018 ✤ open

Characters: Wanijima Akito, Agito + OPEN
Date: April 15th +
Location: Everywhere
Situation: Introducing Agito to Keeliai
Warnings/Rating: Agito has a potty mouth

It hadn't taken Agito very long after his arrival (panicked and scared and alone for the first time in his life) to be directed to where Akito apparently was living. Living - as though his other half had been there for much longer than the few minutes Agito had, and somehow that is the scariest part. He's meant to protect Akito. To keep him safe. How long had Akito been here all on his own?

After the better part of an hour, Agito finds himself standing on the doorstep of 'Gazelle Delivery' and almost scared to knock. Scared to see how Akito is doing without him. Worried that his other half is hurting, yet equally worried that he's thriving (what if he isn't needed anymore?). The choice is taken out of his hands when the door in front of him suddenly opens and he's left staring at what is supposed to be his mirror image (and maybe is, to people who don't look hard enough).

They initially have identical expressions of shock. What else could they be? This is the first time they've seen each other outside of their mind. But then Agito's expression falls into shame. Regret. Guilt. He can see the way Akito's face has lost much of the remaining baby fat. The way his body shape is ever so slightly different; more soft lines contrasted with sharp edges. The face of someone older.

The shock on Akito's face takes longer to disappear, but when it does it's replaced with teary-eyed joy mixed with blatant disbelief. And it's so so Akito that Agito finds himself lunging forward to pull his better half into a protective embrace before he can even comprehend what he's doing. They crumple into a pile on Akito's entrance way, shaking and muttering incomprehensible phrases meant to soothe. Akito stains his jacket with snot and tears, thin back heaving with how hard he cries as Agito rubs comforting circles along his shoulders.

I thought I would never see you again.

Those words are a knife to Agito's heart, and he holds Akito even tighter. Buries his face into hair that smells like vanilla and honey with an undercurrent of metal and oil. It's unfamiliar and familiar all at once. It's overwhelming. Agito doesn't know what to do.

They stay like that - in a heap on the ground - for far too long until a bird (Bird the bird, he later learns) decides it has had enough of their nonsense and wants an introduction. Akito laughs, wet and raspy, but it makes Agito feel lighter than he has since his arrival.

It takes a while to pick themselves up, trying to figure out whose limb is whose. Because for all that Akito's body has changed, they are still far too similar (not similar enough). Agito's body matched Akito's in height (he noticed those scant few centimetres' difference) but that seemed to be the only change that was the same between them. Akito was still softer (always was, even when they shared a body. it never made sense, but Agito never questioned it), and Agito was sharp as ever; hips straight and jutting while Akito's curve in a way his own don't and never have. It makes him wonder if the differences between them were from using the same body in different ways, or if there really was a physical change between them now.

Agito makes himself at home on Akito's sofa, with the latter curled up on his lap and pressed up as close to him as he can possibly get. He doesn't complain, because he has the same compulsion to stay as close as physically possible. The bird seems to understand they need to be alone and leaves them be, letting Akito quietly fill Agito in on all the time he's been absent - over a year's worth (it makes him sick. the most important person in his life has been alone and hurting for all this time).

It takes hours. Hours and hours and hours. Neither separates more than necessary the entire time. Akito wrapped around Agito like a vine and Agito running fingers through Akito's hair and over his back and arms while trying to comprehend how all of this could have happened. He shouldn't be able to touch his other half like this. It's nice, but this isn't how they're supposed to be.

Akito is the one who eventually suggests taking Agito on a tour of the city.

I have some friends here, he explains. Agito isn't surprised. Akito was always so much better at people than him, and it's hard for anyone not to adore his better half.

Despite how badly Agito wants to keep Akito wrapped up safely in his arms until his mind settles, he also knows Akito needs this as much as he does - establishing some sort of normalcy when none can be found. Sharing in the things that kept him strong in Agito's absence. And he would be lying if he said he wasn't interested.

They go by foot, starting with the Fire Sector and working their way back around until they reach the Metal Sector again. Akito makes sure to introduce him to everyone he's remotely acquainted with, and it isn't long into their journey that it's Agito clinging tightly to Akito's hand rather than the other way around. He's never been good with people. And he doesn't like the way they stare at them both. It makes him want to grow big enough to hide Akito under him like a hen with her chicks. To keep him warm and safe and away from the prying eyes of people who might want to harm the most precious person in Agito's world.

"No one tips off someone they barely know a way to make that much money for no reason. I can't imagine my advice on figuring out your age was worth that much." In his experience... well, his experiences are pretty warped, he knows that much. But it's difficult to get away from the mindset crafted from being surrounded by scientists and researchers who only ever bothered with him because it benefited them somehow. The few exceptions he knows are the exceptions that prove the rule.

"Because people like that generally don't exist in real life," he spits out. He averts his gaze. "It's not that I don't appreciate it, but it weird me the fuck out." And keeps him guessing about the real reason. Then again, this is a guy who brushed off someone helping him against an enemy because he thought she only teleported his gun to within his reach so she could bask in the glory of his life being owed to her afterward and try to make him feel indebted to her.

Accelerator just shoots Agito a Look. "Go find a chew toy to occupy that mouth of yours, shrimp. This is between him and me." He takes a deep breath, holding back the urge to flip him the middle finger. He opts instead for pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Just forget I said anything, Akito."

Watching the two, Accelerator can only frown. He lets out a small sigh.

"The first time I met a decent human being was about six, maybe seven months ago." Perhaps an overstatement; he's known Yoshikawa for longer, but had just lumped her in with all the others until then because there had been no reason to believe she wouldn't eventually become like the rest anyway. Aside of her, he honestly can't think of any he knew from before then. "Sorry, but it's a little hard to just expect someone who does that not to have ulterior motives. You still want me to fuck off? Fine, I will."

Accelerator can't help but shoot Agito an irritated glare. He doesn't bother responding to him, though. The brat doesn't know a thing, and this isn't worth wasting his breath on.

He flicks his gaze back over to Akito, expression loosening up. Now he just looks plain uncomfortable. "...No. That was all. I've taken up enough of your time already."
