018 ✤ open

Characters: Wanijima Akito, Agito + OPEN
Date: April 15th +
Location: Everywhere
Situation: Introducing Agito to Keeliai
Warnings/Rating: Agito has a potty mouth

It hadn't taken Agito very long after his arrival (panicked and scared and alone for the first time in his life) to be directed to where Akito apparently was living. Living - as though his other half had been there for much longer than the few minutes Agito had, and somehow that is the scariest part. He's meant to protect Akito. To keep him safe. How long had Akito been here all on his own?

After the better part of an hour, Agito finds himself standing on the doorstep of 'Gazelle Delivery' and almost scared to knock. Scared to see how Akito is doing without him. Worried that his other half is hurting, yet equally worried that he's thriving (what if he isn't needed anymore?). The choice is taken out of his hands when the door in front of him suddenly opens and he's left staring at what is supposed to be his mirror image (and maybe is, to people who don't look hard enough).

They initially have identical expressions of shock. What else could they be? This is the first time they've seen each other outside of their mind. But then Agito's expression falls into shame. Regret. Guilt. He can see the way Akito's face has lost much of the remaining baby fat. The way his body shape is ever so slightly different; more soft lines contrasted with sharp edges. The face of someone older.

The shock on Akito's face takes longer to disappear, but when it does it's replaced with teary-eyed joy mixed with blatant disbelief. And it's so so Akito that Agito finds himself lunging forward to pull his better half into a protective embrace before he can even comprehend what he's doing. They crumple into a pile on Akito's entrance way, shaking and muttering incomprehensible phrases meant to soothe. Akito stains his jacket with snot and tears, thin back heaving with how hard he cries as Agito rubs comforting circles along his shoulders.

I thought I would never see you again.

Those words are a knife to Agito's heart, and he holds Akito even tighter. Buries his face into hair that smells like vanilla and honey with an undercurrent of metal and oil. It's unfamiliar and familiar all at once. It's overwhelming. Agito doesn't know what to do.

They stay like that - in a heap on the ground - for far too long until a bird (Bird the bird, he later learns) decides it has had enough of their nonsense and wants an introduction. Akito laughs, wet and raspy, but it makes Agito feel lighter than he has since his arrival.

It takes a while to pick themselves up, trying to figure out whose limb is whose. Because for all that Akito's body has changed, they are still far too similar (not similar enough). Agito's body matched Akito's in height (he noticed those scant few centimetres' difference) but that seemed to be the only change that was the same between them. Akito was still softer (always was, even when they shared a body. it never made sense, but Agito never questioned it), and Agito was sharp as ever; hips straight and jutting while Akito's curve in a way his own don't and never have. It makes him wonder if the differences between them were from using the same body in different ways, or if there really was a physical change between them now.

Agito makes himself at home on Akito's sofa, with the latter curled up on his lap and pressed up as close to him as he can possibly get. He doesn't complain, because he has the same compulsion to stay as close as physically possible. The bird seems to understand they need to be alone and leaves them be, letting Akito quietly fill Agito in on all the time he's been absent - over a year's worth (it makes him sick. the most important person in his life has been alone and hurting for all this time).

It takes hours. Hours and hours and hours. Neither separates more than necessary the entire time. Akito wrapped around Agito like a vine and Agito running fingers through Akito's hair and over his back and arms while trying to comprehend how all of this could have happened. He shouldn't be able to touch his other half like this. It's nice, but this isn't how they're supposed to be.

Akito is the one who eventually suggests taking Agito on a tour of the city.

I have some friends here, he explains. Agito isn't surprised. Akito was always so much better at people than him, and it's hard for anyone not to adore his better half.

Despite how badly Agito wants to keep Akito wrapped up safely in his arms until his mind settles, he also knows Akito needs this as much as he does - establishing some sort of normalcy when none can be found. Sharing in the things that kept him strong in Agito's absence. And he would be lying if he said he wasn't interested.

They go by foot, starting with the Fire Sector and working their way back around until they reach the Metal Sector again. Akito makes sure to introduce him to everyone he's remotely acquainted with, and it isn't long into their journey that it's Agito clinging tightly to Akito's hand rather than the other way around. He's never been good with people. And he doesn't like the way they stare at them both. It makes him want to grow big enough to hide Akito under him like a hen with her chicks. To keep him warm and safe and away from the prying eyes of people who might want to harm the most precious person in Agito's world.

In the Fire Sector, they are welcome to see a flash of auburn hair and a long skirt. Alayne is enjoying a drink from a local cafe with a sketchpad under one arm. She has become particularly fond of the berry lemonade - something that combines some of her favorite flavors - though her lips pucker with each sip. But the tartness is worth it and she smiles to herself as she steps out onto the sidewalk.

That is when she spots the pair.

"Akito?" she blinks and turns to face him, curious, "Do you have a visitor?"

Twin, hm? The only twins she has met are Cersei and Jaime Lannister. Akito and Agito are much cuter and far more friendly. Alayne gives Agito a curtsy in greeting, delighted at Akito's happiness.

"I'm honored to meet you! Akito has been a good friend to me." her voice softens, "Are you enjoying Tu Shanshu?"

It is a strange thing to say and yet she understands. Hating becomes a part of everyday life when you are surrounded by enemies. She can only assume Agito found himself in such a situation before he arrived. Voice softening, she leans down and gives both boys a warm, hopefully comforting smile.

"I know how you feel. Before I came here, there were many people I hated too." but for all its oddities, Tu Shanshu has taught her to have hope.

Accelerator has been spending a fair amount of his spare time walking around the Metal Sector. For Reasons. To learn the main streets, the general layout, hidden alleys and roads, and the locations of major businesses. Before he goes and does too much moonlighting on rooftops, he wants to cement much of the Sector into his memory and working knowledge.

On one of those days, he happens to spot a patch of vibrant blue hair out of the corner of his eye. No, two patches, he confirms, now that he's stopped and turned to look. His brow furrows. "Shit, you multiplied." Twins? Or maybe clones. His utmost familiarity with the Misaka Sisters has the idea of someone walking around with their clone in broad daylight much higher up on the list of possibilities he considers than normal people.

It figures that they didn't notice. While he didn't speak it all that softly, the boys did seem to be wrapped up in their clothes shopping. He'll have to get closer and speak up.

It takes him a good long minute or so of thinking, no, debating to himself whether he should approach. With the way Akito and his mirror likeness are, it seems almost intrusive to break into that. The whole 'attempting friendliness' thing is like some barely understandable foreign custom that he'd rather stab to death than go through the awkward, uncomfortable motions of. That sort of thing has been a constant debate in his mind ever since his first meeting with The Will. Whether or not doing something within her expectations needs to be done then and there, or can be put off and ignored. It'd be easy to just pass them by after all and save things for another day. That's why she was firm about wanting to see him struggle—because the other options are so easy.

In the end he does approach. While he's irritated with himself, he acknowledges it'll probably go quickly, which is fine with him. Might as well get to it. He needs clothes for himself, anyway. He can always slip off to another section to do that (whether or not 'afterward' is very soon or a while from now) once he's dealt with this.

Stopping a meter or two away from them, Accelerator speaks up with strong inflections. "Akito. Who's the brat with you?" Twin. Clone. Doppelganger. Whichever it is, the exact details don't particularly matter. He skips over asking that and goes straight to the more important question.

He's actually just letting himself in to the apartment when he hears the familiar voice; Robert pauses with his hand on the door, turning towards Akito and-

Akito's twin? No, there's differences there, but there's enough similarities for that initial double-take.

"Well," Callaghan says by way of greeting, "who's this?"

It's somehow funny to see such a disagreeable expression on the one face and a more pleasant one on a matching face. That sort of dissonance can only happen with clones or identical twins. Although most of the Misaka sisters are largely expressionless, Accelerator sees such sharp differences in WORST and Last Order sometimes.

Agito's insult holds about as much impact as water on a duck's back; in other words, so little it just rolls right off. Rolling his eyes in response, he then flicks his gaze between the two, listening to Akito's introductions and adjusting his stance as he leans on his cane.

"...Akito and Agito. Heh. I suppose that's better than only serial numbers for the difference." An idle thought enters his mind, only to be quickly quashed. "Let me guess, he's new." The way Akito spoke about his business and how much it took for him to get his own place the last time they spoke gave Accelerator the impression that the kid had had no one else to rely on. He could be wrong, he just has a hunch about this.

Named after a vehicle part? That one isn't new. It's also blatantly incorrect. He lets out a scoff of a laugh, mouth widening in a shadow of the old grins he used to flash people to unnerve or intimidate. "You're not the first one to draw that wrong conclusion, shrimp. I'll spare you the explanation behind it, though. I really fucking doubt you give a shit." Why waste his breath? It'd be another story if Akito actually gave a damn. Should the guy ask, he'll answer.

He turns toward Akito after that. "I see. That group. There's been a bunch of them staying in the hotel." Given that he lives and works there, Accelerator has seen them a number of times. They're hard to miss. "Aren't you lucky." The words come out so flat the questioning intonation is completely absent.

The way Akito looks and sounds so happy and enthusiastic reminds him of Last Order's frequently carefree and childlike behavior. Maybe it was just due to her programming and incompletely developed emotions, but there's something pure and innocent about her smiles sometimes that belies all of the pain and suffering tucked within the memories she shares with all the clones, living or dead, in the network. Thinking back to that, it's not difficult for him to feel a slight twinge inside.

Looking between the boys while Akito continues to tend to Agito, he goes silent just long enough for the break in conversation to be notable. Then he breaks it. "There was something I meant to bring up when I ran into you again. It looks like right now is shitty timing, though."
valevectorian: (you're goddamn immature)

[personal profile] valevectorian 2015-05-19 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He looks between the two, giving Agito a silent eyeroll on seeing the look he was giving him. He turns his attention back to Akito.

"It's been bugging me for a while, but I'll keep it brief. What did you hope to gain by suggesting I sell those prints?" Blueprints that he did wind up selling after all, given some time to think about it. Akito would probably know that it did happen if he bothered to listen to others' conversations in the responses to Zanru's announcement. Accelerator doesn't know whether or not the brat did, but it's safe to assume he might have.

Ever since their initial conversation in the hotel lobby Accelerator has been at a loss as to Akito's motivation. They're almost complete strangers. Who the hell would do that without something in it for themselves?

"No one tips off someone they barely know a way to make that much money for no reason. I can't imagine my advice on figuring out your age was worth that much." In his experience... well, his experiences are pretty warped, he knows that much. But it's difficult to get away from the mindset crafted from being surrounded by scientists and researchers who only ever bothered with him because it benefited them somehow. The few exceptions he knows are the exceptions that prove the rule.

"Because people like that generally don't exist in real life," he spits out. He averts his gaze. "It's not that I don't appreciate it, but it weird me the fuck out." And keeps him guessing about the real reason. Then again, this is a guy who brushed off someone helping him against an enemy because he thought she only teleported his gun to within his reach so she could bask in the glory of his life being owed to her afterward and try to make him feel indebted to her.

Accelerator just shoots Agito a Look. "Go find a chew toy to occupy that mouth of yours, shrimp. This is between him and me." He takes a deep breath, holding back the urge to flip him the middle finger. He opts instead for pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Just forget I said anything, Akito."

Watching the two, Accelerator can only frown. He lets out a small sigh.

"The first time I met a decent human being was about six, maybe seven months ago." Perhaps an overstatement; he's known Yoshikawa for longer, but had just lumped her in with all the others until then because there had been no reason to believe she wouldn't eventually become like the rest anyway. Aside of her, he honestly can't think of any he knew from before then. "Sorry, but it's a little hard to just expect someone who does that not to have ulterior motives. You still want me to fuck off? Fine, I will."

Accelerator can't help but shoot Agito an irritated glare. He doesn't bother responding to him, though. The brat doesn't know a thing, and this isn't worth wasting his breath on.

He flicks his gaze back over to Akito, expression loosening up. Now he just looks plain uncomfortable. "...No. That was all. I've taken up enough of your time already."
