There was that nagging doubt in the back of Klaus's mind, that sheer instinct that made him nearly shudder at the thought of a possible vampire. He suppressed it however, reminding himself that it was very unlikely Valdis was one.

"It is a fascinating period of history," he remarked, nodding. Outwardly he didn't seem too fazed, at least. There were other sorts of immortals here, after all. There were other sorts of immortals in Jerusalem's Lot as well. He could keep his cool like a goddamn adult.

"I confess I'm envious - to have seen first hand all the changes that came about in that era... it must have been an experience."

"I apologize," Klaus said quietly, wheeling them between the other dancers. Years of fighting left him hyper aware of his surroundings, and twice he'd steered them away from the blunder of another pair, or several over-enthusiastic children taking a shortcut to the buffet.

"It's nothing you've done- my time away from Jerusalem's Lot has left me jumping at shadows."

It was an answer and it was the truth. Klaus didn't seem keen on elaborating - whether it was because he didn't want Valdis to worry or simply because he didn't want to touch on such an issue at so lovely an event... well. It was a bit of both.
