August Catch All

Characters: Seto Kaiba and YOU
Date: All of August
Location: Places of varying nature.
Situation: Once Kaiba realizes he's stuck here, he tries to deal with it. Aka Kaiba harasses all the NPCs ever.
Warnings/Rating: Insults pending.

It took a few days, and while he didn't admit to it, Kaiba was smart enough to realize he was stuck here. Whether it was real or not. And unfortunately, the testing of his Duel Disk lead him to realize that things were, indeed, real. Or at least more real than any virtual world he's ever created. After all, people don't usually get hungry when their mind is separated from their body, Joey Wheeler aside. While he had gotten the month's ration of Juulan from the welcome center, grudgingly, Kaiba knew that he had to feed himself and that meant making money. And that meant finding a job. Which also meant he was at the mercy of employers. He hated being in that sort of position. However, he had started from the bottom and worked his way up before. He could very well do it again.

Seto could be found wandering around the city, studying it. His favorite haunt being the Metal Sector as it was obviously more up his alley. He inspected buildings, asked questions of the Kedan, and gathered information. He was less inclined to seek help or speak to other Foreigners, considering the lovely welcome he'd received. Besides, he could do things on his own.

He also had to find himself a place to stay, which lead to him finding that abandoned place where some palace gardens supposedly use to be. It was empty, nobody was using it, and it was actually decent. So he took it upon himself to settle there. It was also reasonably secluded from other Foreigners and Kedan alike, and Kaiba did like his privacy.

Wherever he goes, Kaiba takes his Duel Disk and card deck with him. He quickly discovered the fascination some Kedan had for Foreigner technology, and wasn't about to risk it getting stolen.

The kind she picked herself, obviously. For all that his words were caustic, she really didn't seem particularly concerned; it would take someone who knew her better to pick distaste out of her bland smile.

"Goodness, no," she said, still light. "Is that a common problem for you? No, I have much better things to do with my time. I like to know who's here, that's all. By all means, continue to blunder about the city in peace. I wish you luck."

Arrogant, she thought, and proud, and all kinds of other things that she herself was as well, only more annoying and more mortal. He'd find his way, or it would get him killed, and China didn't particularly care which for now. She tilted her head to one side, and was quiet.

China had, admittedly, been half-expecting the temperamental young man to simply turn on his heel and storm off. His pause earned him an arched eyebrow, a fractionally tilted head. "I rather think that's for me to say, don't you?" she said at length. How odd, that someone so self-assured should very nearly self-deprecate in the next breath-- unless, of course, it was in turn also a tactic.

Now what switch had that been, that flipped...? Quite a change in attitude. China tapped her index finger to her lips, making more of a show of thinking than was strictly necessary. "I do believe it was," she said in a moment. "But then, my time is worth less than it was."

Considerably so, regrettably, owing to her change in circumstances. But she'd still learned something, today, and was continuing to even now. Worth the trouble of diverting her original path, certainly.

The thanks was implied. China generally took it for granted that her presence was appreciated, except in certain, very specific company.

But she smiled at him, and this time it was a slower, more considering thing. "An equitable exchange," she agreed, and made no move to follow him, only watched him go.

He might be worth watching.
