[OPEN] Didn't I see this movie?
Characters: Erskine, Bakura, and OPEN
Date: August 10, 2016
Location: Central Sector
Situation: Erskine has been failing to deal with some Bad Things from his past and now it's catching up to him. He's having a bit of a nervous breakdown and, as an Elemental sorcerer, is going to be setting fire to a building in the city as a result. Tag-ins welcome from anyone! Come help put the fire out before someone gets hurt. Come shuffle the kedan away from the burning building. Come yell at this idiot?
Warnings/Rating: Bad headspace. Possible violence. Arson. Vague spoilers for the SP series through the end of book 8; will try to keep specific spoilers to a minimum unless noted otherwise. Please let me know if you're okay with spoilers or not and I can adjust as necessary ♥
He'd asked for help.
That thought echoed small and almost forgotten in the back of Erskine's mind. He'd asked for help. It shouldn't have come to this. Maybe he'd been too late, or maybe he'd been past the point of saving.
The evening was hot--too hot. Everything was hot and dry and the fire spread too quickly, jumping from the awnings of an outdoor cafe to the quaint little building behind it. Fire bloomed a brilliant orange against the skyline, against the deep blue of the sky. Kedan screamed, scrambled to get away, to get their loved ones away. Screamed at him, though from a safe distance.
Who wanted to get too close to the man with fire in his hands and rage in his eyes?
((ooc: Please note that for the sake of continuity/planning/etc, Bakura is going to be the one to take Erskine out of the area, andno one is going to die no kedan are going to die. Otherwise feel free to interact as you see fit, even if it's not with Erskine! Fight fires. Be heroes, do cool stuff. Yell at Erskine. It's all good.))

As soon as he felt the movement toward him, saw the flash of wings, Erskine threw his arms up in front of him and molded the air in front of him into a shield. The only outward sign of this was a slight shimmer to the air, but upon impact it would almost completely stop Dove's forward movement--almost, but not quite. Erskine felt his shoes slide backward across paving stones but couldn't spare more than a fraction of his focus on it, lest the shield collapse.
no subject
What the hell is going on here?
"HEY!" he shouts at them, not entirely sure what's what but... is that guy responsible for all of this? He's got fire in his hands after all. But Dove has that ability too. He wouldn't think she'd do this... but then he didn't think Erskine would either. He's... really confused right now.
no subject
And now she'd have his attention, despite the now incredible ache throughout her body as it doubled to heal her.
Rising quickly, she stomped into the ground, redirecting white hot flame in his direction with the hopes to maybe catch him off guard and encircle him and his shield. She didn't want to hurt him... but she wouldn't let him continue doing... whatever this was. Maybe the Light in her fire would help subdue him.
The shout nearby, pulled her focus just seconds before the increasingly familiar sensation tugged at her soul. Yuri
no subject
Dismissing the shield was as easy as giving up his focus on it, letting the dense cushion of air in front of him dissipate. Instead Erskine turned his attention to the fire. He held both hands up, palms toward the flames, and suddenly any of the fire that came anywhere near him was immediately extinguished.
Like Dove, the shout drew Erskine's attention, splitting his focus enough that although none of the flames yet reached him, they drew closer. He snarled. If Yuri joined Dove against him...
Erskine ducked his shoulders and charged Dove. Before he got too close, however, he splayed his fingers and made a quick pushing gesture at the paving stones beneath him. He leapt, and that extra blast of air jolted him higher, making it so that if left unmolested he would easily vault over Dove.
no subject
Dove was a big girl though and could take care of herself. Still, he was there to give her a hand, ready to intercept Erskine should it become necessary.
no subject
She'd just have to be extra careful now not to burn Yuri in the process.
She kept her eyes on Erskine until the sudden movement of the swordsman brandishing his blade drew her attention for the split second. "Yuri, don't hurt--!" And then the lunatic was hurting toward her. She braced for impact with her fire, blinking in surprise as he leapt into the air overhead. "Erskine, stop this!"
Well fine then. She'd just follow him up into the air with the billowing of her great wings.
no subject
Maybe that was foolish, hoping a woman with wings wouldn't pursue him into the air, or maybe he'd just misread the situation. He was dealing with a lot of unknowns and wasn't particularly in a great state of mind.
That said, the soldier's instincts honed for two hundred years in the fight against Mevolent never really turned off, even at his worst. Erskine twisted in midair, slowing his own arc of descent just enough to get a clear shot at Dove, and thrust both hands toward her, palms out. The hands would come nowhere near her.
The blast of air conjured by those hands? That was well on track to smack right into her. Hopefully it would give him enough time to hit the ground and melt into the woodwork.
no subject
Yuri waited for a clear shot, which came after Erskine launched another blast of air at Dove. Then...
"Azure Edge!"
With a swing of his sword, an arc of blue energy was hurled at the man. His weakest arte. No, he didn't really want to hurt Erskine, not yet anyway. Consider it a warning strike.
no subject
She braced herself, the adrenaline slowing her recovery, and watched Yuri's attack with obvious surprise. She hadn't known he could do that.

And then he was turning and running, close enough to the fire to try to use the chaos and confusion as a shield. Those of the kedan with enough clarity recognized him as the firestarter and fled from his approach, but others were so disoriented or shocked that they held their place.
A somewhat haphazard shield, admittedly.
no subject
He's prepared for retaliation, but it doesn't come as the man decides to flee instead. But instead of pursuing, Yuri just watches him go. It's better that way if he just runs. People need help, and there's no sense in going after him right now.
Dove goes avatar state
Her attention went to the people still trapped in the flames, however, and she stopped, trying to shut out all the emotional chaos pounding her head. Hoping Yuri was still far back enough, she thrust her fist into the air, her own flame flaring brightly. "Era!"
The phoenix dove quickly, obediently waiting for her command. "Find Erskine. You remember him. Just follow him, and don't let him hurt anyone." Command given, the bird lifted and disappeared after the man.
ooc: Spoilers: It won't find himThat done, she turned to check on the status of those closest to her, and leaped into the air once more, her wings and arms wide, her palms down over the flames, and her eyes glowing brightly in the night. The fire that had surrounded them--as much of it as her Light could hold-- rushed into the air, twirling and dancing viciously around her as it gathered to her will. With a clench of her fists, it would burst dying out quickly as it dispersed harmlessly in the air overhead...unless someone intervened.
no subject
There were probably some people that still needed their help, but he first walked close to where Dove was. Just to make sure that she was alright.

"I think that's my line."
no subject
"I'll be okay," she assured him, standing to her full height and pulling in a deep breath to center herself. Her wings moved fitfully, though tiredly. "Haven't done that in a while..." There were others to attend to, and they needed to move before her adrenaline gave out.
Era would come back through the flames, a large tiger, carrying two small kedan. The sight only bolstered the urgency for them to help the Kedan. Dove's eyes went from Yuri to Era, then to the flames, as she visibly fluxed between the two options: stay and help the kedan, or follow Erskine.
no subject
Yuri could see the conflict and indecision in her eyes though, glancing at the tiger who... he guessed to be Era.
"Don't worry about him. The Kedan need our help more than he does, and I'm pretty sure someone else will handle him." It's not like Erskine didn't have powerful friends here.
no subject
Turning, she looked for Kedan in the fire. "Do you want to go in with me, or should I bring them out to you?" she asked, taking a few steps toward the roaring flames. The smoke was starting to get thick... if anyone was in there, they'd be struggling against more than just heat... It was the smoke that would consume them.
no subject
It was getting pretty bad wasn't it? The flames had grown since the little distraction with Dove and Erskine. But hearing a scream from inside one of the buildings, Yuri didn't even stop to answer Dove's question and instead ran towards the burning building.
no subject
"Yuri!" She reached out to him, but it was too late-- he had dived into the flames without her. Reckless idiot! She was perfectly useful, and he had just--!
The scream had pierced her, too, though, and she followed almost immediately after, sweeping flame away with her as she followed and doing her best to clear his path as she ran behind him. She didn't have the energy to take it all out again... A little at a time, then, she decided.
"Where are they?!" she shouted after him, hoping his instinct would get them out quickly.
no subject
If she got closer, she might hear some whimpering and coughing.
Then Yuri would suddenly emerge from the smoke, carrying a teenage girl in his arms.
no subject
She did indeed hear the whimpering, and moved closer, determined to clear the thick black smog from the area until she saw Yuri emerge with the girl. Relief flooded her, but she held tight, still working hard. She could at least guide them toward a way out... but something had to be done about the building...
Once they were out, she stopped, casting Yuri an almost desperate look from the smoldering doorframe. "Was she the only one?"
no subject
Once they were out, he put the girl down and placed a hand on her back. The girl obviously suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
"Yeah," he told Dove and then stood. She would probably notice that there were also burns on Yuri's hands and arms. He had kinda moved some burning debris to get the girl out. That having been the crash she heard. But he acted like they weren't even there.
no subject
Immediately, she was at the girl's side, kneeling, her hands aglow and tending to the wounds. The smoke in her lungs wasn't something she could handle well, but she could at least give her a little energy and take care of the seared flesh. Once she was sure the young woman would be okay and that the teen understood she was, the angel stood again, slightly unsteady on her feet, and turned to Yuri. Taking both of his arms in her hands without warning, just below the elbow, she looked him in the eye and sent a pulse of energy into him, taking the heat from his flesh and healing the wounds as she spoke. "Catch me."
And then she was in the air again, her eyes pulsing that bight golden glow again, and the fire racing upward and away from the building, this time much faster, and only barely within her control. Era watched soundlessly, sure to stand between the flames and his master's charges as the heat rose.
When the fire burst, the glow faded from the angel as it had previously, but this time, instead of lightly descending, Dove fell, pushed to her limit.
The building creaked nearby, the remaining flames small and dying.
no subject
"Huh?"
But then she was in the air, so Yuri watched Dove carefully as she again redirected the flames and caused them to dissipate in the air. But what alarmed him was when she suddenly fell.
Yuri didn't hesitate and dashed to where she plummeting, his arms out stretched just in time to catch her.
"You okay? That was amazing."
