(Backdated) He followed me home!
Characters: Dr. Light, Robert Callaghan, residents of Science House
Date: Backdated to 6/27, after this thread
Location: Sky District, Callaghan's house.
Situation: Callaghan brings Tom home to stay. It's like bringing a puppy home except Callaghan is the puppy.
Warnings/Rating: Old men who need to make out but haven't yet.
---
The Sky District was somewhere he hadn't been before; Evidently it was new, a new venture for residents and business alike to populate and invigorate. Thomas wasn't entirely sure an old fogey like him was quite the 'new life' that the Sky District needed, but if Robert was offering -- and if he truly wasn't imposing -- Thomas would be delighted to stay with him.
So he followed his... friend home, chatting casually all the way. There was something so easy about being with Robert, like they'd known each other all their lives. Like they could be like this for the rest of their lives. It had been a long, long time since Thomas had felt so comfortable with... well, with anyone (that he hadn't built himself.)
He wondered if -- he hoped that -- Robert felt the same way.

So when he emerges from his room, engrossed in popping an arm off Megabot to get at some frayed wiring inside one of the smaller moving parts, he doesn't immediately realize anyone else is here. It's only when he looks up that he realizes there's a perfect stranger in the living room, some old man, and not Callaghan either because this one has a beard.
He freezes on the spot, like a deer caught in headlights, and stares. No words, no greeting, nothing so smooth or graceful. Just. Staring.]

instead, his smile only brightens a bit]
Ah- Hiro! Did you meet Doctor Light, back during the festival?
[in all truth, this is probably the most animated Hiro's ever seen the professor.]
no subject
[ Tom smiles warmly, stepping toward the boy and offering a hand
]
It's a pleasure to meet you, Hiro. Robert's told me about you. You sound like a very bright young man.
no subject
Uh, hey. [Hiro blanks, and it's the only greeting that manages to come out. A moment's hesitation, and then he reaches out to take the offered hand in a cautious, barely-there ghost of a grip.] He told you about me? That's...cool.
[What is going on
No for real, turning the wide-eyed confusion on Robert now, as if to ask who is this and why is he here and what is with that look on your face]
no subject
[clearly Hiro should be excited as well because a hundred thousand reasons? yes?]
no subject
[ Tom shakes the offered, hand, noticing the hesitant grip. At Robert's comment he scoffs, releasing Hiro's hand and gives a dismissive wave toward Robert. ]
He's embellishing. Those advancements were a team effort, I assure you. Science progresses much faster when great minds work together.
no subject
If for a moment he looks vaguely uncomfortable at that assertion, and breaks eye contact to glance off somewhere else, it's only because he's not sure that's true.]
Oh. Well, I guess so...
[He still doesn't understand, and caught up in the warm fuzzy whirlwind that is Callaghan and Light ping-ponging compliments back and forth at each other, he's feeling...mostly confused...and...
Ding.
Oh, gross. They're doing that fawning thing the engaged couples who come into the Lucky Cat to order wedding cakes do. He's not even sure they realize they're doing it. This is so weird.
Casually interrupting before this turns into a singularity of fuzzy compliments.]
What were you working on, exactly? I had no idea you had a project going during the festival.
no subject
well
er]
We were mostly bouncing conceps back and forth. If I had the materials, I'd probably still be following through, but his experience with AI is fascinating.
no subject
Why, if you and I -- if we all just worked together -- passed on what we know to fresh, creative minds --
[ Creative minds who didn't want to wage war on the human race! ]
-- can you just imagine what we could accomplish? My work in AI is extensive, but I'm sure there are applications I've never dreamed of just waiting to be explored!

[He regrets it almost as soon as he says it, shutting his mouth and looking sheepish; Baymax isn't nearly so advanced. On the other hand, if anybody could do it...Tadashi could have, someday. With time.
That'd be something to talk to Tadashi about, though.]
I mean, it'd be cool, but it'd be hard to do here without better computers and stuff. Or anywhere, really.
no subject
I think the market's already been cornered in that regard. But if we could get a setup even remotely like what Starktech has...
no subject
no subject
I...kinda know a couple people at Stark Industries that might be willing to get us some of the old junk they can't use anymore. We could probably do something with that.

She's a bit surprised to see another older man in the house with Callaghan. Even more surprised to see Callaghan smiling as bright as he is. Really, with the intensity of his smile, they could easily power a few city blocks. That alone is odd.
The other man seems quite friendly on first glance, which is good. Aunt Cass wouldn't let someone that didn't seem friendly into the house. Not with her nephews living here.
Even if it's really Robert's, there's only so many things he has complete say on.She smiles at the two of them.]
Hello! Did you bring home a friend, Robert? Is he staying for dinner?
[Someone's losing their second helping. Probably Hiro.]
no subject
If you'll have him, Cass- this is Thomas. Thomas, Cass.
no subject
[ He's clearly a bit nervous, and a bit ashamed as well -- he's not used to being such a bother to others. Back home he could have more than afforded an apartment or a home of his own. ]
-- Of course, if it's too much trouble, I wouldn't want to impose.
no subject
[She's a bit surprised by the offer for a place to stay--and it's evident in how she blinks at them both. But Robert seems happy, and Thomas seems like a nice enough man that she can't just throw him out onto the street. After all, Robert had let her and the boys stay with him. What is one more roommate?
So she smiles.]
I don't mind! Robert did the same for me and my nephews. This is, after all, his home.
[She might be slightly uncomfortable about another person suddenly being at the house, but she can worry about that later. Thomas seems nice enough, and she'll know if he really is by the time dinner is over. If there's an issue, she can take it up with Robert then. No use making an unnecessary scene.
But quickly, she gets to business:]
Do you have any food allergies I should be aware of? ... Although I suppose with the food being different here, it might not matter.
no subject
Did you need any help with it, by the way?
no subject
Thank you, I'm glad. I'll certainly try to stay out of the way and help where I can. No allergies that I know of -- I hope not, at least!
no subject
[She smiles to Thomas in particular.]
And I'm sure you won't be in the way.
no subject
than he already is, he might make a reference on how Thomas seems like he'd be good at that.]Well then, I'll make sure of it by showing him around a bit more. Though- what did you say we were having tonight?
no subject
[ He looks to Robert. ]
I would like to see more of the house, as well.
no subject
[It's joking, really, but really it's getting crowded. Still, they'd make it work.]
What kind of food does she normally cook?
SORRY MINDY I LOVE U JUST GOTTA BOOMERANG RRL QUICK
AND WHAT BETTER SUBJECT THAN ROLL AND FOOD??
My boys would suffer a similar fate if I weren't around!
[Sorry Robert, she's joking. Mostly.]
There's nothing better than a cre-a-tive cook that knows what they're doing!
YES YES AND YES
GO GO AND GO
My nephews could use some more friends. How old are your children?
aaaand the bomb drops?
Is the bomb blue. Why yes. It is.
... Built?
Re: Is the bomb blue. Why yes. It is.
...robots.
I often forget it's not something people are used to, but they're my family and I love them dearly.
no subject
Family is family! You just made them from scratch instead of letting nature do the work.
no subject
If everyone here thinks the way you do, then they really would like it here.
no subject
Oh, well. Everyone will just have to content themselves with a lack of dirty laundry, because oh look, here comes Tadashi with a basket of clean things. Mostly Hiro's laundry with a little of his own thrown in, because someone has to make sure the youngest member of the house doesn't wear the same pants for a week straight.
So with chores on his mind as he moves through the house, he doesn't realize there's a stranger about until he looks up to greet Callaghan and finds an extra older gentleman looking back.]
Oh... hello.
[Have a smile friends. Anyone care to start introductions?]
sorry for late /)n(\
You must be Tadashi! I'm delighted to meet you -- my name is Thomas Light. Robert here has told me so much about you!
no worries~
He shifts the basket to one hip so he can hold it with one arm, reaching out with the other to offer Thomas a solid handshake.]
Good things, I hope. [Said teasingly, of course.] It's nice to meet you, sir.
no subject
[ His tone is genuine and reassuring, and he grasps Tadsahi's hand firmly with a smile. ]
You sound like a bright young man. He's told me about your project back home -- the nurse bot? It's incredible how robotics can be utilized to make the world a better place, step by step.
no subject
He nods.] Thank you very much. That's always been my goal with Baymax.
[You know, before he suddenly woke up on a turtle and stuff.]
no subject
Do you have any notes here? Or anything new you're working on? A bright mind like yours must be bursting with ideas.
