[EVENT] Courtyard of Public Opinion, May Forum

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: The 24th of May
Location: The Courtyard of Public Opinion, in Central Sector
Situation: This is the second public forum to be called since the Foreigners' return. It's led by the three family heads, but specifically designed to allow anyone the chance to speak. This particular one was called because of the Foreigner muggings, the Chihulean threat, and the rumours of remaining cultists; however, a variety of other things might get brought up as well.
Warnings/Rating: Added as they become applicable.

The Courtyard of Public Opinion isn't any bigger than some of the open fountain areas in the Water Sector, and it isn't set up the way some of the Foreigners might imagine a political debate area to be set up. There's no podium, no chairs apart from the stone benches too heavy to be moved, and no grand banners or archways. This is done deliberately; everyone is meant to have an equal voice in the Courtyard, so everyone is on level ground. Apart from the greenery, the stone paths, and the low stone walls surrounding the Courtyard, one could almost imagine it's just another Market Day in an open square.

Since the Foreigners are also residents of Keeliai, the Courtyard Forum will be a public opportunity for Foreigners to ask questions and air concerns of their own. This can range from something specific to individuals or making requests of all the major NPCs.

OOC
There are starters for various parts of the discussion, covering all the major topics regarding the happenings of Keeliai lately. NPCs will be available for all of the conversations below. The first five topics are general city occurrences which everyone in the Courtyard will be able to hear; use these threads as discussion between PCs as well as NPCs. NPCs will contribute to discussions as necessary, but won't be engaging in every line of conversation occurring in the general topic starters.

The NPC comments are for directly speaking with that NPC or those in that group; if your character has a specific issue to bring up with an NPC, this is where it should be done. The rest of the post is for Foreigners talking and organizing amongst themselves.

"It's a good habit to get into," she chides, but it's purely in the tone of a goodnatured Healer than any actual criticism.

"Did I? Ah, that's silly of me! Respect is a funny thing, you know. Of all the things you wish you could bottle, and take like a supplement when you're feeling peckish for it! Peckish, what a word. I used to think it only referred to hunger, turns out I was wrong. Make a fist for me, dear. That's right, thank you."

Despite her chatter, Milyn has the needle into a vein within seconds, and the vial filling.

Milyn was a lot like Larrikin--almost painfully so, in some ways. She hadn't actually answered the statement. She talked, to fill their air yes but also to distract and dissemble. Anton hadn't actively avoided her, but that association was what kept him from seeking her out, as well.

Anton watched her with something between nostalgia and resigned indulgence, and declined to pursue the parts her words danced around.

It was always morbid watching the vial fill, so he didn't; it never did any good to linger on the sight of blood, even if he didn't cause it. "I didn't realise Keeliai had the facilities," he said simply instead, which was quite true.

Milyn disengaged the vial with one hand, then removed the needle and had a dab of gauze there to stem the few drops that escaped at the point's withdraw. She followed it up with a smudge of purple ooze, about the consistency of peanut butter, which worked to prevent any further bleeding.

"We're not so backwards progressively as some people like to think," she smiled. "We've discovered medical procedures right after we tamed wildfire."

"It may be an unfortunate side-effect of modernity to believe that modernity invented everything," Anton answered with a smile of his own. The gel she put on his arm wasn't dissimilar to the sorts of semi-magical remedies available in his world, so he didn't poke or prod it or roll down his sleeve. "I've noticed much the same attitude among modern cultures when they regard what they see as cultures of the past."

Whereas he had lived a great many changes and could say quite certainly that some 'progressions' had required regressions before they became the progressions modernity believed they were.

"I hardly think most of the Foreigners see us as advanced," the Healer conceded. "I wonder if we'd all do so well, if kedan were drawn into your worlds."
gistful: (it's not enough)

"A consideration worth having," Anton said. "We must all consider what we would do in another's place, or we risk judging others unfairly. Is that all you require?" He could very easily clean off the salve at his own discretion, if Milyn didn't need anything else.

"Mhm, that's all I've got for today!" she chirped with a smile, efficiently packing the blood sample securely away where it wouldn't break. "I do appreciate your time, dear."
gistful: (why give in?)

"You're quite welcome, Lady Milyn." Anton used a swab to wipe off the salve and then rolled down his sleeve, and bowed toward Milyn. "Good luck."

Then he turned to move off into the crowd.
