[EVENT|4TH WALL] THE NEWCOMERS’ ARRIVAL | APRIL 15-22
Characters: ALL and plus ones.
Date: April 15-22 2015 (2016 in-game)
Location: Farmlands outside the city walls, but this log can also be used for locations within the city.
Situation: Spring planting - fourth wall event, week one!
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.
The days for the festival dawn sunny if a bit chilly, but the air is clear and the soggy ground has dried enough that there isn’t too much mud in the lanes between fields and homesteads. The broad dirt path to the Woodsmen’s land leads past the tram-line construction, lined with waving ribbons on sticks along the sides. The Woodsmen’s territory circles the city, separated from the city’s walls by five hundred yards of neutral land.
The festival’s central area is Liangken’s Clearing, and this is where the festival will begin and end each day. Liangken is an ancient tree, among the oldest on the turtle’s back. Though it doesn’t flower or bear much in the way of leaves anymore, the kedan have cultivated it carefully and now it’s an excellent representation for the revitalisation of old wisdom.

The lanes between the fields and homesteads will house the stalls, contests and walking areas. The Woodsmen will be keeping an eye on these to prevent anyone from walking off the marked paths. The homesteads provide ‘hotspots’ in among the lanes and fields, with Woodsmen families lending their yards to the comfort and entertainment of their guests.
In general, the Woodsmen are a taciturn, soft-spoken lot who nevertheless take great pride in their work. Their lands are all but sacred -- they accept no attitude, no trespassing, no attempts to thwart their authority. This causes some noticeable tension with the Snakes, who are accustomed to being the sole enforcers within the city; but though there may be some ill tempers and raised voices, at no point will anyone come to blows. It’s hard to argue with someone built like a brick wall and carrying sharp farm implements.
The Woodsmen are a touch anxious about having strangers on their land and this shows in them being overly officious or bossy, but at the same time their pride shows clearly and they are eager to show off the state of their lands, their greenhouses, and their farming processes -- practically without being asked. The residents of Keeliai tend to think of the Woodsmen as ‘cowards’, and the Woodsmen are taking this opportunity to prove themselves otherwise with feats of strength and tall tales.
Due to the farmers’ hours of “early to bed and early to rise”, the festival ends in the early evening at sundown, but begins again before dawn -- usually by greeting the sun with a song.

While Heojin and his bodyguards are open to everyone (including fourth-wall characters!), they are not available for small talk and general directionless CR. For the integrity of the mod’s inbox, please only request a thread with him if you already have an idea of what you’d like your character to ask/do. Other NPCs can be requested by sending a PM to the appropriate journals directly, with the same guidelines.
The top-level comments are for the festival, but fourth-wall characters should feel free to use the rest of the post for anything within the city of Keeliai itself! Just remember to label the top-level comment for location and date.

"Yes?" Could I ask you something? Ah, that would explain it. "Certainly. What is it I may assist you with?"
no subject
At the very least, if he could find something to tinker with and keep his hands busy while he worried himself sick about them, that would be a start.

From the moment he mentioned he was a scientist, Aya immediately understood. Though her expression turned...almost sad when he mentioned children. Sympathetic, possibly even empathetic towards his current plight, knowing that she would not be able to offer the response he was so clearly seeking.
"My apologies." A slight bow of the head to show she was genuine. "Currently, there are no devices capable of transmitting communication signals beyond the outer reaches of our current place of residence. The Network is intra-communal only."
no subject
He paused, glancing her over another moment more. Her look was vaguely reminiscent of his own son's armor, and he couldn't help but wonder: "If it's all right to ask, miss, are you a robot?"
no subject
"Yes. I am." It was always more of a surprise to her when people didn't recognize this fact on sight than when then did. "Why do you ask?"
no subject
"AI and Robotics are my specialties back home. It's good to see that there are other worlds out there that clearly value this field as much as I do -- It's clear someone took great care in your design."
no subject
There was a fleeting moment of...something...that washed over Aya's eyes. Shadowy. A mixture of sadness, anger, and regret. Gone almost as quickly as it appeared, because she knew that the care this man spoke of could not, in any way, be credited to her Creator.
"Thank you." Granted, there were highly complicated circumstances surrounding her physical form as it appeared now, but there would be time to discuss those later. Maybe. "It was not difficult. Once I had selected the imprint recorded in my database, construction was simple. All the necessary parts were readily at my disposal."
no subject
His eyes light up at her revelation. "You designed this form yourself? Why, thats... that's remarkable!" He brings his hands up, gesturing toward her to try and communicate his excitement. "With that kind of independence, you must be incredibly advanced!"
Give him a second, Aya. He just needs to get this out of his system. He looks her up and down again like he were inspecting a work of art.
"Incredible. Not just in the design, but the movement... The movement's always the hardest part to get right. And the eyes. But you've got so much..." He brought a hand near his face, motioning toward his own eyes, "...life in your expression. That's so difficult to replicate, even for a human, and you've accomplished it yourself!"
She was a bit stiff, certainly, in her movement and mannerisms, but there was that spark of life in her eyes nonetheless. That was the important part.

Aya had been praised before. Congratulatory words offered for a job well-done, particularly coming from Hal Jordan, had always meant a great deal to her. Acceptance. Care. Even Razer, whom only a short time prior had indirectly insulted her very existence though harsh words offered for the Manhunters, had told her something she often replayed in her memory banks over and over again.
You have more of a soul than I have ever had.
No single phrase had ever held such importance to her before. Or since.
But this was...different. These were the words of one who saw her from the view of a Creator. Who admired both her person and her design with equal interest. The comparison to a human did not go unnoticed, but there would be time to explain why he was misinformed later. Perhaps.
"That is, perhaps, because I am alive."
Hers was nor a statement of a naive little robot trying to play Real Girl. She spoke with a knowing clarity, fully aware of its significance.
"Though I do not recall the circumstances of my birth, I can assure you...I am equally organic as I am technological."
no subject
He steps a little closer -- not too close; He has his personal space, and he's sure she does too. But he takes another glance over her face. "If I ever achieve that, I hope my creation is every bit as kind and intelligent as you seem to be."
There's a pause and Thomas jerks as if shaken from a stupor, and quickly offers a hand. "I'm sorry, where are my manners? I'm Dr. Thomas Light."
no subject
"A pleasure, Dr. Thomas Light. I am Aya."
The similarity to A.I. was not coincidental; in fact, it played a large part in how she had gotten her name in the first place.
no subject
He paused, considering that, then added: "If you're comfortable with that, of course. Given your independence, I'm sure you have other things taking up your time as well."

And in a moment, his smile returned. "Aya, you've already been so helpful in such a short time; I don't know how I can possibly thank you.."

should prolly wrap this up soon
I'm okay with calling it here~
"Likewise."
