...but no, that was impossible.
But those old-style Southern Water Tribe robes, that hair...
"Aang," he repeated quietly, brows knit in confusion, "and... Katara?"
An unsure smile crosses his face. Surely, that feeling in his gut was just anxiety from being spirited away to this unfamiliar place. "Are you children playing some sort of game? Pretending to be the Avatar and his wife?"
no subject
This whole thing is ridiculous.
That his own grown son would show up in the middle of a festival on the back of a giant turtle so shortly after he and Katara were...well...were.
It was just ridiculous.
"yeahsomethinglikethat," he says finally looking between the two of them.
"Um...Katara, this is...this is Tenzin. This is Korra's airbending teacher."
Maybe mentioning Korra again will help make him feel less like he's going crazy.

WIFE.
WIFE.
Her grip on his hand might just tighten a little.
"It's not a game--we're--I mean--"
But wait.
"...Korra's airbending teacher?" she repeats, looking up at Tenzin. "But if you were the last... And we..." She motions weakly between herself and the young avatar, looking to him incredulously; how is he not freaking out as well?! "Then... You..."
She turns to Tenzin, her eyes huge. The pieces fall into place too easily.

"...I feel I'm missing some very important context here."

Give Aang a second to find some words, they're a little hard to come by what with all the internal screaming going on in the back of his mind.
"Pretending. I'm not pretending. I earned my arrows and I'm not in a costume and....Just...here, look at this."
Aang hands the flower garland he'd been working on to Katara, freeing up his hand to retrieve some bits and bobs from his pocket.
Because Aang at any age can be relied upon to have bizarre things in his pockets at all times. Including, but limited to, marbles.
He'll need both hands for this, so he presses a kiss to the back of Katara's wrist before wresting his hand free of hers.
And then follows the marble trick, in all its sublime glory.

Oh, he wants to believe it. He wants desperately to believe that this young airbender in front of him is the father he wishes so badly to have back in his life. But no, that can't be.
"You're so... so..."
He gesticulates aimlessly with his hands, figures clutching at air as if he could grasp the words he wanted right from the air.
no subject
This is their son.

no subject
He just shouldn't.
But right now...they're both making the exact same face and...Aang can't stop himself.
"Impossible was having dinner with Wan and Korra, this is just weird."
There's a beat then Aang sort of pushes the marbles into Tenzin's hands, before turning his attention to Katara.
"are you okay sweetie?" he asks her quietly.

Numbly, Tenzin looked down at the trinkets in his hand, then back to the -- his parents? How on Earth was that possible?
But as he watched Aang tenderly go to Katara's side, he felt a warm smile cross his face. Really, watching them like this... somehow, it was a little bit easier to believe.

Within the span of a week, Aang had been mugged, nearly died in her arms, she had finally accepted and fully returned his feelings, and now they were meeting their son. Even mature as she was at such a young age, it was a lot to take in.
The more she thought, the more realizations there were, and she looked to Tenzin, keeping a hold on at least one of Aang's hands for now.
"Do you, uh... have any siblings, Ten..zin?"
The name sounded... right, in a way she couldn't place.
no subject
So when Katara asks, Aang turns his attention towards Tenzin...and excitedly waits for him to speak.
No pressure.
Just...his parents in their early-mid teens...waiting for story-time.
In the middle of a hustle and bustle festival on the back of a giant turtle.
no subject
"I do," he said warmly, smiling, offering a hand to each of them. "Let's find a place to sit down, and I'll tell you all about my brother and sister."
no subject
Not only is the man before her her son, but there are two more. A powerful bender.... The woman had been right. The avatar.
Aang.
despite the incredulty of the situation, she's desperate now to learn more. Her boyfriend's-- husband's?!-- excitement is infectious.
When Tenzin offers his hand, she hesitates, but resolves to have courage. She releases Aang's hand and takes her sons, allowing him to lead her as she sure she will in her distant future.
Or... Does. Did.
"So what are they like?"
no subject
If you don't know to look for it, or blink while you do, you're likely to miss it.
The look of concern that quickly washes over Aang's face when Katara lets go of his hand.
It's not that Aang's jealous, or even envious, it's just that...she's not touching him...
blink.
It's gone. Gone and quickly replaced by a wide smile.
He doesn't take Tenzin's other hand because he's too busy airbending himself straight up into the air several feet into the air looking for a place where they can sit and talk uninterrupted.
When he finds one he makes a break for it, shouting, "This way!" over his shoulder before disappearing into the crowd.
This miiiiiight just be how he got separated by his minders in the first place.
With permission from Katara-mun!
"For starters," he says dryly, glancing back in Aang's direction, "my brother, Bumi, is a lot like that."
And with that he launches into the air, calling upon the currents to safely guide and lead them along Aang's path. The wind rushes past them as Tenzin picks up speed, all but running in the air itself and slowly but surely catching up to his father.
<3
Too late. He's darted off. Again.
With a scowl of frustration that mirrors Tenzin's exactly, she sighs and resigns herself to be without him for just a few more minutes. It's short lived, however, and she gives her son a quizzical look. "Bumi?" They named--
There's barely a moment to finish the thought, however, before she's scooped up and launching into the air.
Clinging to her son's robes, she thinks to herself how desperately she needs to get used to things like this.
Airbenders.
