EVENT | LANDFALL | ZESHORA

Characters: ALL!
Date: June 17th to July 8th
Location: Zeshora
Situation: Tu Vishan has washed up near the cities of Atoce and Uessaire.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

The cities of Zeshora were renowned across all of Konryu as works of art, and even with the upheaval which sank and destroyed many of them centuries prior, that distinction remains evident. The Erol'a will recount, if asked, a terrible series of earthquakes and resultant tsunamis that rolled over Zeshora, and how great chunks of the continent simply dropped away. Zeshora was one of the oldest continents, and its landmasses upon the backs of long-dead Great Turtles had been so constant, that no one had even thought it possible such a thing could have happened.

Testament to the Erol'a's resilience however, they adapted and reclaimed the cities that had fallen to, or just below, sea level. Arches, pillars and soaring ceilings dominate the architecture in both cities, and every surface is painstakingly decorated with tiny inlaid shells and coral, turning every hall and room into a mosaic of colour. It's not uncommon for Erol'a dwellings to have multiple stories, and likewise it's not unlikely to have at least a few of those levels under sea level. So it's entirely possible to have one's upstairs be above water, and one's downstairs be below the water! Imagine having to take a swim to get a midnight snack. Of course, the Erol'a don't find that strange at all. Likewise, it's perfectly normal to them to walk down the hallways of their homes in ankle, knee or waist-deep water, something that the Foreigners and even some kedan might take some getting used to. The water temperature during the day is a delightful 80℉/26℃, and about ten degrees cooler throughout the night, so it's pleasant for nearly everyone.

Please direct questions to the OOC post! You can either use the areas described under header, or create your own -- don't feel you have to be limited to threading only in the locations mentioned in the starters! Just don't forget to label your top-levels with specific locations (eg the Height or the Deep).

ACTIVITY CHECK NOTE: Due to the late-month timing of this landfall, threads from this log can be counted toward either June or July AC. Just don't use the same comment thread for both and you'll be fine!

"Well, I'm sure we can fix that here in a moment. Whenever Skulduggery deigns to find us more fascinating than seashells." He's still teasing. For all that Skulduggery has tried to distance himself from the conversation, there's only so much privacy a five foot length of chain will allow them.

Ravel notices the shift in her expression, the look of concern, but he doesn't know what to attribute it to. The sling on his left arm? The chain on the right? The dark circles under his eyes, which have only gotten worse now that he's been shackled to Skulduggery for weeks?

He smiles for her anyway, although there's a touch of wariness to it now. "That it was. Erskine Ravel." He takes the proffered hand with his right, the shackled hand, and lifts it to his lips. Beautiful ladies with wings certainly deserve a kiss on the hand, not just an inelegant shake, and he'll defy Skulduggery to claim otherwise if the skeleton bothers to kick up a fuss about it.

"Dove, if I remember correctly?"

She glanced at Skul again, her smile still bright; she'd look forward to that, as soon as she and Erskine were a little more familiar, now that she could speak to him in person.

The determined smile deters her from asking too many questions, and instead, she simply allows him to take her hand and lift it to his lips-- she's used to it, but the gesture never, ever stops charming her.

"Yes, Dove," she confirms, looking up at him from under long eyelashes. "It's even more of a pleasure to see you offscreen." Don't mind her-- he's pretty, and she's intrigued for far too many reasons. "Are you... enjoying our vacation from the Turtle?" she asks, motioning up toward the city with a tone that suggests she is anything but awed by the adventure. Maybe his exhaustion was due in part to the terrible environment.
edgeoftheknife: Just say that last part again. No, before that. The whole thing. Say the whole thing over again. (I completely understand.)

Her reaction is certainly encouraging; some of the wariness bleeds back out of his smile, and now it's very near to a grin again. Whatever he'd thought he'd seen in her in her expression... maybe he'd been imagining it. Paranoia. It wouldn't be the first time.

"Likewise. The network hardly does you justice."

At the question about "vacation" he gives a short laugh and makes a show of looking around them. "What little I've been able to enjoy it, you mean? Anton couldn't have chosen a more inopportune time for this-" He releases her hand and holds his own up, rattling the manacle and chain for emphasis. Lowering the arm again, he shrugs his good right shoulder. "We're keeping busy, and it beats cleaning the Hotel. It's nice to be able to use water magic for something other than washing windows for a change."

"It sounds as if you're not enjoying the change of scenery?"

Ah, his flattery is oh so welcome. She would be positively beaming, had she not turned her attention back to their time in the city and her curiosity onto the tiny details about the man before her. Weary countenance, shackled to a skeleton, working at the hotel, water magic... interesting.

Her pointed look of confusion at the chain should be obvious enough. She'll definitely be asking about it...among other things. She'll be answering him first.

"Apparently I'm too old for my own good," she sighs, shaking her head. "It's beautiful, but I'm a little weary of being forced to wear seafood by the local children..."

"Ah, yes. I... can't say I'm much of a fan of that part either," he said, shaking his head. "Although being chained together has earned us something of a reprieve, just by virtue of being an oddity. It's difficult to boss someone around when you're staring with your jaw on the floor."

And then there was the part about telling these Erol'a their actual ages. Four hundred tended to earn them more slack-jawed stares than orders. All in all, it hadn't been too bad for them so far.

At Dove's obvious confusion about the chain, Ravel lifted his shackled hand and rubbed gingerly at the wrist underneath. With the hand attached to the arm in the sling. "A gift from Anton," he said mildly, with a smile. "A punishment, actually. I'm surprised you missed it on the network. He has a dramatic lack of subtlety when it suits him."
